Chapter 526 The Name of Shadow Kill!
The thieves were still waiting for an opportunity, hoping to strike when Nie Yan encountered a boss or some other monster. Little did they know, they were walking on the edge of a death trap, and Nie Yan had already noticed them.
"Keep an eye on him, but don't get too close. Maintain your distance. Who knows how much perception Mad Rogue Nie Yan has? Stay at least twenty yards away!" Dark Wing said in the team chat.
"Don't worry, Dark Wing, we've got this," a thief replied.
Dark Wing pulled a gray scroll from his bag—a Soul Binding Scroll. Using this scroll would restrain an enemy, preventing them from running more than two hundred yards away or using skills like Return. The effect lasted for three minutes and applied to both the caster and the target, ending only when one of them died.
The Soul Binding Scroll was similar to the Shadow Priest's War Shackles, but the scroll was slightly more potent.
Soul Binding Scrolls were still quite rare. They only had a drop rate of nearly one in twenty thousand in the Soul Palace, a level 70 map in Moonshine City. Other maps had even lower drop rates. There were only a handful in the entire game.
Dark Wing had farmed the Soul Palace for a long time and only managed to get one Soul Binding Scroll, but he didn't hesitate to use it on Nie Yan.
"Mad Rogue Nie Yan, let's see where you run now," Dark Wing thought, his eyes locked on Nie Yan's back. His only concern was the four Demon Forging Iron Golems and the Golden Land Dragon by Nie Yan's side. He needed to wait for the right moment to strike.
Just then, Nie Yan suddenly entered Stealth and vanished from their sight.
"Where did Mad Rogue Nie Yan go?" Dark Wing asked, startled.
"I don't know. He disappeared. Maybe he went ahead to scout," another thief replied.
Hearing this, Dark Wing relaxed slightly, but a sense of unease lingered in his mind.
Nie Yan, concealed by Stealth, circled around behind the group of thieves, hiding in a corner. He whispered, "Eye of Truth!"
Two red beams shot from Nie Yan's eyes, scanning the surroundings. Faint figures appeared beside several demon statues nearby—one, two, three...
Nie Yan pinpointed the locations of over twenty thieves. Could there be others lurking in the shadows? He couldn't be sure. Finding this many was already a good start.
Using the concealment provided by Stealth, Nie Yan crept up on one of the thieves and landed a Sap on the back of his head, followed by a Garrote, ending his life.
"It's Mad Rogue Nie Yan!"
"He's behind us!"
The thieves cried out in alarm. They had been tracking Nie Yan from behind, never imagining that he would turn around and ambush them.
In the distance, Nie Yan's four Demon Forging Iron Golems suddenly turned around, roaring furiously like four giant beasts as they charged toward the thieves from the Lawless Alliance and Holy Empire.
The Golden Land Dragon roared and suddenly unleashed a stream of Dragon Breath. The scorching flames streaked across the sky, engulfing three stealthed thieves, instantly turning them into white light before they could even scream.
"We've been discovered!" Dark Wing exclaimed. He couldn't understand how they had been found from so far away. But they had no time to think. The Demon Forging Iron Golems were already upon them.
"What do we do, Dark Wing?" a thief asked anxiously.
"Run!"
No sooner had Dark Wing spoken than two Demon Forging Iron Golems flanked them from both sides, swinging their massive iron hammers down from the sky.
"You want to take me down? Not so easy!" Seeing one of the Demon Forging Iron Golem's hammers falling from above, Dark Wing used Gale Steps to dodge the attack. He had only taken a few steps when the other Demon Forging Iron Golem's hammer came crashing down, slamming into him and sending him flying.
Dark Wing crashed to the ground, followed by a stream of Dragon Breath that engulfed him in scorching flames. He didn't even have a chance to use the Soul Binding Scroll.
"Dark Wing!"
"Dark Wing!"
The thieves looked at each other in disbelief. They never expected their skilled leader to be taken down so easily.
Nie Yan, controlling the Demon Forging Iron Golems from a distance, raised an eyebrow. The guy he just killed had decent reactions, using Gale Steps with considerable skill. But trying to snipe him was simply overestimating himself.
With a thud, a Demon Forging Iron Golem slammed its hammer into a thief, sending him flying. Thud, thud, thud! Dull thuds echoed in the distance as one thief after another was smashed into the ground.
The Lawless Alliance and Holy Empire thieves scattered in panic, fleeing from the Demon Forging Iron Golems.
