Chapter 396 Lin Yuwei Visits

"Now that I have this evidence in hand, Chu Yanxi would never dare to accuse me before His Majesty. I was actually worried he wouldn't come; if he did, it would save me a lot of trouble."

With this evidence, he was confident he could ruin Chu Yanxi's reputation if he dared to accuse him before His Majesty.

However, whether Chu Yanxi would dare to do so was still uncertain.

"You've truly come prepared. But what do you plan to do with the people in the manor?"

"Li Kun's actions have all been submitted to the Ministry of Justice. Soon, people from the Ministry will come to confiscate the property and seize the wealth. As for the fate of everyone in the Li manor, someone else will naturally handle it."

He only needed to bring Feng Jin back safely; the rest was not his concern.

Seeing that Ling Mohan had made all the arrangements, she felt relieved and returned with him with peace of mind.

Inside the carriage, Feng Jin occasionally looked outside. Coincidentally, she saw the embroidered building they had encountered on their way. The red silk was still fluttering in the wind, but it was already deserted, a stark contrast to its previous liveliness.

Feng Jin couldn't help but sigh. In just a few hours, circumstances had changed, and people had become strangers.

"What's wrong?" Ling Mohan noticed a hint of melancholy in Feng Jin's eyes and asked.

"It's nothing. I just feel that things change too quickly. In just a few hours, the once bustling embroidered building is now deserted. What should have been a joyous occasion has turned into a mourning one."

"However, what that master said was not wrong. The Li family, young and old, faced a tragic end, and it came true so quickly. It's just that the master couldn't foresee his own death alongside the Li family. If only people could predict their own futures, how wonderful that would be."

Feng Jin sighed. It was a pity that even the most powerful individuals in the world, who could accurately predict others' fates, could not foresee their own. How ironic.

"If everyone could predict their own fate, wouldn't it be chaos? Everything in this world has its karma, and it's all predetermined. All pleasures and misfortunes are destined, and knowing these things in advance might not be a good thing."

After much thought, living a stable life was the best. Feng Jin's tone carried a sense of acceptance, just as she had never imagined she would one day travel to ancient times, nor had she ever envisioned meeting Ling Mohan.

The man with whom she would spend her life, Feng Jin leaned gently on his shoulder and exhaled deeply, her pent-up frustration vanishing.

Perhaps she came to this world to meet Ling Mohan. Thinking of this, Feng Jin tightly gripped his hand.

"No matter what the future holds, I will always be with you, holding your hand tightly and never letting go."

Ling Mohan's voice was very gentle, yet it felt as heavy as a thousand pounds on Feng Jin's heart.

It made her restless heart settle down. Feng Jin hugged the man tightly, burying her head in his chest, listening to the strong, rhythmic beat of his heart. Feng Jin felt an inexplicable sense of security.

They remained in this pose until the carriage stopped at the entrance of the Ling manor. Feng Jin reluctantly let go of Ling Mohan's hand and was helped out of the carriage by him.

As soon as she stepped off the carriage, a familiar voice called out from not far to her left.

"Sister Feng Jin... Sister Feng Jin..."

Upon hearing the voice, Feng Jin followed the source of the sound and saw Lin Yuwei leaning out of her carriage, waving her arms towards Feng Jin.

Before the carriage had even come to a complete stop, Lin Yuwei hurriedly alighted from it, pushing Ling Mohan aside and directly taking Feng Jin's arm.

"Sister Feng Jin, you're finally back! I only heard the news that you had returned when I went to Yu Yan Fang, so I rushed over immediately. Sister Feng Jin, you're something else, why didn't you send someone to inform me when you got back?"

"If I hadn't gone to Yu Yan Fang and heard from others, I wouldn't have known you were back..."

Lin Yuwei complained, unable to hide her dissatisfaction. It was simply unacceptable that she wasn't informed.

"I'm sorry, this was indeed my oversight. I've just returned to the capital, and there are many matters in the manor waiting for me to handle. Once I got busy, I forgot about it..."

"I did think about it when I first returned, but once I got busy, it all went out of my mind. Don't argue with me about these trivial matters."

Feng Jin persuaded her kindly. She knew she was in the wrong. Even if she was chided, she wouldn't say more, as she was indeed in the wrong. She would accept it for now.

"It's not that I'm criticizing you, Sister Feng Jin, but if you do this again next time, I won't talk to you anymore."

She deliberately spoke sternly because she understood Feng Jin's nature too well.

If she didn't speak firmly, such things might continue to happen.

She hoped Sister Feng Jin would take her words to heart and not dismiss them.

"I understand, I won't do it again. I also wanted to ask you, did you rush over for something?"

"I actually have something interesting to tell you. Sister, let's talk in the room."

With that, Lin Yuwei took Feng Jin's hand and walked forward, completely ignoring Ling Mohan behind them.

The man was left behind, watching the two walk ahead. A helpless smile tugged at the corner of his lips. He felt so insignificant.

He was standing right there, yet neither of them seemed to see him.

After pausing at the entrance for a moment, Ling Mohan finally stepped into the manor.

Feng Jin took Lin Yuwei directly to her room, not even going to the main hall. She was worried that in her excitement, she might say something else frivolous that others might overhear, spread it like wildfire, and cause more trouble.

"Tell me quickly, what's the rare event?"

After handing Lin Yuwei a cup of tea, Feng Jin asked impatiently.

Having been away from the capital for some time, Ling Wan rarely left her room, so she was completely unaware of any events that had transpired in the capital.

Now that Lin Yuwei had come to visit, she naturally had to inquire thoroughly.

It would also enrich her knowledge, and more importantly, she hadn't heard any gossip for a long time. Girls were always so keen on such matters.

"Speaking of rare events... the most lively thing in the capital right now is none other than the Third Prince's manor..."
