Chapter 192: Motivating them
"Undead Society?"
"What is that?"
"I’m pretty sure that Chief Faust mentioned them before, but he never explained what they were."
I told the villagers about the Undead Society the moment that this meeting started.
They were naturally confused since they had no idea what the Undead Society was, but it seemed like they knew that I had mentioned this Undead Society for a reason.
With this trust that they gave me, I said, "The Undead Society is the current authority when it comes to necromancers on the continent. It’s said that they are the ones that controls all of them...well, other than the ones that are currently in this village."
All of the villagers revealed surprised looks when they heard this, but then they looked like they had expected this.
With the name Undead Society, it wasn’t hard to guess what kind of organization this was.
Only they still looked confused why I would mention the Undead Society all of a sudden like this.
"The Undead Society will eventually attack this place and force you to fall under them since they control all of the necromancers on the continent."
"Eh?" All of the villagers were surprised and confused when they heard this.
It didn’t seem like they felt any threat from this ’Undead Society’ since they had never had any contact with them before. But it was clear that they didn’t take this ’Undead Society’ seriously since they didn’t think that they would ever reach this place.
After a moment of silence, one of the villagers said, "Is it wrong if we join them? After all, there must be a reason why the necromancers of the continent all join this one organization, right?"
The other villagers nodded in agreement to this.
I didn’t mind that they said this and that the rest of them agreed to it. In fact, I had even been waiting for them to mention this.
"Then you think that they are the same as you?"
As soon as I asked this, the villagers looked at me with surprised and slightly confused looks. But when they saw that I didn’t say anything else, their expressions slowly changed as if they were understanding what I said.
Even if they wanted to fool themselves, it wasn’t that easy.
When it seemed like they were about to say something, I suddenly said, "The things that they’ve done are things that you can’t even imagine. They clearly aren’t the same as all of you."
This time, the villagers couldn’t help deeply knitting their brows.
Once I had gotten this point across, the only thing left now was to convince them to go against the Undead Society.
To do that, I told them about what happened to me.
"The reason that I was turned into a lich in the first place was because I had been captured by the Undead Society." After I said this, there were a few looks of envy that were cast in my direction that I chose to ignore.
I continued by saying, "If it wasn’t for the fact that I was strong enough to break free of their control, then I would have become a puppet controlled by those members of the Undead Society."
"So they have the ability and knowledge to turn people into lichs?"
It felt like they were getting the wrong point from my words, but I still nodded to show that this was the case.
To my surprise, it seemed that quite a few villagers reacted to this.
It didn’t seem like this was a bad reaction, it seemed like they wanted to take this knowledge from them...
Seeing this, I thought about coming at this from a different angle.
"Other than this knowledge, they also have knowledge of different necromancy spells. There are spells that even I’ve never heard of before."
"Really?" As expected, the villagers were very excited when they heard this.
It was as if they didn’t care if their lives were in danger, they were just excited by the prospect of being able to obtain new knowledge related to necromancy.
No matter how I saw it, it always surprised me how devoted they were to necromancy.
Since that was the case, I went on to describe how the Undead Society was a group that had existed on the continent for several hundred years now.
Hearing this, the eyes of the villagers all lit up.
They knew that if this kind of organization had been able to exist for this long, there was no doubt that they had accumulated quite a bit of power. But the more important thing to the villagers was the amount of knowledge that they would have accumulated.
This was the thing that excited them the most.
"Of course if they come for our village, we won’t go down without a fight."
Once they heard all of this, this was the tone that they took.
I couldn’t help feeling a bit bitter about this since they clearly had the wrong motivation, but it didn’t matter right now. As long as they were motivated to fight against the Undead Society, that was all that mattered.
As long as I was here, it wasn’t as if I would allow them to do anything to this village since this was the place that I had chosen to develop my power.
And the first step to doing that was to...
"Since everyone has agreed to fight with the Undead Society, there’s something that I want to say."
All of the villagers were surprised to hear me say this, but then they looked at me with serious looks as they waited to hear what I was going to say. From the expressions on their faces, I could tell that there was another reason why they were looking at me like this.
Only what I said wasn’t what they had expected to hear.
"I want to build up our forces and the best way to do that is to attack the surrounding villages and towns to gather more material for our undead."
