"My... Old Master... This..."
Steward Wu also looked troubled, not knowing what to do for a moment, and stood there in a daze, not daring to move. He could only silently await Old Master Ling's next command, not daring to even breathe, and the atmosphere instantly dropped to freezing point.
"If I have to rely on you, these brainless fools, I'll never see my great-grandsons in this lifetime!" Seeing the few people standing before him, he became even more enraged. They couldn't even handle such a simple matter, wasting food every day. Old Master Ling snorted coldly and said impatiently, "Stop standing there like idiots. Go do what you should be doing. You'll go again tomorrow, and every day after that, until you bring them back. Starting today, assign someone to guard the entrance. I don't believe this door will remain closed forever; there must be a time when it opens." He would simply wait by the stump for a rabbit, not believing he wouldn't see his great-grandsons in a lifetime. If he didn't see them today, he'd wait two days; if not two, then three. He was determined to remain at an impasse with Feng Jin. If he couldn't even outwit that little girl Feng Jin, then he had truly eaten his meals in vain all these years.
"Then... Old Master, I'll go order some people to guard the young madam's courtyard?" Steward Wu cautiously inquired of Old Master Ling's intentions. Without the Old Master's command, he really didn't dare to act on his own. After all, the young madam was not someone to be trifled with, and he didn't want to offend her. Being caught in the middle, he found it quite difficult.
"Nonsense. Do you still need me to teach you something so simple? Hurry up and send people to guard the place. As soon as the door opens, you go in and wait them out. I'll bring people in shortly. I don't believe Feng Jin will dare to defy me to my face." He had already devised a plan. Even if he had to sacrifice his reputation, he was determined to bring his dear grandson back.
"Yes, Old Master. This old servant will go now. I'll handle it perfectly." Steward Wu responded repeatedly and glanced at the few people still standing around, not knowing any better. He quickly waved them over, "You few short-sighted ones, why are you still lingering here? Hurry up and go." Truly some raw eggs, unable to grasp such simple matters. It was truly exhausting to talk to them. Scolded, the few people instantly reacted, responding with a chorus of "yes" and then scurrying out behind Steward Wu. Old Master Ling snorted, stroking his slightly graying beard. Truly pig brains, unable to handle even such a small matter. How were these people assigned to him? They were an eyesore. He paced a couple of times in the room. Yesterday was full of laughter and joy; today, he was left all alone, so desolate. A wave of sadness instantly washed over him. Steward Wu sighed slightly and sat on the recliner, closing his eyes to rest.
"Great-Grandpa..."
"Great-Grandpa..."
Faintly, he seemed to hear Da Bao and Er Bao's voices. Old Master Ling's eyes welled up, and he almost shed tears. The sound quieted again, and he thought he had misheard. It seemed he missed the two children too much, and now he was hallucinating. With a helpless sigh, he was about to lie down again when he heard Da Bao and Er Bao's voices again.
"Great-Grandpa..."
"Great-Grandpa..."
...After several calls, he finally confirmed that what he heard was not a hallucination. Overjoyed, he held onto the armrest of the recliner and, with slightly unsteady steps, stood up. He hurried outside. After taking a few steps, he saw Ling Mo Han walking in, carrying the two children, one in each arm. Upon seeing Da Bao and Er Bao, Old Master Ling excitedly ran towards them, completely ignoring Ling Mo Han in front of him. He quickly reached out and took the two children, holding them affectionately in his arms as if he had found a treasure.
"My good grandsons, did you miss Great-Grandpa?"
"Missed you..."
"Great-Grandpa, I miss you..." Da Bao and Er Bao hugged Old Master Ling's face, kissing him on each side, their words expressing nothing but their longing for Old Master Ling. In just a few words, Old Master Ling was so moved that he wept, his eyes stinging, and a crystal-clear tear rolled down from his eye.
"My little precious grandsons, Great-Grandpa misses you too. I can't even eat when I don't see you..." In less than a day, it felt like three autumns. Old Master Ling held the two children, unable to put them down. He even held them while eating. Even if Ling Mo Han wanted to say a few words, he had no chance to interject. In the past, his grandfather's eyes were only on him. Now, with these two little ones, everyone else would probably have to step aside.
"Great-Grandpa... want... horse... horse..." Da Bao's expression was not yet clear, but he gestured animatedly, trying hard to express his need. Fortunately, Old Master Ling immediately understood Da Bao's meaning and readily agreed, "Da Bao wants to ride a horse? Good, Grandpa will let you ride a horse right away." Ling Mo Han watched the conversation between his grandfather and grandsons, completely bewildered. Wasn't he just asking for fish a moment ago? Now he wanted a horse. What was this horse, and where did it come from? Unbeknownst to him, in just a moment, he would thoroughly understand what Da Bao meant by 'horse'. He also realized how crazy his grandfather was playing with these two children and why Feng Jin was so insistent on not letting his grandfather take the children away.
Old Master Ling looked around. There was indeed no one nearby. However, having been a horse for the children for the past two days, his old back could not really take it, and his waist was still a bit sore. Letting these two little ones ride him again would truly be unbearable. His gaze swept around and finally settled on Ling Mo Han, pointing directly at him, "Come here." Ling Mo Han, whose name was called, was slightly startled but still walked over as Old Master Ling wished, "Grandpa, do you need me for something?"
"Crouch on the ground and be a horse, let Da Bao and Er Bao ride on your back." Ling Mo Han was stunned on the spot as if struck by lightning. After a moment, he managed to recover his senses with great difficulty, his gaze dull as he looked at Old Master Ling, and asked again in disbelief, "Grandpa, you said... me..."
"Hurry up and crouch on the ground. Must I repeat myself? Hurry up!" Old Master Ling said angrily and kicked Ling Mo Han, urging him on.
