Chapter 320: She owes her
Ruby’s expressions were unreadable and one couldn’t say what she was thinking.
"You can take some time to think about my offers, Miss Ambrose. If you need me to make any adjustments, we can discuss. Don’t just refuse them in a hurry..." Mo Jun sighed, "Because Ella has certainly worked quite hard for this!"
Ruby glanced at the two files lying on the desk in a daze.
After Ruby left the room, there was another knock on Mo Jun’s door.
Seated on the couch, Mo Jun frowned, pinching the spot between his brows, "Come in."
The door opened and the sounds of heels reverberated in the place.
Mo Jun looked up, only to realize that it was Violet who had entered.
Suddenly met by his gaze, Violet’s face flushed.
"Yes?"
"M-M-Mr. Mo, t-t-thank you."
Mo Jun’s face softened as he sighed, "You don’t need to thank me. The reason I got you back for this role was because you performed really well during the audition. And secondly, it was a good friend’s wish so naturally, I couldn’t turn her down."
A hint of disappointment flickered in Violet’s eyes, "O-O-Oh... I-I see..."
Mo Jun looked at her silently.
Violet squirmed under his gaze, lowering her head even further.
"I think you should try to work on your stutter to fit this role properly."
Violet’s eyes widened.Stutter? What stutter? "B-But I-I... am n-not..."
She trailed off when she realized that the man had already picked up a file and started flipping through it.
"Hmm, did you say something?" Mo Jun looked her way.
Violet hurriedly shook her head and ran out of the room.
Mo Jun placed the file back on the table and looked in the direction Violent had left in as the door began to close.
Ella had mentioned Violet way later into their deal, more like an afterthought.
Ella said that Violet had made peace with being replaced and was looking to start a new life in the countryside.
At that moment, Mo Jun had asked her in confusion, ’If so, then why do you want me to put so much effort to bring her back?’
’I am just asking you to try. She might not even come,’ Ella had calmly said, ’You can take it as a present from me if she agrees to come.’
Mo Jun had been bewildered at that time. But later, he deciphered it as: Bringing Violet over was like getting another talented actress under Mo Entertainment.
So, Ella must have meant that.
But now looking at the ’clumsy’ girl; he saw just then, Mo Jun suddenly couldn’t understand if his previous assumption was true.
Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind.
’Has Ella sincerely started treating me as a friend? Thinking that I am still heartbroken over Esther, she is trying to set me up with another woman?’ Mo Jun fell speechless, feeling an oncoming headache.
While he was quite happy that Ella was starting to let her guards down against him and she saw him as a friend now, he was overwhelmed by such a passionate display of friendship.
"Ah, life is hard..." Mo Jun sighed, wondering how to ask Ella to keep it low in the future.
...
Just as Ruby left the place, someone blocked her path.
"You can’t be staying in delusions, Ruby. You know that this wedding won’t be called off, don’t you?"
Ruby looked up at Max, her brows tugging together.
"I might have been the one to act. But it was your father’s intention to kick you out from this drama," Max continued, "Uncle Ambrose is serious about this wedding."
Ruby’s eyes chilled, "So?"
"Now is not the time to act naive, Ruby. You know that the Ambrose family is hollow from inside. Only if you join hands with us would you have a chance at a real comeback. Or else, in no time, your status would completely collapse."
Speaking of that, Max fell silent for a moment before he said, "And then, it would be too late for you to regret. Uncle Ambrose knows this so he would never stop this marriage from happening."
Ruby nodded slowly.
Max looked at her doubtfully. Seeing the lack of expression on his face, the calm smile on his face dropped a little.
"You had an affair with your secretary, now you are seeing Esther and during this time, you have been involved with many other women. Maxwell Hill, do you not find yourself filthy enough for me?"
Max’s breath hitched as he took a step towards Ruby.
Ruby did not flinch from his threatening stance, nor did she budge from her spot, "Why must you insist on this marriage?"
"Regardless of who I am with, you are the most ideal for the position of my legal wife. My parents believe that too. And the entire world knows of our engagement. If you call it off now, then the Hill family would also be laughed at..."
Taking a deep breath, Max slowly retreated, "So, you should quit your dreams and follow along with things as they were initially planned."
After saying his piece, he did not even wait for Ruby’s response as he left.
Ruby’s lips thinned.
Pinching the spot between her brows, she pulled out her phone and called Ella’s number.
The call was answered within a few rings, "Why?"
...
Ella was completely awake when she heard Ruby’s question, "What happened? Is everything alright?"
"Why are you doing all of this for me?" Ruby’s voice cracked a little, her tough exterior seemed to be on the verge of collapsing, "How have I treated you all these years, Ella? Why must you do these for me?"
Ella fell silent.
Although she did not know what transpired today, it must be the things she had planned in advance.
It seemed like everything happened earlier than planned.
"I don’t get it... I don’t get it. Why would you...?"
"This is what I owe you, Ruby," Ella cut her off, her eyes reddening slightly.
"Owe me? You owe me nothing!"
