Chapter 202 Defending Against Ling Mohan

Ling Mohan was extremely angry about Feng Jin’s actions. He had been solely focused on recuperating Feng Jin’s health, only for his good intentions to be met with ingratitude. Since she cared so little for her own well-being, why should he, like a fool, rush forward to have his warmth met with cold indifference?

Recalling the events, Ling Mohan felt a pang of sorrow in his chest, his very breath ached.

“I…” Feng Jin opened her mouth but couldn’t form any words, her gaze cautiously assessing the man’s expression.

Had she spoken too harshly? After careful consideration, Feng Jin realized that although Ling Mohan’s words and actions were somewhat bothersome, they were ultimately for her own good.

With this realization, Feng Jin took a step forward, tentatively reaching out to tug at the man’s hanging sleeve. She gently shook it, lowering her voice as she asked hesitantly, “Ling Mohan… are you really angry?”

Her words were met with silence.

“You truly are angry. I know you’re concerned about me, but you’re being too overbearing. Your actions put pressure on me, so much that I can barely breathe.”

Having been so strictly managed by Ling Mohan these past few days, Feng Jin felt she had lost all personal freedom.

Ling Mohan’s eyes tightened, and he looked at Feng Jin with disbelief. His concern had made her feel this way? Had he truly erred?

“I apologize. I never imagined I would cause you so much pressure. I was merely worried about your health and wanted you to…”

Feng Jin stepped forward and firmly embraced the man, burying her head in his chest. “I understand. Everything you do is for my own good. I spoke too harshly earlier, please don’t be angry with me.”

Ling Mohan sighed, his arm tightening around the woman in his embrace. “I’ve never been angry with you. I’m only blaming myself for making you angry, for not taking better care of you.”

“In my homeland, mothers care for their children. It’s how everyone is. Believe me, I can take care of the children and myself.”

“Alright. Whatever you say.”

Ling Mohan couldn’t bear to refuse Feng Jin’s request any longer. As long as she was happy, he would agree to anything she wished.

“You said it, you can’t go back on your word.”

Feng Jin’s voice held a hint of worry, fearing that Ling Mohan might change his mind and renege on his promise.

“I promise I won’t go back on my word. You will personally care for the two children.”

Only then did Feng Jin’s lips curve into a satisfied smile. She pulled Ling Mohan’s hand and eagerly went to see the children.

Feng Jin stood by the cradles, quietly watching the two sleeping treasures, occasionally reaching out to touch their tiny hands.

To facilitate the care of Feng Jin and the twins, Ling Mohan had moved his study over. He would look up from his desk periodically to glance at Feng Jin, and only after confirming she was fine would he return to his books.

“Your page-turning is too loud. You’re disturbing their sleep.”

When Feng Jin saw Er Bao furrow his brow slightly, she concluded that Ling Mohan’s rustling of pages was too loud and had disturbed their slumber.

She shot Ling Mohan a chiding look, her displeasure evident on her face.

She had told him more than once to move his books back to the study and not work here. What if he disturbed the children?

“I wasn’t,” Ling Mohan said with a hint of grievance. He had been turning the pages very quietly; it was impossible that he had disturbed the twins’ sleep. Yet, in Feng Jin’s eyes, everything he did seemed to be wrong.

Even turning a page had become a major offense. Ling Mohan sighed, losing the mood to continue reading. He lifted his robes and walked over to the children.

He gazed at the two peacefully sleeping treasures, completely unaware of any disturbance caused by his page-turning, a situation he attributed to Feng Jin’s usual exaggeration.

He reached out and pinched Da Bao’s round little cheek. It was this little fellow who caused so much trouble that even breathing loudly felt like a luxury.

“What are you doing!”

Seeing this, Feng Jin was startled, her eyes widening as if from an earthquake. She immediately slapped Ling Mohan’s hand away, pushing him back to distance him from the two treasures.

She always felt Ling Mohan posed the greatest danger and needed to be kept far away.

“What are you doing? I am their father. Can I not even touch them?”

Stunned by the sudden push, Ling Mohan first paused, then reacted, arguing his case with Feng Jin.

Feng Jin let out a cold snort, her eyes full of vigilance as she looked at Ling Mohan. She parted her red lips slightly and said, “You call that touching? You were clearly pinching Da Bao’s face. How dare you call yourself their father? Do you really want me to expose your good deeds?”

“What good deeds have I done? Don’t falsely accuse me!”

Ling Mohan adamantly refused to admit to it, putting on an appearance of utter innocence.

“Fine, you won’t admit it? Then I’ll make you completely give up. The other day you almost dropped Da Bao, yesterday you scared Er Bao and told her not to cry, this morning you forgot to cover Er Bao with a blanket, and just now you pinched Da Bao’s face. Which of these has been an exaggeration on my part!”

“Cough… Those were all accidents. I just wanted to play with them and it was unintentional. You can’t stop me from touching them because of these incidents.”

Ling Mohan remained unrepentant, still believing he had done nothing wrong.

It was all Feng Jin overreacting and being overly anxious.

“You’re still quibbling. In any case, you are not allowed to casually touch Da Bao and Er Bao anymore!”

Feng Jin’s tone was firm, and she meant what she said. Ling Mohan tried several times to stealthily touch the twins, but he was caught each time and failed.

In the following days, Feng Jin’s vigilance remained high, giving Ling Mohan no opportunity to even make contact. He could only watch the two treasures from afar.

“Just let me hold them. I’ll be careful,” Ling Mohan said with a fawning smile, approaching Feng Jin and reaching out to take the child from her arms.

Feng Jin shot him a fierce glare, and Ling Mohan sheepishly withdrew his hand.

“Don’t touch them!” Feng Jin scolded angrily, carefully placing Da Bao back into the cradle before picking up Er Bao.

“Cai Qing, keep an eye on Da Bao. Don’t let certain people touch him.”

“Young Madam, rest assured. Your servant understands,” Cai Qing replied, dutifully guarding the cradle. Several times, Ling Mohan tried to secretly kiss Da Bao, but Cai Qing discovered him and chased him away.

Ling Mohan became much more subdued, waiting for Feng Jin’s guard to drop so he could seize the opportunity.

“Put away your little schemes. You won’t get a chance to take advantage!” Feng Jin saw through Ling Mohan’s intentions at a glance and called him out directly, extinguishing his last sliver of hope.