Just then, Nie Yan used an Advanced Entangling Vine. After completing the incantation, green vines sprouted from the ground, binding more than ten thieves and immobilizing them. The Golden Land Dragon summoned a Meteor Fall that crashed down from the sky with a deafening explosion, engulfing the thieves in flames.
"Sending trash like this to deal with me? Crazy Mage and Holy Flame are too naive," Nie Yan sneered. He surveyed the surroundings. The thieves who had been hiding in the corners, unnoticed by him, were now fleeing in all directions. The Lawless Alliance and Holy Empire had sent about thirty thieves in total, and he had already taken out more than twenty, leaving just over ten running for their lives.
These thieves now realized how laughable their theory was—that their numbers and teamwork would be enough to take down Nie Yan.
Chivalrous Flame and Sky Execution, who had been observing from a hidden corner, both gasped.
"Chivalrous Flame, are we sure we want to mess with Mad Rogue Nie Yan?" Sky Execution asked, feeling a chill. They were going to fight Mad Rogue Nie Yan? Wasn't that suicidal? The guy had wiped out over twenty people in the blink of an eye. It was a complete massacre!
Chivalrous Flame was also shocked by Nie Yan's strength. He said in the team chat, "I'm messaging the guild leader. Let's wait for their orders."
"Send the video we recorded to the guild leader," Sky Execution suggested. Once the guild leader saw the video, they would understand the situation. Mad Rogue Nie Yan was simply too much for them to handle.
"Okay," Chivalrous Flame nodded. After a moment, he checked his private messages and said in the team chat, "The guild leader has given us instructions. We're abandoning this mission. Two of us will stay behind to continue tracking Mad Rogue Nie Yan!"
Hearing this, the other seven thieves breathed a sigh of relief. Trying to snipe Mad Rogue Nie Yan was an impossible task!
Apart from Sky Execution and Chivalrous Flame, the other thieves turned back the way they came. Sky Execution and Chivalrous Flame stayed behind to see how Nie Yan would end the battle. They kept their distance at over fifty yards, not daring to get too close.
Seeing several thieves about to escape, Nie Yan pulled out a Web Scroll, hoping to take out one or two more.
Just as he was chanting the spell, a sudden surge of elemental energy filled the air. The shadows around him turned into tentacles, engulfing him.
Shadow Shackles!
Nie Yan was shocked and quickly stopped the scroll incantation. He was about to use Gale Steps to dodge when his body suddenly froze, unable to move.
He was locked down!
Just then, a figure darted out of the darkness toward Nie Yan, a dagger flashing with cold light.
As Nie Yan turned his head, he caught a glimpse of the person—Shadow Killer, who had been missing for some time!
A thought flashed through Nie Yan's mind. The thirty or so thieves were so weak. There was no way the Lawless Alliance and Holy Empire expected them to take him down. The leaders of those guilds weren't that stupid. The only explanation was that these thieves were just bait, cannon fodder to draw his attention. Shadow Killer, hidden in the corner, had seized the opportunity to strike while Nie Yan was distracted.
Shadow Killer's speed was astonishing.
This was an assassin!
Assassins were all about the one-hit kill!
The moment Nie Yan was locked down, the surrounding shadows turned into ropes, binding him tightly. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't break free. The lockdown prevented Nie Yan from moving, while the Shadow Shackles completely immobilized him, preventing him from using any active skills.
Shadow Killer used Charge to suddenly vanish from his spot, appearing in front of Nie Yan in an instant, his dagger raised high, ready to plunge into the back of Nie Yan's head.
Sap!
Time seemed to slow down. Nie Yan had no way to avoid the attack. Most of his skills were unusable, and Shadow Killer's appearance was too sudden. He had no time to think. A chilling aura of death radiated from behind him.
From his appearance to his arrival at Nie Yan's side, Shadow Killer had executed his skills in rapid succession, without a single pause. Shadow Killer knew that against a master like Nie Yan, even a second of reaction time could create many variables. He had to be fast, faster, and even faster! Only speed could break through any defense!
"Die, Mad Rogue Nie Yan!" Shadow Killer's pupils constricted into slits, and his killing intent exploded.
He wanted Nie Yan to die!
Shadow Killer had simulated countless encounters with Nie Yan in his mind, studying Nie Yan's skills, habits, and attack patterns, preparing meticulously for this very moment. He had eliminated all possible variables, striving for perfection and flawlessness.
He was a killer, an assassin. No matter the method, killing his opponent meant victory!
The undefeated myth of Mad Rogue Nie Yan would end here, in the name of the assassin, Shadow Killer!
This strike would be hailed as a classic by countless people!
