It seems I should treat Lin Yuwei better in the future, lest she truly leave and I end up without a wife.
"I've said all I can. Think about it yourself."
Feng Jin couldn't be bothered to say more. She had already said what needed to be said, and it was all up to Chu Chenyi's understanding.
As her words fell, Feng Jin turned to leave. Just as she lifted one foot, the tightly closed door was violently kicked open from the outside.
Then, Ling Mohan's enraged face appeared. Upon seeing him, Feng Jin froze for a moment before reacting, "Why are you here?"
Why did he come at this time, and in such a furious state? Looking at his face, as foul as a rock in a privy, she felt extremely annoyed.
Ling Mohan's gaze fell directly on Feng Jin, scrutinizing her from head to toe. Only when he confirmed she was unharmed did he slowly let out a sigh of relief. He reached out and pulled Feng Jin into his embrace, holding her tightly.
Startled by his sudden action, Feng Jin was held stiffly in his arms, even forgetting to resist.
It wasn't until his arms gradually tightened, and Feng Jin could barely breathe, that she forcefully patted him, "Let go quickly, I can't breathe."
With a forceful slap to his chest, Ling Mohan realized his mistake and quickly loosened his grip.
Feng Jin gasped for air, coughing. She had nearly lost her life to Ling Mohan. A sense of having narrowly escaped death washed over her. Feng Jin glared fiercely at Ling Mohan, "What's gotten into you? Why did you use so much force!"
"Sorry, I got a bit emotional just now and didn't control my strength."
He had rushed over without a moment's rest. Seeing Feng Jin naturally made him agitated, and he hadn't controlled his emotions. Fortunately, Feng Jin had hit him hard enough to snap him out of it.
Feng Jin rolled her eyes and said irritably, "Who asked you to come? I told you to stay home and look after the child. I'll be back tomorrow morning."
No matter how much she planned, she never expected Ling Mohan to rush over at this moment; it was completely beyond her expectations.
"You're here. What about the child? Who did you leave the child with!"
Realizing the child was alone at home with no one by their side, Feng Jin immediately became anxious, her tone towards Ling Mohan intensifying.
"I sent the child to grandfather's. Everything is fine, don't worry."
Ling Mohan quickly explained. He was concerned about the child now, but he hadn't thought about the child when he was staying out all night.
Moreover, Feng Jin hadn't shown any concern for him from beginning to end; all her words were about the child. He felt like he held no place in Feng Jin's heart anymore.
With this realization, the man's expression grew even gloomier. A look of utter dejection and a resentful gaze were fixed on Feng Jin, making him look like a wronged little wife.
"What's with that look?"
Feng Jin also noticed Ling Mohan's peculiar expression and the sense of grievance about him. She felt a pang of guilt, and a hint of reluctance welled up within her.
"Don't look at me like that."
"You don't even care about me, leaving me alone at home and ignoring me. You're truly heartless!"
Ling Mohan voiced his true thoughts, his resentful gaze fixated on Feng Jin, making her realize how heartless and excessive her actions had been.
"I..." Feng Jin opened her mouth, unsure of what to say. The words on her lips were swallowed back.
How had Ling Mohan become like this? She couldn't believe these words were coming from him. What thick skin did one need to utter such things?
He wanted her to go back and accompany him? Was he still a three-year-old child who needed company? He really had the audacity to say that.
She felt ashamed for Ling Mohan just hearing it. As she thought about dragging this embarrassing man away, Chu Chenyi's taunting voice rang out from behind.
"General Ling still can't be separated from his wife. Why not just tie Feng Jin to yourself?"
Chu Chenyi raised his eyebrows, his eyes flashing with a provocative glint, his expression clearly one of amusement.
These obnoxious words didn't anger Ling Mohan, but they thoroughly ignited Feng Jin's wrath. She casually grabbed a teacup from the table and hurled it with all her might towards Chu Chenyi.
A sudden projectile flew towards him, and Chu Chenyi barely reacted in time. Fortunately, at the last second, he narrowly dodged it.
The expensive teacup smashed into the bookshelf behind him, scattering shards and spilling tea everywhere.
Chu Chenyi was so startled that he patted his frightened little heart. That was a close call... a very close call. The teacup had almost hit his face.
If that teacup had struck him, he wouldn't have been able to show his face in public. It would have ruined him.
"Lucky for you that you dodged it. If you dare to spout nonsense again, the next thing I throw won't be a teacup, and you won't be so lucky to dodge it."
Not hitting Chu Chenyi, Feng Jin felt thoroughly unsatisfied. If only she had silver needles on hand, she would have thrown them like a scattered flower, to see if Chu Chenyi would dare to spout nonsense again.
"Serves you right!"
Ling Mohan glanced at Chu Chenyi, whose soul had almost been scared out of him, and scornfully dismissed him. With such little courage, he dared to provoke Feng Jin, which was clearly courting death.
If it had been him earlier, he might have thrown a dagger, and he certainly wouldn't have let Chu Chenyi dodge it so easily. He had truly gotten off lightly.
"You shouldn't embarrass yourself here. Hurry up and go."
Feng Jin turned to look at Ling Mohan, who was still standing there, and pulled him away. It was all his doing that made her this embarrassed.
As they reached the doorway, Ling Mohan's steps suddenly stopped. He was so focused on pulling Feng Jin away that he almost forgot the main business. He then pulled Feng Jin's hand and walked back.
Upon seeing the two return, Ling Mohan froze, his gaze sharp and vigilant as he looked at them, "Why are you two back?"
They hadn't regretted it and come back to trouble him, had they? Chu Chenyi immediately became alert, looking at them with full defense.
"Tomorrow, Baili Xi invites you to discuss the wedding etiquette. Don't forget."
