Chapter 1625: Chapter 1625: Let Daddy Tell You a Story

“I don’t really know. I couldn’t understand what they were saying, and you probably wouldn’t understand, either. They said it’s caused by prolonged fatigue, but it’s not a big problem.” Jian Yufei lied without blinking.

Ansel reluctantly believed her explanation, because he had been training his body intensively—fatigue was definitely likely.

“Mommy, how long did I sleep for?”

“Not too long, just half a day.”

Ansel felt more at ease, but he still hated being sick.

“Mommy, I’m hungry.” He pouted and acted spoiled, becoming even more childlike when he was sick.

“I’ll go get you something to eat.”

Jian Yufei heated up the porridge Mo Lan had bought in the microwave. By the time she brought it over, Ansel had already propped himself up, weakly leaning against the headboard.

Normally, he was always full of energy, but now his sickly appearance made Jian Yufei’s heart ache.

Jian Yufei placed the porridge on the bedside table. She pulled him close and began to feed him while holding him.

Ansel ate a few bites of porridge and couldn’t stop complaining, “Mommy, I hate being sick.”

“You’ll get better soon. Baby, just hang in there a little while longer.”

After a few more bites, he mumbled uncomfortably, “I don’t like staying in the hospital.”

“We’ll be discharged in a couple of days. Mommy will stay with you the whole time. If I stay by your side, will you feel a little better?”

“Mm-hmm, yes!”

Jian Yufei kissed his cheek. “How about this?”

Ansel giggled, “That makes it even better.”

Jian Yufei smiled dotingly, “Come on, open your mouth and eat more.”

She was worried he’d fall asleep again, uncertain about when he’d wake up for the next meal.

Though he was on an IV drip for nutrients, eating was still healthier.

Ruan Tianling pushed the door open and saw Jian Yufei holding Ansel, feeding him.

The little guy was awake.

A hint of a smile appeared in Ruan Tianling’s eyes as he stepped forward and gently stroked Ansel’s head.

“Daddy, what’s wrong with me?” As soon as he saw him, Ansel eagerly asked.

Jian Yufei quickly shot Ruan Tianling a look.

Ruan Tianling chuckled, “It’s nothing serious—just that your body’s not doing so well, so you got sick. You don’t have any pain or discomfort, you’re just a bit weak.”

“Really?” Ansel furrowed his little brows. “Daddy, don’t hide anything from me. If I’ve got some terminal disease, I need to hurry and do all the things I want to do.”

“Ansel!” Jian Yufei interrupted him helplessly, “Why do you always think of the worst? If you really had some terminal disease, would Daddy and Mommy still be able to laugh?”

Ansel suddenly understood, “That’s true. Amazing! I guess I’m not going to die after all.”

“You brat! Even if someone were dying, your old man hasn’t kicked the bucket yet, so you wouldn’t be next in line!” Ruan Tianling scolded, and Jian Yufei immediately glared at him.

“What kind of metaphor is that?! Both of you, shut up!”

Both father and son clammed up, not daring to anger her.

Ansel finished eating and soon felt sleepy again.

Jian Yufei’s heart was constantly on edge, terrified he might fall asleep.

It wasn’t the act of sleeping that scared her—it was the fear that he might sleep and never wake up.

“Mommy, tell me a story. I don’t want to sleep.” Lying in bed, Ansel drooped his eyelids sleepily.

Jian Yufei didn’t know how to tell stories. Even if she did, she couldn’t think of any right now.

She pulled Ruan Tianling over, “How about Daddy tells you a story?”

Ansel’s eyes lit up, “Does Daddy know how?”
