209 Getting Angry
I was racking my brains to get Pei Shi Yu away when Fei Fei began to size her up from head to toe.
Following her gaze, I also looked at Pei Shi Yu. Actually, she was dressed very feminine and casual today, and her style was somewhat similar to Xiao Rou's. I guessed Fei Fei probably took her for a woman from a nightclub.
"Brother Lin, what do you mean by this? You can't treat me like this just because you have a new love. At least we..."
I immediately interrupted Fei Fei: "What are you talking about? This is my girlfriend..."
"Of course I know she's your girlfriend, I'm not blind. I'm saying you're too heartless. It's not like we wouldn't pay rent for the house. Why did she reject us outright? If you don't want to rent it out, then write it clearly, don't waste our time."
I remembered that Fei Fei used to be a very innocent girl. She was not even twenty when I met her. After more than four years, she had completely changed from how I remembered her. She was mature and shrewd, and she spoke with a touch of sarcasm.
"The house belongs to my girlfriend." I just wanted to get rid of them quickly, so I used Pei Shi Yu's name to refuse.
"Whose it is doesn't matter. The important thing is that you don't want to rent it to us."
At this time, Pei Shi Yu, who had been silent all along, suddenly said, "You have the right to choose a house to rent or not, and so do we. Is there a problem with that?"
I tugged at Pei Shi Yu's hand and said softly, "Say less, I'll handle it."
"Handle what? Did you sign a rental contract? Don't you think you're being ridiculous?"
Pei Shi Yu suddenly turned her attention to me, her eyes fixed on me, as if I was incompetent, and with a nonchalant attitude.
Just as I was about to speak, she suddenly turned and left, quickly stopping a passing taxi. I took a few steps to catch up and pulled open the door, but Pei Shi Yu said faintly, "Get lost."
Looking at her expression, I didn't dare say anything more, because her face showed a feeling of contempt for me. I felt that even an explanation would be superfluous.
Before letting go, I said somewhat weakly, "Things aren't what you think. Listen to my explanation."
"Driver, let's go," Pei Shi Yu urged the driver directly.
The car sped away. I went directly to Fei Fei and said, "You shouldn't have said those things just now. She's my girlfriend."
"What did I say?"
"Don't talk to her with such a presumptuous attitude. Wasn't the misunderstanding unnecessary?"
"Isn't she just a little prettier than me? Didn't you see her attitude towards us?"
"Why are you comparing her to yourself? The house is hers. If she says she doesn't want to rent it, shouldn't you just give up? What's the point of saying so much?"
"Didn't you used to say you liked me too?"
Looking at her, I felt a little unreasonable. I couldn't say anything too harsh from my point of view, after all, we did have something going on...
"Can you take words said when drunk seriously? Besides, how long has it been since we last met? Why bring up the past?"
"Forget it, let's go look elsewhere." Xiao Rou immediately stopped our conversation.
"I just can't swallow this. Why does she have to act so high and mighty?" She said with a justified tone.
"Because she's my girlfriend. Now she's misunderstood, and I'm going to be annoyed. Hurry up and leave." I said in a relatively gentle tone.
Before leaving, Fei Fei looked at my car parked on the side of the road, and reluctantly left under Xiao Rou's urging.
I breathed a sigh of relief, feeling really inexplicable. Even if we knew each other before, so what? So many years have passed, why bring it up again, as if afraid that others wouldn't know how rotten my life used to be.
I got back into the car and started dialing Pei Shi Yu's number. It rang a few times before she answered with a faint "Hello."
"Where did you go?" I asked directly.
"Is it any of your business?"
"What do you think?" I asked back.
Pei Shi Yu didn't say anything more, and the phone immediately transmitted the sound of "beep...beep..."
I continued to sit in the car for a while, and before leaving, I sent Pei Shi Yu a message on WeChat: "She works in a nightclub. Do you think it's necessary to take it seriously?"
She replied just as quickly, but the words were very harsh: "Stop trying to disgust me."
I didn't reply again, because Pei Shi Yu's words carried a strong sense of rejection, and it didn't sound like a couple arguing, but rather as if my explanation would lower her status.
I immediately drove back into the neighborhood. In this way, I really couldn't rent out the house. Judging from Pei Shi Yu's attitude, I definitely wouldn't be able to stay at her place tonight.
No one was right or wrong about what happened today. It was just a foreshadowing buried for my rotten past. I always thought that Pei Shi Yu knew something about my past, but her reaction today indicated that she was completely unaware. If that's the case, I feel things between us are quite uncertain, because I don't know if this counts as crossing her bottom line.
After going upstairs, I sat quietly on the sofa, looking at my phone from time to time. Pei Shi Yu didn't contact me again, not even to scold me a few words, but there was nothing.
An hour later, I called Lin Hai. As soon as he answered, I asked anxiously, "Did Pei Shi Yu go to see you?"
"I was just about to call you. I've been waiting at the agreed location for half an hour. Aren't you coming yet?"
"Did you call her?" I asked anxiously.
"I just called before you called, but she didn't answer," Lin Hai explained.
Then I just said "Oh."
Lin Hai continued to ask, "Aren't you together?"
"We're not together. Wait and see, if you still can't get through, go back first."
"What's going on with you two!" Lin Hai replied somewhat angrily.
"Maybe she was delayed by something today."
"Okay, then I'll go back first."
I began to feel that Pei Shi Yu was deliberately not answering, the purpose being to not get involved with me. This was my current thought, and I also felt that things had become more serious than I had imagined. I couldn't sit still any longer, and immediately got up and walked downstairs.
I got into the car and drove straight to Zhijiang Road. I felt that things should be explained clearly. Even if Pei Shi Yu didn't want to listen, I had the right to know what she was thinking. No matter what I was like in the past, that could only represent my past self.
On the way back, I drove very fast, as if someone was urging me on, so I arrived at Pei Shi Yu's place in the shortest possible time, but the door was tightly closed. Her car was still parked in its original position, but even so, I couldn't guess whether she had returned home.
I quickly got out of the car, walked directly to the door, took out the key and turned it a few times, but it wouldn't open. The door seemed to be locked from the inside, so it was obvious that Pei Shi Yu was at home. I looked inside, but didn't see her downstairs.
