Chapter 213: Transfer
Lady Slave trembled. "What do you want? What do you want to do? If you do anything funny it will be transferred to you! And there is no way to break the binding!"
Vacuse ignored her.
He leaned forward; with casual efficiency, he snapped one of her fingers, the smallest one.
The reaction was instant. She flinched and cried out, jerking her hand to her chest and trying to struggle away from where he was. "You bastard! I have always known you are a sick bastard!"
Vacuse ignored her again. His head tilted to the side as if he was waiting for something, and sure enough he felt a flash of heat in one of his fingers, the smallest one.
It was followed by an incredible amount of pain that made him grunt as he lost control of his smallest right finger.
’..fuck...this is going to be difficult...’ he thought as he looked at his finger that hung limply.
On the ground, Lady Slave healed her finger quickly and flashed a hesitant smile. "Are you going to let me go now? You can’t really kill me, right?"
And yet again, Vacuse ignored her.
He narrowed his eyes and concentrated on the space in front of him. Soon, something appeared. It was a red, throbbing, thick thread that connected him to Lady Slave.
Vacuse raised his hand and his umbrella appeared. He then used a strand of void energy, the severance. He brought his umbrella down at the connection but nothing happened, not even when he used all his strength.
Vacuse scowled. But it was not entirely true, because something did happen.
When he struck the connection, Lady Slave gasped and then let out a blood-freezing shriek of pain. She thrashed on the ground, folding on herself as she grasped her chest.
It appeared that when he struck the connection, an incredible amount of pain was forced into her mind; the backlash of striking the binding connection bounded on her.
Surprisingly, Vacuse did not feel anything.
His eyes lit up when he realized that. "Would you look at that. It seems the pain is mental and you are the only one that can feel it. I wonder..."
Vacuse raised his umbrella.
When Lady Slave saw this she whimpered, and her eyes flew wide with horror. "Wait....!!"
He struck the connection without mercy.
She rolled on the ground, screaming her head off while Vacuse watched with satisfaction. He could not kill her for now or wound her too terribly, so he derived great pleasure in seeing her feel the pain of what he wanted to do to her.
But eventually he stopped, since it did not feel the same as taking her head from her shoulder.
She lay there, whimpering and gaping, covered in sweat. Her blood armor and sword were long gone.
"Tell me, how do we break the binding again?" he asked her.
But she did not answer immediately, so he summoned his umbrella and the connection again.
"I’ll talk! The binding can be broken only by my mentor and she’s in Umbracrypt. If we go there then she’ll break it for us."
Vacuse gave her a flat look. "Yes, sure. Your mentor will just break it for us and even pat me on the shoulder while she’s at it, right? I’m not a fool. How much distance can we keep between each other?"
She hesitated and then picked herself up from the ground. "I don’t know, this is my first time using it as well."
Vacuse’s face became expressionless, but inside he was raging. For a person that had valued his own life too much, what Lady Slave did was like a cruel fate. As if fate was playing a joke on him.
Now he did not only have to preserve his own life but also hers? For Vacuse, who had always been selfish and would not hesitate to sacrifice everyone beside him if it would preserve his own life, he could not think of a much worse dilemma.
He looked at her and his eyes darkened, the red in his eyes taking a deeper color. "How far away is Umbracrypt?"
He just had to think of a way to break the binding while his own life remained preserved. It should be easy. Very easy.
’...like everything else in my life....so easy...’ he could not help but think bitterly to himself.
"Not far. If we have a good mount then it shouldn’t take us more than half a month."
Vacuse’s expression became even more gloomy and then he blinked. "Half a month. Then the monster above must be really impressive to attack that far."
It reminded Vacuse of the War Artifact he used as well.
"Isn’t it? To cross that distance in what appears to be a blink! Truly the Eboncrypt had outdone themselves with this. Although everyone has their instruments of way, none are made of actual monsters like this!"
Vacuse looked at her. "Do you know how to kill it?"
That bastard of a monster had tried and nearly succeeded in killing Vacuse and even dared to trap him in a boring dream. How could that dream represent his desire?
Lady Slave froze and her smile became strained. "What are you talking about? Kill that monster? Why would you want to do something like that?"
Vacuse shrugged. "It tried to kill me first. Anyway, do you know how to kill it? If you don’t then you better start thinking of one. I’m going to kill that monster, and don’t forget that the binding runs both ways. You don’t want to die, do you?"
As if to prove his point, while still maintaining eye contact with her, he raised his right hand and gripped his left smallest finger, snapping it with ease.
Some seconds later, Lady Slave shuddered and then flinched, gritting her teeth as pain flared in her left smallest finger.
Vacuse grinned as his finger healed. "I say again, you really don’t want to die, do you? Imagine if the monster kills me when trying to fight it because you can’t think of a way to kill it."
