Chapter 6 The Wager

Ling Muzhu was supported by servants as she entered. Upon seeing Feng Jin standing to the side, her eyes nearly bulged out, "You dare to accuse the victim first! You all hold her down and break her legs..."

"Silence!"

Old Master Ling stamped his cane several times and reprimanded, "Nange is your eldest sister-in-law. How dare you disrespect her in front of me? What will you do behind my back? How could the Ling family produce two such unruly descendants?"

"Grandfather, this woman tried to harm Eldest Brother. Why are you still speaking up for her?"

Ling Muzhu was instantly anxious, ignoring the injury to her leg as she hopped towards Old Master Ling.

"Harm Han'er?" Hearing this, Old Master Ling's gaze sharpened as he turned towards Feng Jin.

"I saw with my own eyes that she stuck many needles into cousin. Isn't this attempted murder?"

Ling Muzhu, believing her grandfather was angered, quickly embellished the scene she claimed to have witnessed.

Given her grandfather's regard for her cousin, he wouldn't let Feng Jin off the hook!

Hmph!

After grandfather kicked this woman out, she would order someone to capture her and then torture her severely to vent her anger.

"How can someone with malicious intent be kept by Eldest Brother's side?"

Ling Yan, hearing this, felt there was an opportunity. He looked at Feng Jin with malice and provocation, "Grandfather, expel her."

Feng Jin raised her eyebrows, having no intention of arguing.

"You know medicine?"

Old Master Feng glanced at Feng Jin, his eyes clearly showing a hint of suspicion.

It was common knowledge that the legitimate daughter of the Feng family had been sent to the countryside since birth, had never attended school, and couldn't even recognize a single character.

"A little."

Feng Jin nodded, paused, and then added, "When I was young, I accidentally saved an old man. That old man knew medicine and taught me to identify some herbs."

Since she had decided to treat Ling Mohan, her knowledge of medicine would be exposed sooner or later.

Rather than being passively revealed, it was better to state it herself.

As for whether these people would believe her explanation, that was not her concern.

"You know medicine?"

Ling Yan burst into laughter as if he had heard a hilarious joke, saying with contempt, "Even if you're going to lie, you should find something that can't be easily exposed. I've never seen anyone as foolish as you!"

"Everyone knows you are illiterate. How dare you claim to know medicine? It's truly disgusting!" Ling Muzhu quickly chimed in.

Feng Jin's expression was calm, showing no panic at being exposed.

"Since you understand medicine, do you know why Han'er has not woken up yet?" Old Master Ling pondered for a moment, his eyes carrying a hint of inquiry.

"He hasn't woken up because within his body..."

As Feng Jin spoke, she was interrupted by Ling Muzhu, "How could a village girl like her possibly know medicine? Grandfather, don't be fooled by her."

"Does Old Master Feng believe me?" Feng Jin looked up at Old Master Feng.

"How do you intend to prove it?"

Old Master Feng observed her for a while, seeing her calm demeanor, clearly testing her.

Perhaps, this daughter of the Feng family had encountered some fortuitous encounter.

After all, many reclusive masters preferred to live in seclusion, possibly in the countryside where this girl resided.

"Grandfather doesn't actually believe her, does he..."

Before Ling Yan could finish speaking, he was stopped by a look from Old Master Feng, and he reluctantly shut his mouth.

"I believe that in the past six months, Old Master Feng has consulted many renowned physicians for Ling Mohan. What did those physicians say? Have they made a diagnosis?"

Feng Jin's tone was light.

"The doctors said Han'er's brain was injured. As for when he would wake up, they couldn't determine."

Mentioning his proud eldest grandson, Old Master Feng couldn't help but sigh.

To help his grandson wake up sooner, he had tried every method, and now he had even resorted to the method of a wedding to ward off evil spirits.

Feng Jin had intended to say that she could wake Ling Mohan today, but after thinking about it, she changed her words, "I just finished acupuncture on him. He will wake up tomorrow."

"Just you? You really dare to brag!"

"Oh! You really think of yourself as a miracle doctor? When they call you fat, you really start panting."

Upon hearing this, Ling Yan and Ling Muzhu scoffed in unison.

A flicker of joy appeared in Old Master Feng's eyes as he asked, "Are you truly confident?"

"Grandfather, you don't actually believe her, do you? Someone who can't even recognize a single character probably can't even distinguish herbs," Ling Muzhu sneered. "If she knows medicine, I'll twist my head off and use it as a stool for her."

"Deal!"

Feng Jin nodded decisively. Before Ling Muzhu could recover from her shock, she heard her continue, "If I can make Ling Mohan wake up tomorrow, I win. Otherwise, I lose!"

"However... I don't need you to cut off your head. I just need you to apologize to me."

"Fine, provided you win. If you lose, not only will you have to kneel and kowtow to me, but you will also have to get out of the Grand Tutor's mansion."

Ling Muzhu, seeing her still feigning strength, readily agreed, waiting to expose her true colors tomorrow.
