Chapter 86 Leaving the Hospital

Seeing her get angry, Gu Xingdong had no choice but to obediently let her help him back onto the bed. Chen Lishu was greatly frightened by his constantly bloody bandages and quickly ran out to call the doctor.

"The patient's wound has just been sutured and he cannot get out of bed, nor can he exert any force. I have re-dressed his wound and changed the bandages. This time, you must be very careful."

Chen Lishu immediately nodded upon hearing the doctor's words. She escorted the doctor to the door and asked about precautions and dietary restrictions before returning.

When she returned, Gu Xingdong's dark eyes were fixed on her. He felt as if his wife's injuries had already healed by more than half.

"Originally, I didn't plan to let Wu Zheng tell you. It was all his decision. It's just a small injury..."

"What small injury? How is it small? I saw the doctor change the dressing. It was as long as my palm, and I could see the bone! Why wouldn't you let him tell me! Do you know how worried I was? I kept trying to comfort myself on the way here, but as soon as I pushed the door open, I saw someone crying by your bed. Do you know how I felt at that moment?"

"I'm sorry." Gu Xingdong reached out to her. This time, Chen Lishu dared not lose her temper. She obediently walked over and sat by his bed, handing him her hand.

Gu Xingdong held her hand and smiled apologetically. Neither of them spoke, just quietly looking at each other until Chen Lishu's stomach audibly rumbled.

"Haven't eaten?"

Chen Lishu nodded. "I was too worried about you to have any appetite."

Gu Xingdong squeezed her soft palm. "It's my fault. I'll compensate you properly when I recover."

Chen Lishu pursed her lips and chided him with a glance. "You just need to take better care of yourself and get injured less."

Knowing that she was finally appeased, Gu Xingdong tilted his head and pointed to the bedside table. "Wu Zheng bought breakfast. Let's eat together."

Chen Lishu nodded, got up, and first propped up two pillows behind Gu Xingdong before taking the breakfast. They ate a simple meal together.

"You stayed up all night and must be tired. I don't need anyone to take care of me for the time being. There's a guesthouse nearby. Why don't you rent a room and get some sleep?"

Chen Lishu shook her head. "I don't want to leave. I just want to stay here with you."

Gu Xingdong couldn't help but smile. He shifted his body and patted the empty space next to him. "Want to come up and sleep together?"

Chen Lishu shook her head again. "Don't move around. What if I accidentally bump into your wound?" Saying this, she moved a stool over, sat down, and leaned half of her body over the bed. "I'll just nap like this."

Seeing her persistence, Gu Xingdong had no choice but to give in.

Chen Lishu closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.

The sunlight gradually rose, shining through the glass window onto her peaceful sleeping face. Her eyes were still a little red from crying earlier. Her cheeks, slightly plump with baby fat, were pressed against the back of her hand, and her tender little mouth was slightly pouted. Gu Xingdong looked at her sleeping face and felt as if he could never get enough of it.

The room was quiet. Listening to her shallow breaths, Gu Xingdong's eyelids grew heavy, and he unknowingly drifted off to sleep as well.

When Chen Lishu woke up again, Gu Xingdong was still asleep. She raised her hand to check the time; it was past eleven o'clock. After a moment's thought, she got up, went to the bathroom to wash her face, tidied her clothes, and then went to the hospital cafeteria to get food.

Before getting food, Chen Lishu first called home to report that she was safe.

Ever since they learned that Gu Xingdong was injured, the Gu family had been very worried. Especially Li Xiulan, who had tossed and turned on the kang all night. In the morning, when she went to work, she specifically instructed Gu Xingping that if Chen Lishu called, she must be informed at the field.

Chen Lishu explained the situation in detail to Gu Xingping and asked her to tell the family to relax before hanging up and heading to the hospital cafeteria.

The hospital cafeteria was divided into two areas: the staff dining area and the general public dining area. Considering the doctor said Gu Xingdong needed to eat lightly, Chen Lishu ordered two portions of congee and three steamed buns, plus a portion of stir-fried greens, costing less than a dollar in total.

As Chen Lishu approached the ward door, she suddenly heard voices from inside.

"Comrade Gu, I know it's inconvenient for you to be alone in the hospital. Please tell me if you need anything. I'm a nurse, and I treat all patients equally. Helping you to the restroom is really nothing, especially since you have an injury on your leg."

Xiao Li looked at the handsome man on the bed, her face a little shy. She had noticed him since the day he was admitted, and her colleagues in the same department were envious that she could interact with him up close.

Chen Lishu pushed the door open and entered, seeing Gu Xingdong awake in the ward bed. A young nurse stood not far from his bedside.

"You're awake?" Chen Lishu smiled and walked to the bedside, placing the food she was carrying on the bedside table.

Gu Xingdong nodded. "Just woke up."

Xiao Li was stunned when she saw the young, beautiful girl enter. She then noticed that she seemed to be very familiar with Gu Xingdong and subconsciously took Chen Lishu for his relative. "Hello, I'm Xiao Li, the nurse in charge of this area."

Chen Lishu turned her head and smiled at her. "Hello, I'm Gu Xingdong's wife. My surname is Chen."

The smile on Xiao Li's lips froze. She stared blankly at Chen Lishu, then glanced at Gu Xingdong. Her face suddenly turned red, and she tightened her grip on her record book. "Well, I need to check on the next patient room. You two carry on."

Saying this, she fled as if escaping.

When Chen Lishu saw the nurse leave, she handed the food bowl to Gu Xingdong and couldn't help but tease him. "Comrade Gu, eat up."

Gu Xingdong took the food she handed him, his eyebrows arching slightly. "You've gotten bold, daring to make fun of your man."

Chen Lishu pursed her lips and smiled. "How dare I? You clearly said you treat everyone equally. It seems your charm still needs a little more heat."

"The more you talk, the more you get into it." Gu Xingdong looked up at her and said sternly, "Let's see how I deal with you when we get back."

Chen Lishu was not afraid of his harmless threat. After eating lunch with him and washing the lunchbox, she helped Gu Xingdong to the restroom again.

In the afternoon, Chen Lishu went out and found a guesthouse near the hospital. After all, the hospital was inconvenient, and it would be much easier to change clothes at a guesthouse.

For the next three days, Chen Lishu stayed by the hospital, taking meticulous care of Gu Xingdong. It wasn't until the doctor came to check on him again and said that his wound was healing well and he could go home to recuperate that Wu Zheng drove over to pick them up.

"Originally, according to Mr. Gu's wishes, we were going to properly tidy up the house before letting sister-in-law come over. But then an accident happened. My wife and I helped to tidy up a bit. Please don't mind it," Wu Zheng said while driving.

"How could we mind? We're grateful enough. Once I'm settled, I'll invite you and sister-in-law over for a meal."
