Chapter 39 Nan Shui Town Anomalous Phenomenon

Yu Daohang lay in his rocking chair as usual. Unlike his habit of closing his eyes to rest, he couldn't sleep at all that night.

The dark night slowly passed.

In the early morning, a ray of sunlight shone into the shop. Due to staying up late for a long time, the sunlight fell on Yu Daohang's face, making his already pale and sickly face even more pronounced.

Yu Daohang felt the slight warmth from the sunlight, and sleepiness washed over him, his eyelids beginning to droop.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

Yu Daohang took out his phone and opened it. It was Biao Tao calling.

He pressed the answer button, and Biao Tao's voice came through: "Master Yu, have you heard? There's a celestial phenomenon above Nan Shui Town."

Yu Daohang yawned and asked, "What phenomenon?"

Biao Tao paused on the other end of the phone and said, "It's been snowing heavily in Nan Shui Town since yesterday."

Yu Daohang frowned. How could it suddenly snow heavily in the middle of summer? The weather in Jiangsu was good; even in winter, it would only be a light drizzle.

"Master Yu, have you heard the saying? 'When the heavens send a great drought, disaster follows; when the heavens send heavy snow, great fortune arrives.'" Biao Tao asked from the other end of the phone.

Yu Daohang grunted.

He had indeed heard the saying, "When the heavens send a great drought, disaster follows; when the heavens send heavy snow, great fortune arrives."

It meant that if the heavens suddenly became dry, it indicated a great disaster was coming, and if heavy snow suddenly fell, it meant opportunities and good things were coming.

Biao Tao chuckled on the other end of the phone: "Doesn't Master Yu want to go and see?"

Yu Daohang knew immediately that Biao Tao must have something to ask of him.

As expected, Biao Tao continued on the phone, "Actually, I wanted to ask Master Yu for a small favor this time."

Yu Daohang had already guessed that Biao Tao would say this and asked, "Tell me, what favor?"

"The higher-ups are sending geologists to Nan Shui Town for an investigation. You know that many people from the martial world will be vying for such an opportunity. I'm afraid something unexpected might happen, so I want to ask you to be a bodyguard," Biao Tao said.

Yu Daohang refused without hesitation: "Sorry, you'd better find someone else for this. Please find another expert." With that, he hung up the phone.

Biao Tao, after all, was the head of the Jiangsu Provincial Supernatural Bureau and knew no fewer people in the martial world than anyone else. It was just that his prices were a bit steep, and he clearly wanted to take advantage of him.

In this era, it was not like in the past. More and more people in this line of work were struggling, and most had switched to legitimate businesses.

After hanging up the phone, Yu Daohang had just closed his eyes when he suddenly remembered something. General Huo had asked him to find a female ghost, and there had been no progress yet.

Three years ago, a policy was introduced: any malevolent ghost caught could be handed over to the Supernatural Bureau for money.

Biao Tao was the head of the Jiangsu Provincial Supernatural Bureau. He could make a call to him and ask him to help check if any had been caught, while he continued his own search.

Thinking of this, Yu Daohang took out his phone and dialed. The call was quickly answered.

Biao Tao's voice came through: "Master Yu, have you changed your mind?"

Yu Daohang gave an embarrassed smile: "It just so happens that I'm also interested in this opportunity. I'll take this job."

"Master Yu, you weren't interested in this opportunity just now, why are you suddenly interested?" Biao Tao asked from the other end of the phone.

Yu Daohang coughed dryly and said, "I've suddenly become interested."

Biao Tao on the other end didn't ask further and directly said, "The geologist will come to the shop tomorrow morning. You can discuss it then."

Yu Daohang grunted and said, "Help me check if your Supernatural Bureau has received a female ghost with her hand chained."

Biao Tao, sitting in his office, frowned and asked, "Master Yu, why are you looking for a female ghost?"

Yu Daohang didn't reveal the reason and perfunctorily said, "It's just a small matter. Help me check."

Biao Tao on the other end was silent for a long time before saying, "Alright."

After hanging up the phone, Biao Tao looked at a picture and some text displayed on his computer screen, falling into deep thought.

Yu Daohang woke up groggily, unsure how long he had slept. The shop had grown dark. He took out his phone and saw it was almost seven in the evening.

He opened the shop door, and the last ray of sunlight shone in. Yu Daohang, still groggy from sleep, squinted his eyes in the sunlight.

A faded white t-shirt, a pair of baggy shorts, and a pair of flip-flops – this was Yu Daohang's signature attire.

There were very few people on the old street. After midnight, you could barely see anyone. It was rumored that ghosts appeared on the old street after midnight, along with the cries of children, adding another layer of mystery to the ancient street.

However, Yu Daohang didn't care about any of this. The only trouble was that if he wanted to eat, he had to walk out of the old street to find food.

He walked out of the old street and stopped in front of a small restaurant, then went inside.

"Boss, one plate of stir-fried pork with scallions, one plate of stir-fried green peppers and potatoes, one bowl of cucumber and egg soup, and two bowls of rice."

"Okay, please have a seat inside."

Yu Daohang found a seat a little further inside.

The small restaurant wasn't crowded, and there were no signature dishes; they were mostly home-style dishes.

Soon, the dishes were served.

Yu Daohang looked at the food on the table. He hadn't eaten all day and was indeed hungry. He picked up a piece of meat and put it in his mouth.

Suddenly, a voice came over: "Boss, one bowl of rice."
