Chapter 53 The Calm Before the Great Battle

The conflicts in the spiritual world are commonplace; whoever has the strength sets the rules.

After finishing his meal, Yu Daohen went upstairs to rest. Tomorrow was the day the treasure would appear, and he had to prepare tonight.

Back in his room, Yu Daohen sat on the sofa and meditated as usual.

It wasn't until four in the morning, seeing no unusual activity, that Yu Daohen stood up, stretched, and lay down on the sofa to sleep.

After an unknown amount of time, Li Shiyao opened her eyes and glanced at her phone. It was already 9:25 AM.

Seeing Yu Daohen still asleep, Li Shiyao walked over and squatted beside him, observing the young man closely.

His face, still somewhat tender, bore the marks of hardship. At his age, he possessed a calmness and maturity beyond his years.

Li Shiyao reached out to touch Yu Daohen's cheek.

The instant Li Shiyao's fingers brushed against his cheek, Yu Daohen's eyes snapped open. He drew the Kanglong Jian from his waist and swung it down.

Just as the Kanglong Jian was two centimeters from Li Shiyao's head, Yu Daohen abruptly stopped.

Startled by Yu Daohen's sudden attack, Li Shiyao sat down on the floor.

Yu Daohen sheathed the Kanglong Jian and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, it was an instinctive reaction. I thought you were an enemy."

Li Shiyao shook her head. She knew Yu Daohen wouldn't harm her, but anyone would be frightened by that strike.

Yu Daohen sat on the sofa and let out a long sigh. In the past, he wouldn't have slept so soundly; he could sense someone's presence from four meters away. Perhaps the battle with the Holy Lord had drained him too much, leaving his body unable to cope.

"When do we leave?" Li Shiyao asked after a few seconds.

Yu Daohen checked his phone. It was already 9:30 AM. "Let's go eat something downstairs, then we'll depart."

After speaking, Yu Daohen began packing his things.

The two of them tidied up, went downstairs, grabbed a quick bite, and headed towards the pond from last time.

The snow-covered path was marred by messy footprints.

Yu Daohen glanced at the footprints on the ground and said to Li Shiyao beside him, "Let's go. We'll leave immediately after seeing the treasure."

Too many people coveted this treasure. If he were alone, there might not be much risk, but now, bringing a newcomer who hadn't entered this line of work, he had to be cautious.

Li Shiyao nodded. Everything that had happened on this trip was beyond her comprehension. She just needed to take photos and then leave immediately.

By the time Yu Daohen arrived, there was no one on the road; most people were already waiting at the pond.

When Yu Daohen and Li Shiyao reached the pond, everyone was already there, waiting.

Li Shiyao saw several corpses lying in the snowy slope, their blood staining the snow red. Some had their entire arms severed.

The gruesome scene terrified Li Shiyao, turning her face pale. She immediately vomited.

Seeing Yu Daohen arrive, Zhang Xiaoqiang walked over to greet him. "Master Yu, I thought you had left. Why are you so late?"

Yu Daohen didn't answer. He looked at the corpses on the ground and asked, "What happened here?"

Zhang Xiaoqiang pursed his lips. "These young men were not tight-lipped and offended the Executioner. He killed them on the spot."

As he spoke, the Executioner turned his head, a smile on his face, and nodded.

Li Shiyao, frightened, hid behind Yu Daohen.

Yu Daohen also smiled and nodded.

Seeing their exchange, Li Shiyao whispered, "He killed people. Aren't we going to call the police?"

Zhang Xiaoqiang coughed. "That guy has good ears. He heard you!"

The Executioner turned and glanced at Li Shiyao.

Li Shiyao instinctively took a step back and lowered her head, not daring to meet the Executioner's gaze.

Yu Daohen looked embarrassed and smiled.

The Executioner didn't seem to mind. He turned back to watch the situation at the pond.

Yu Daohen said to Li Shiyao behind him, "It's okay, he won't bother you."

Yu Daohen didn't blame Li Shiyao, nor was there any reason to. Any ordinary person encountering such a situation would choose to call the police.

"Do you want this treasure too?" Yu Daohen asked Zhang Xiaoqiang.

Zhang Xiaoqiang nodded, his eyes fixed on the pond. He gripped his bronze coin sword tightly. "This treasure is very important to me."

Yu Daohen sighed and said nothing. If Li Shiyao hadn't been there, he would have definitely helped.

Zhang Xiaoqiang smiled. "Master Yu, don't worry. I can handle this myself. I asked Brother Wang and the Holy Lord, and they only sent a token force. Others, out of respect for the Heavenly Master's Mansion, won't do anything to me."

Yu Daohen nodded. Wang Fubao and the Holy Lord were manageable, but there were all sorts of strange beings here. Who would care if you were from the Heavenly Master's Mansion?

Yu Daohen gave Zhang Xiaoqiang a few more instructions and then took Li Shiyao to a spot ten meters away from the pond to watch.

His mission now was to protect Li Shiyao's safety. Staying far from the pond was the safest option. From here, he could photograph the situation and, if anything went wrong, escape with Li Shiyao in time.

By noon, there was still no movement from the pond, and everyone's shoulders were covered in snow.

Li Shiyao took a compressed biscuit from her backpack and handed it to Yu Daohen. "It's noon already. Why is there no activity?"

Yu Daohen took the compressed biscuit and was about to speak when he suddenly smelled something. He turned his head towards the woods.

Seeing Yu Daohen looking seriously at the woods, Li Shiyao turned to look as well.

She saw heads emerging from the trees, looking at the crowd by the pond.

"Snakes, such big snakes!"

Li Shiyao said nervously, pointing to a spot in the snow.

Yu Daohen frowned. Logically, with Lord Liu Wu present, ordinary snake spirits would retreat far away. How dare they appear in front of Lord Liu Wu?

There was only one explanation: the value of this treasure was beyond imagination.

The people by the pond glanced at the situation in the woods. One man cursed, "Damn it, even beasts dare to come and snatch treasures."

As soon as the man finished speaking, Wang Fubao stared at him with killing intent in his eyes.

The man instantly deflated and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way."

Wang Fubao retracted his gaze.

Immortals and demons are different. Immortals rely on people's offerings and incense, while demons rely on cultivation or by devouring people's essence.

Immortals do not face heavenly tribulations, but when demons cultivate to a certain level, heaven will send down heavenly lightning as punishment.

Immortals and demons belong to the same category. Cursing demons is acceptable, but cursing beasts is not. In the Northeast, such words could offend many immortals.

Time passed quickly, and everyone kept their eyes fixed on the pond.

By four in the afternoon, there was still no movement from the pond. Li Shiyao took out two more chocolates and two boxes of egg tarts from her backpack.

Yu Daohen was somewhat surprised that Li Shiyao had packed these items.
