凌墨寒 could no longer bear to watch Chu Chenyi pace back and forth in front of him. It was the first time he had ever offered such good-natured comfort.
However, this comfort did little to alleviate Chu Chenyi's worries. His wife was lying inside, her life hanging in the balance, while Ling Mohan seemed to have no concern at all and was in the mood to make sarcastic remarks.
After another cup of tea, seeing that there was still no movement from inside, Chu Chenyi could no longer contain himself.
He decided to go in, regardless of the consequences. It was better than being shut out and knowing nothing.
Unable to wait any longer, Chu Chenyi stood up and walked towards the door. He was determined to barge in today, even if it meant breaking down the door.
Sensing Chu Chenyi's intention, Ling Mohan lost his appetite for tea. However, he remembered Feng Jin's instructions and knew he absolutely could not let Chu Chenyi enter at this moment.
Ling Mohan quickly stood up and blocked Chu Chenyi's path, saying, "Calm yourself. If you barge in now, you'll only cause more trouble, and it won't do Lin Yuwei any good. Just wait patiently for a little longer. They'll be out soon."
"No, I can't wait any longer. It's not Feng Jin who's in danger inside. If it were Feng Jin, you would have lost your patience long ago!"
He had already waited for a considerable amount of time, and now he couldn't wait another moment. If he waited any longer, he would surely go mad with anxiety outside. His only thought now was to go in immediately and see Lin Yuwei safe and sound. Only then could his heart be at peace.
He no longer cared about anything else. Chu Chenyi struggled with all his might to break free from Ling Mohan and rushed towards the room.
Just as his hand was about to touch the doorknob, the tightly closed door suddenly opened from the inside. Feng Jin's figure appeared before him, and Chu Chenyi, caught off guard, froze, almost falling to the ground.
"Didn't I tell you to wait outside? Why are you making such a fuss? Are you still a three-year-old child, unable to distinguish between what's important and what's not?"
Feng Jin's voice was tinged with anger. She had repeatedly told them not to barge in rashly, but they still wouldn't listen, eager to squeeze their way in and take a look.
If she hadn't opened the door herself, Chu Chenyi would probably have kicked it down in the next second.
"This king... this king also resorted to this out of concern!" Chu Chenyi, knowing he was in the wrong, lacked confidence in his voice. His tone was light and clearly lacked spirit.
After an awkward pause of a few seconds, Chu Chenyi impatiently asked about Lin Yuwei's condition, "How is she? Is she seriously injured? Can I go in and see her now?"
Chu Chenyi asked a series of questions, all revolving around Lin Yuwei.
Feng Jin was somewhat satisfied that Chu Chenyi's first question was about Lin Yuwei's condition, not directly about the child in her womb.
It seemed Chu Chenyi still had some conscience. Seeing his concern for Lin Yuwei, she decided not to make things too difficult for him.
"She's fine. Her condition has improved significantly, but she still needs to rest well. Most importantly, you must not let her get angry. Pregnant women are most sensitive to emotional instability, which can harm the child in the womb. In severe cases, both mother and child can be harmed..."
"In any case, I've explained everything to you. You're on your own now. After all, you won't always be this lucky to escape unharmed. Think carefully about it."
Given the circumstances, she had done all she could. The future was for the two of them to live together, and how they lived was their choice.
Even a wise judge couldn't settle a family dispute. She couldn't always be there to clean up their mess.
"Since things have come to this, you should reflect on it yourself. You can't just come to us for help every time something happens!"
Ling Mohan was also annoyed by their troubles. Dealing with them had already taken up too much of his time. He had planned to take Feng Jin and their child out for a stroll today, but now, because of them, he had no time to do so.
This time, he was determined to stand with Feng Jin and prevent the two of them from constantly showing up, as it was simply too bothersome.
Feng Jin turned and glared at Ling Mohan. He was good at taking advantage of the situation; that was a very timely remark.
"Stop making sarcastic remarks. Didn't I ask you to keep an eye on him and not let him in? What did you do? You almost let him run in and nearly caused a major problem!"
"I tried to stop him. He went mad like he had mad cow disease and kept trying to charge in. He almost injured me..."
Ling Mohan's tone was filled with grievance. He had indeed tried to stop him and even tried to persuade him with kind words, but Chu Chenyi was stubborn as a mule and completely ignored his advice. He truly couldn't stop him.
"Stop wasting time. You two should leave now. I'll send someone to call you when she wakes up."
Feng Jin was about to usher the two out. Since they couldn't help, and were more likely to cause trouble, it was better for them to leave quickly.
"Alright, I'm leaving now." Ling Mohan was now completely obedient to Feng Jin's words. Upon hearing her command, he immediately pulled Chu Chenyi outside.
"You're a henpecked husband! Spineless! I look down on you!"
Chu Chenyi hadn't expected Ling Mohan to actually drag him away. He already knew that Ling Mohan was utterly obedient to Feng Jin, but he hadn't expected him to be so submissive.
He suspected that if Feng Jin sneezed, Ling Mohan would be scared enough to wet his pants. What a useless person! To be so afraid of his wife was truly embarrassing.
"Say less. If you were so capable, why didn't you just barge in earlier? Why did you retreat?"
Ling Mohan's words struck a nerve with Chu Chenyi, as if he had grabbed him by the throat, leaving him speechless.
"I... I did that because... because..." Chu Chenyi struggled to find a suitable reason to explain himself, but all he could do was stammer.
"Stop talking nonsense. I know you well enough. I'm giving you an out; take it quickly!"
Ling Mohan gave Chu Chenyi a contemptuous glance. With his limited courage, he was now putting on airs. Didn't he look like he had lost his soul in fear of Feng Jin earlier?
If he truly had the courage, he would have rushed in already. He wouldn't be babbling here. He was probably only brave enough to complain to him.
"Why have you become so cowardly? Do you intend to be oppressed by Feng Jin like this for the rest of your life? Don't you want to turn things around?"
"I'm more than willing. It's none of your business!"
