Chapter 529: Chapter 0448: Bai Wan’er’s Marriage Arrangement (Part 6)
"You... you’re going out?"
The visitor asked curiously.
"I was opening the door for you!"
Ye Qingfeng turned around and walked inside the room, and only then did the visitor slowly close the door and come in.
"I didn’t expect you to really still be here, the only supreme presidential suite in the Mingzhu Hotel!"
The visitor was none other than Bai Wan’er’s close friend, An Ruoqing. She glanced at the room, which was decorated with extreme luxury and opulence, showing a look of surprise and envy.
"If you’re here to express awe, then I don’t have time to listen!"
Ye Qingfeng said casually. An Ruoqing was just a mere acquaintance to him; after all, the two came from different worlds.
If too entangled, it would only bring her danger, so Ye Qingfeng behaved somewhat indifferently.
An Ruoqing felt a wave of frustration and helplessness, which finally turned into a sigh.
Taking a deep breath, An Ruoqing said with some apprehension, "Mr. Ye, I came here because there’s something important I need to tell you."
"Something important?" Ye Qingfeng leaned back on the sofa, "Go ahead, what’s so important?"
"It’s about Wan’er!"
An Ruoqing cautiously observed Ye Qingfeng’s expression.
Ye Qingfeng appeared indifferent: "If it’s about Bai Wan’er, you don’t need to talk to me about it. I already asked her that day by the West Lake, but she chose not to say anything. Now, having you come to find me, do you think I would still help?"
"Ye Qingfeng!"
As soon as Ye Qingfeng finished speaking, An Ruoqing’s tone immediately rose a few notches, her face showing an angry expression.
"Don’t you think you’re going too far?"
Ye Qingfeng, hearing this, glanced obliquely, landing his gaze on An Ruoqing, making her body stiffen, and her pretty face turn pale.
She clearly remembered how coldly Ye Qingfeng could kill without blinking by the West Lake, and she was really worried that if he was displeased, he might punch her cousin An Qi, leaving no trace of them.
"Am I going too far?" Ye Qingfeng said with a half-smile, "Did I say something wrong?"
An Ruoqing didn’t know where she got the courage but suddenly stood up, shouting, "You did say something wrong. I came today not because Wan’er asked me to, but I came secretly without telling her."
She continued, "Do you know how much pain Wan’er has been in since you left Jiangnan City and returned? Every morning, I can see faint traces of tears on her face. If I could, I would rather you never appeared in Jiangnan City, never appeared around Wan’er."
"Your appearance made the Bai Wan’er I know become very unfamiliar. She used to be so aloof, almost never getting close to any guys, but with you? She is always concerned about you, for your studies, for your life. Even if she chose the wrong way to communicate, it was all because she cared about you!"
"But you kept ignoring her, no matter what she did, you always showed her that cold attitude. Do you know how much it hurt her inside?"
"Before your showdown with Long Yun, she had no idea about your identity or your incredible abilities, yet she kept rejecting the courtship of a young genius, Jian Chen, just hoping to get a little closer to you."
"And you? Instead of boasting your capabilities, you kept them hidden, always pretending to be a minor character, letting her worry and fret about you. Don’t you think that’s too cruel to her?"
"I understand Wan’er’s character very well. Once she falls for someone, she gives everything. That day on the boat, do you know why she didn’t tell you about the trouble she encountered? That’s because she didn’t want every help you gave her to seem like charity, coming from Aunt Fang."
An Ruoqing nearly shouted out these words, as if venting Bai Wan’er’s grievances and dissatisfaction.
Ye Qingfeng’s eyes showed slight change, he took a sip of the hot water on the table.
"Was I too much?"
Ye Qingfeng asked himself in his heart, suddenly feeling his attitude towards Bai Wan’er seemed indeed somewhat inappropriate.
He sat up, exhaled a breath.
"An Ruoqing, you dare to shout at me, you surely have some guts!"
He glanced over, scaring An Ruoqing into stepping back.
Only then did An Ruoqing realize what she had just done; she had actually shouted at someone with a terrifying presence capable of dealing with West Lake with a wave.
"Fine, sit down!" Ye Qingfeng waved his hand, signaling An Ruoqing to take a seat. She swallowed, finally letting out a breath of relief.
Ye Qingfeng got up to pour her a glass of water, then sat down opposite her, with a much less indifferent look in his eyes.
"Tell me, what trouble has she gotten into?"
Upon hearing Ye Qingfeng’s question, An Ruoqing’s face immediately showed a look of joy, then nervousness again.
"You’re only willing to help her because of Aunt Fang?"
Ye Qingfeng gently shook his head, his face showing a hint of seriousness.
"Is it so important? If I say it’s not, would you feel more at ease?"
Ye Qingfeng chuckled slightly, shaking his head.
An Ruoqing, hearing this, was delighted, then revealed the predicament Bai Wan’er was in.
"Wan’er... is engaged to Jian Chen!"
"Engaged? To the so-called young genius Jian Chen you mentioned?"
Ye Qingfeng’s eyes slightly changed; this news surprised him a bit.
"Her engagement is a good thing; you should congratulate her. Why is it considered trouble?"
An Ruoqing anxiously said, "If she was willing, I would happily congratulate her. But she was forced into it!"
"Aunt Fang’s company encountered a financial chain problem. Those partners who used to cooperate with her company were unwilling to lend a hand, and the matter is very urgent. If a solution isn’t found within a month, the company will face a complete collapse crisis."
"Furthermore, Uncle Bai Gang is overwhelmed with government affairs and can’t manage anything."
"The Cangqiong Group of Jian Chen’s family has this strength, but Jian Chen’s parents actually exploited the situation, forcing Wan’er to get engaged to Jian Chen to help Aunt Fang."
"Wan’er knows how important the company is to Aunt Fang, so she had no choice but to agree. The day she asked you to go to the West Lake, I think it was to say goodbye to you because she was about to become someone else’s fiancée. But you still treated her like that..."
An Ruoqing recounted everything that happened while Ye Qingfeng was away.
"So that’s what happened!"
He didn’t expect so many things to have happened in just a few months since he left Jiangnan City.
It seemed Fang Meilian and Bai Wan’er didn’t tell him about this because they felt he couldn’t help and didn’t want to burden him.
"Even though before this, I always thought Jian Chen was excellent, but Wan’er doesn’t like him. I also hope she doesn’t marry someone she doesn’t like, only to marry another she doesn’t like a few years later."
An Ruoqing sighed deeply.
