Chapter 456: Revised: Chapter 456 Urgent Matters
“Grandpa! It’s natural law that people get paid for their help! We’ve already paid, so why are you still doing this?” Wu Dabao angrily said.
Wu Santong turned his head and glared at him, quickly scolding, “Dabao! Don’t talk nonsense! If it weren’t for Master Zhang, would your hand be healed? Master Zhang has done so much for the Wu Family…”
Before he could finish, Wu Dabao interrupted coldly, “If it weren’t for him? If it weren’t for him, my hands wouldn’t have been ruined!”
Zhang Dadan, seeing that he still harbored resentment, felt a bit annoyed. Old man, do you not understand why your hands ended up like that?
Not only did you not repent, but you also kept blaming and hating me; you really are a hopeless case! I might have felt a bit guilty before, but now I realize it was unnecessary!
“Mr. Wu, it seems I owe you an apology! I’m truly sorry for ruining your grandson’s hands!” Zhang Dadan said coldly.
Seeing his grandson provoke Zhang Dadan again, Wu Santong was overwhelmed with worry and hesitation. He reflexively slapped Wu Dabao in the face.
Wu Dabao, being Wu Santong’s own grandson, had always been pampered. Apart from practicing martial arts, he had never been hit by his grandfather.
But today, his grandfather actually hit him for Zhang Dadan, making the spoiled Wu Dabao feel even more wronged and resentful.
He gave Zhang Dadan a vicious glare and then stormed out of the door, tears streaming down his face while Wu Santong’s heart seemed to bleed.
He wanted to chase after his grandson, but fearing Zhang Dadan’s reproach, he was left pacing anxiously like a headless chicken.
Zhang Dadan had just wanted Wu Dabao to be reprimanded, not expecting Wu Santong to actually strike him. Watching this emotional conflict between grandfather and grandson, Zhang Dadan felt a tinge of regret.
“Alright! Go chase him! Make sure nothing serious happens!” Zhang Dadan waved him off.
Upon hearing this, Wu Santong reassessed Zhang Dadan and, seeing he wasn’t being sarcastic, bowed apologetically before rushing out.
After Wu Santong left, Zhang Dadan stroked the cracks on the table and felt some regret.
Though the table wasn’t made from particularly expensive wood, it was beautifully designed and carved, surely it wasn’t cheap, right?
Just as he was lamenting, he suddenly heard a familiar voice from next door. It was Bai Jie.
She was in the private room with another girl and two young men, judging by their voices.
Zhang Dadan, though intending to distance himself from Bai Jie, felt uncomfortable knowing she was with other men.
Listening closely, he realized she was discussing business, but even if it was for work, he was still slightly annoyed.
If it’s business, why not at the company? The Bai Group has a whole office building, don’t they have a guest room?
What made him even more jealous was that the man she was talking to seemed to be an old acquaintance and kept teasing her.
Though he tried hard to detach himself from Bai Jie, he couldn’t help feeling like he was being cuckolded.
His usual impulsiveness would have driven him to confront them by now, but he was trying to distance himself from Bai Jie. Wouldn’t it be self-defeating to interrupt?
However, his eavesdropping wasn’t exactly noble either, but with an implied cover-up, he could somewhat justify it to himself.
He promised himself he would leave after ten more minutes, but ten minutes after ten minutes passed, as he finished a whole pot of tea, he still didn’t leave.
It was only when Bai Jie finished her business and was about to leave that he got up hastily, trying to leave before them.
But when he rushed out the door, he bumped into Bai Jie and her group. They stared at each other for a long time before exchanging pleasantries.
The man behind Bai Jie scrutinized Zhang Dadan and asked disdainfully, “Bai Jie, do you know this person?”
Bai Jie quickly turned and introduced him, “Uh! This is my friend, Zhang Dadan!”
Before he could speak, she introduced, “Dadan, this is our company’s partner, Wu Zhi!”
Having eavesdropped for a long time, Zhang Dadan didn’t like Wu Zhi. Hearing his odd name, he feigned confusion, “Wu Zhi? You seem educated, why such a name?”
Wu Zhi had been teased about his name since childhood, but seeing this bumpkin being so rude, he snapped:
“It’s Wu from ‘military’, and Zhi ‘wisdom’! You… You’re really uncouth! Bai Jie, where did you meet such friends? Be careful not to be deceived!”
He saw Zhang Dadan as a social climber, deliberately ingratiating himself with Bai Jie, assuming she was fed up with him.
Surprisingly, Bai Jie was not charmed by his words; instead, she was furious, “Wu Zhi, I hope you speak more politely!”
“Bai… Bai Jie, I only meant to warn you! With your family background, you might attract some ill-intentioned people!” Wu Zhi hurried to explain.
Seeing he was going too far, Bai Jie scolded, “Enough! Don’t speak about my friend that way! Please leave now!”
Seeing Bai Jie so angry, Wu Zhi was puzzled. Glaring at Zhang Dadan, he turned and went downstairs.
After Wu Zhi and his secretary left, Bai Jie told her secretary, “Xiao Ya, you should go back too!”
Secretary Xiao Ya didn’t know Zhang Dadan and was even more puzzled seeing Bai Jie defending him. But she was just a secretary and knew better than to interfere in her boss’s affairs. Giving Zhang Dadan a suspicious look, she obediently went downstairs.
Once everyone was gone, Bai Jie raised her eyebrows and asked Zhang Dadan, “Have you been avoiding me? Did I do something wrong?”
Facing her direct question, Zhang Dadan stammered, “No… No! Why would I avoid you?”
“You didn’t avoid me? Then why didn’t you reply to my WeChat messages? Why did you leave town without saying a word?” Bai Jie took a few steps forward, pushing him for answers.
As she approached, almost touching him, Zhang Dadan, fearing it might escalate, took a few steps back.
“What are you afraid of? Do I look that scary? Do you think I’ll eat you?” Bai Jie frowned as he retreated.
Zhang Dadan’s Adam’s apple bobbed unconsciously. Taking a deep breath, he replied, “I’m not avoiding you! Why should I?”
As they spoke, Bai Jie continued to press forward, forcing Zhang Dadan to step back, avoiding her touch.
But he was already at the end of the hall, with no more room to retreat, and Bai Jie took the opportunity to stop.
Just as Zhang Dadan sighed in relief, Bai Jie suddenly slammed her hand against the wall, trapping him in front of her.
Bai Jie snorted lightly, “Still say you’re not avoiding me? Why aren’t you retreating? Keep retreating?”
Forced into a corner, Zhang Dadan was flustered and angry. A grown man, how did he end up like a little bottom?
“What do you want? If someone sees us, they’ll misunderstand!” Zhang Dadan said helplessly.
