Chapter 1649: Chapter 1649: Stewing a Blood-Nourishing Soup
To reward his stomach, Jian Yufei personally cooked a lot of delicious dishes.
At the dining table, it was just the three of them.
Ruan Tianling, Jian Yufei, and Mo Lan.
After spending some time together, Jian Yufei and Mo Lan’s feelings for each other had grown increasingly close.
Both of them didn’t have many friends, so they especially cherished their friendship.
Jian Yufei opened a bottle of red wine with only 15% alcohol content. She poured two glasses, one for herself and one for Mo Lan.
Picking up her glass, Jian Yufei smiled at her and said, “Mo Lan, thank you so much for taking care of Ansel during this time. Here’s to you.”
Mo Lan did not refuse. After clinking glasses, the two of them downed their drinks in one go.
Then, Mo Lan picked up the wine bottle again and refilled both of their glasses.
“Yufei, I want to toast you as well. Thank you for taking care of me all this time. I have no family and no friends. If it weren’t for you taking me in, this big wide world would have nowhere for me. So, thank you.”
Jian Yufei smiled and said, “Alright, I’ll accept your thanks.”
After drinking the wine, Jian Yufei said, “Let’s eat. Try out my cooking. I spent all afternoon making these dishes.”
“Alright.” Mo Lan smiled as she picked up some food, praising Jian Yufei’s culinary skills endlessly.
Jian Yufei picked up her chopsticks and placed some food in Ruan Tianling’s bowl.
“You’ve been eating porridge for days now, you must be tired of it. Eat more of the dishes.”
Ruan Tianling raised his eyebrow. “You seem a little different today.”
Jian Yufei responded speechlessly, “Being nicer to you is being different? Then I won’t be nice to you anymore, alright?”
“Alright, I admit I said the wrong thing.” Ruan Tianling quickly corrected himself.
Jian Yufei smiled and added more food to his bowl. “Eat up. Have more.”
Satisfied, Ruan Tianling ate the food she placed in his bowl. Each time he finished, Jian Yufei would add more for him.
She rarely showed him this much warmth, leaving Ruan Tianling feeling slightly overwhelmed by the affection. At the same time, he ate all the food she picked for him.
Once they had almost finished eating, Jian Yufei spoke to him again. “Eat less. Don’t eat until you’re too full. I’ve been simmering some blood-nourishing soup; have a bowl before bedtime tonight.”
Ruan Tianling put down his chopsticks with a smile and stood up. “Alright, you two take your time eating. I have some matters to take care of.”
“Don’t overwork yourself,” Jian Yufei reminded him.
“Got it.” Ruan Tianling chuckled and ruffled her hair lightly.
If Mo Lan weren’t present, he would have kissed her lips before leaving.
Mo Lan said enviously, “Yufei, you two have such a good relationship.”
Jian Yufei thought about how she would be leaving soon. A faint trace of melancholy flickered in her eyes, concealed from view.
“Mo Lan, in the coming time, I may not be able to look after Ansel. I’ll be relying on you to take care of him. Thank you.”
Mo Lan assumed they were preparing to deal with Nangong Xu.
“I don’t have much to do anyways, and I really like Ansel. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him for you.”
“Thank you.” Jian Yufei said sincerely.
“Yufei, you’re too polite.”
Jian Yufei smiled lightly, saying no more.
…
Soon, it was time to go to bed.
Jian Yufei ladled a bowl of soup and carried it upstairs.
Ruan Tianling was lying on the bed reading the newspaper. Seeing her come in, he set the newspaper aside.
“Drink the soup. I simmered it for seven to eight hours to get it ready,” Jian Yufei said as she sat down beside him, passing him the bowl.
Ruan Tianling leaned forward slightly. “Seven to eight hours? Why simmer it so long?”
