Chapter 317: Don’t face things by yourself

Chapter 317: Don’t face things by yourself

After Old Master King and Old Madam King left the Eve Mansion, the atmosphere in the place was ambiguous.

Ella did not know what to make out of it. The reaction of the Old couple towards her marriage declaration did not seem much favorable but it did not feel as unfavorable either.

They did not say much. Instead they just looked at Adrian, as if they were looking for confirmation.

But Adrian’s unflinching face proved that Ella’s words were nothing but the truth.

And after that, the old couple simply exchanged a glance before they left.

’Maybe they would give me a blank cheque to leave their grandson the next time we meet...’ Ella thought, stroking her chin.

When the silence in the living room stretched further, Ella turned her head.

Adrian was still in his previous spot, but his expressions seemed to be covered in shadows.

One couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

Ella blinked, "Earlier, I thought... We should tell them the truth. You wanted to do it before as well but I stopped you so..."

"You did that for me?" Adrian turned to her, facing her fully.

Ella blinked again, "Of course, I don’t want you to be blamed and questioned by everyone. It’s true that I don’t want our marriage to go public soon but it’s fine if we let your grandparents know..."

She had not finished speaking when she was swept inside a warm embrace.

Her heart skipped a beat as she heard the sound of his racing heartbeats.

Adrian wrapped one arm around her waist, while his other palm rested on the back of her head, "Whatever you want," He whispered.

Ella’s lips tugged up as she hugged him back.

In a rare moment, she had a sudden realization. Adrian was not accustomed to people defending him or protecting him.

"Adrian, in the future, you don’t have to face everything by yourself. I will be there with you..."

Ella hadn’t even finished speaking when she was lifted in the air.

Adrian carried her upstairs, his footsteps steady.

The moment they entered the Master bedroom, the door closed behind them.

Adrian placed Ella on the bed, his gaze swirling with undecipherable feelings and desires.

Just as he began to lean in towards her, Ella sat up suddenly, "Oh, I remember now!" She jumped off the bed excitedly and squatted in front of the bedside table.

The corner of Adrian’s brow twitched as a porcelain bowl appeared in his view.

Ella effortlessly filled the bowl with water and placed it in the middle of the bed.

Then, she slowly got into her side of the bed and patted the other pillow, "Baby, your wounds have only recently healed. It’s better to be safe than sorry!"

Adrian looked at the girl’s twinkling eyes and the hint of a sly smirk on her face, and a few lines formed between his brows.

Just like that, the two people settled on each side of the bed. A porcelain bowl filled with water sparkled between the both of them.

In no time, Ella closed her eyes.

But in the dim lighting of the room, Adrian did not take his eyes off her face.

’It is unfair that Kade is allowed to live his life freely while Adrian must remain shackled.’

’Adrian and I are married.’

’I am his legitimate wife. With this status, can I stay under the same roof as him?’

’Thump’ ’Thump’ ’Thump’

Adrian could hear the sound of his own heartbeats.

Spring flowers blossomed around him. And the man tossed and turned on the bed, barely able to calm his mind.

’Rustle’

Suddenly, there was a small movement on the bed.

Adrian’s eyes lowered and he watched a dainty hand holding shifting the bowl to the bedside table.

Ella then scooted closer to him and nestled her face in his embrace. One of her hands rested on him, hugging him gently.

’Thump thump thump thump thump thump!’

Adrian gulped.

"Sleep..." Ella mumbled drowsily through half lidded eyes.

The next morning, by the time Ella woke up, Adrian was nowhere in bed.

The man was sitting on the couch, dressed in a black suit, prim and proper, looking every bit of the classic hot CEO.

Ella sighed in her heart. The rest was fine... but how was she supposed to get used to this man’s beauty?

Imagine opening your eyes early in the morning and Adrian King sits there—Hello, I am brighter than the sun. Am I blinding you properly?

Adrian slowly raised his head and his long lashes fluttered as he looked up.

Ella clutched her chest.

Adrian frowned, "Not feeling well?"

Ella coughed, feeling a bit guilty, "I am fine... Are you going to work today?"

"Mm."

In fact, Ella was already surprised how he managed to stay put at home for so long. Or given his nature, he would have resumed his work the moment he regained consciousness.

Adrian walked over to the bed.

As his shadow hovered over her, Ella snapped out of her trance.

Suddenly, his lips touched her forehead as he placed a gentle and lingering kiss.

Then, he took a small step back and stroked her hair, "Be good."

His voice and those words tickled something inside her. Ella cleared her throat, "You are talking as if I am Lala."

A rare smile curved on Adrian’s lips, "Are you not?"

Ella was speechless. Only after the man was gone did she come back to her senses.

Which part of her was like a cat? Did she paw him? Hmph, next time, she would scratch him to death since she looked like a cat to him.

Ella was just about to drop back on the bed when her phone buzzed suddenly.

Seeing that it was a call from Ruby, Ella immediately perked up.

If she remembered it right, today was supposed to be the first day of shooting ’The Rising Rose’.

Ella immediately answered the call.

But before Ella could utter a single word, Ruby’s cold voice resounded from the other side, "Why?"
