Chapter 206: A slime’s life (9)

"Please wait! Will you become our chief?"

The kobolds all seemed shocked to hear this and it seemed like they didn’t agree with the person that said this.

However, none of them actually dared to stop this person since it was the kobold that I saved that had made this proposal.

They were afraid that if they stopped this kobold, then they would be offending me.

I didn’t get angry when I heard this, rather I looked amused.

With a smile, I asked the kobold, "Do you think that this is a good idea? It’s clear that the others of your tribe don’t think so."

"We’re too weak to survive in this place all on our own, this experience was more than enough to prove this. Just a single group of goblins were enough to do this to our village. What do you think will happen if a stronger group of monsters attack us?"

This question wasn’t actually for me, but rather for the rest of the kobolds.

When they heard this question, there really wasn’t anything that they could say since they knew that this kobold was correct.

After a long silence, the kobold who seemed to be the leader said, "Daughter, do you really think that this is the best choice?"

As he said this, I could see the wary look that he cast in my direction.

It was clear that he didn’t trust that I would take care of their tribe if I did become the chief.

However, I didn’t say anything.

After all, this was something that they had to decide on their own as a tribe.

I already had the idea of taking over a group of monsters since my plan was to become the king of monsters. To do that, I would have to start taking monsters under me to build that kingdom.

Though these kobolds certainly wouldn’t have been my first choice.

But if they were willing to offer themselves to me, there was no reason to reject them.

Still, it was all about what these kobolds would decide.

There was nothing to gain from taking in people that would be unwilling to follow me.

"He saved me for no reason, I believe that he is someone that would abandon us." The female kobold said in a firm tone.

Hearing this, the other kobolds started looking at me differently.

As for me, I was looking at the female kobold who I didn’t know was female until now.

The kobold were humanoid dog creatures that had fur that covered their body. This female one was even small enough that she seemed no different from a medium sized dog.

So I had no idea that she was female just based on her figure.

In fact, it was hard for me to tell what most of the kobolds were since they were small enough that their fur hid their figures.

After a long silence, the leader of the kobolds finally said, "Since you trust him, then I trust him as well."

The other kobolds seemed to have some objections towards this, but then they stopped.

The way that they were looking at me was as if they were thinking about what happened before. It was a complicated look towards the power that I had demonstrated when I took down the goblins.

After a while, it seemed like they finally agreed with the leader’s decision to bring the tribe under me.

Since no one had an objection, I said, "Alright, I’m willing to become your chief. However, there is someone else that I have to bring here and it will take me a while. Just prepare yourselves when I bring them back."

The kobolds all looked at me with a strange look when they heard this, but they nodded to show that they understood.

As a reward, I waved my hand and brought out a ton of materials that I had gathered during this period of time.

I knew that I would have to build a village or even a town eventually, so I had already been collecting materials to do it with. This was the perfect time to use these resources since the kobolds had to repair their village anyway.

This could be considered a reward for coming under me.

The kobolds were all shocked to see these materials being dropped in the middle of the village.

"This is a reward for choosing to follow me. Use these things to repair the village and build more defenses. I’ll give you more instructions when I come back."

All of the kobolds once again nodded, but there was more energy in their actions this time.

They were finally starting to see hope that they would be able to rebuild their village after all.

Seeing them like this, I couldn’t help thinking to myself, "How will they act when they see me bring back a dragon?"

...

The reaction that they had was...

"Ah..."

All they could do was give this one cry before collapsing on the ground unconscious.

The fear of meeting a dragon head on was enough to knock them out in one go.

"Are you sure that you want to take over this place? It doesn’t seem like they have anything to offer at all." Iris couldn’t help saying as she looked down at all of the kobolds that had fainted.

I just smiled as I saw this.

The other reason that I was smiling was because I could see the things that the kobold had done while I was away.

The kobolds had already started fixing the village and the craftsmanship that they had...

They had been previously restrained by the materials that they had and they couldn’t make what they wanted to make. Now that they weren’t restrained anymore because the items that I brought them were all high grade items...

"Trust me, they’ll work out fine. Let’s have them build you a few things and then we’ll talk about whether they make good subordinates or not."
