Chapter 222: Linked to you

Chapter 222: Linked to you

"Well? Have you found anything about this altar?"

"If you’re in such a rush, you can do it yourself." Faust snapped at me when I asked this.

With a wry smile, I backed off and waited to hear what he had to say.

Though it wasn’t as if I could wait for that long.

Adventurers were free for the most part, but it wasn’t as if they could just disappear for a long period of time without raising suspicion.

If they disappeared for a long time, then it would only be natural that people would start to be suspicious.

It wouldn’t matter for normal adventurers, but I didn’t have that status anymore after everything that happened. I was even on some sort of watchlist because I could be considered a troublemaker.

It would be fine for a short period of time since I had taken a mission before coming out which I easily finished, but this didn’t mean that I would be able to remain out here forever.

With the way that Faust was looking at this thing, it really didn’t seem like he was about to finish any time soon.

It would have been easy for us just to use our shared senses to talk, but I had to stay here to see if we could run some tests on this with another avatar.

Finally in the end, Faust said, "It seems to be linked to something."

"Linked to something?" I asked in a confused voice before coming forward to take a look at the array that he had exposed.

With him doing all of the hard work of taking it apart, it was easy for me to see what he was talking about.

"Is it linked to the demon king title?"

Faust gave a small nod before he came back over to start doing something to the array that had been exposed.

He tapped a few parts of the array with mana on his fingers before saying, "If we manipulate this, it should be easy to change the link to something other than the demon king title."

"But it takes something like the demon king title to pinpoint something, so how will we be able to get it to link to the rest of us."

"Well it’s easy for the hero, but you’re right that it’ll be hard for the rest of us." Faust said with a nod.

Though he confirmed this, I knew that there was more to this that he wasn’t saying, so I just narrowed my eyes to look at him.

In the end, he finally said, "That’s why all we have to do is piggyback off of this."

I looked at him with a confused look when I heard this.

There was a part of me that even thought that he was crazy for saying something like this, though that was indirectly insulting myself since we were the same person.

After a pause, Faust finally explained what he was thinking.

What he wanted to do was actually quite simple, but it was also something that could only be done by us avatars who shared the same stats.

"Take the demon king and add a lich to it, then it’ll refer to me. Take the demon king and add barbarian to it, then it’ll refer to Conan. It’s actually quite simple."

He made it sound simple, but this kind of magic wasn’t that simple at all.

It was only something that could be done by someone that had mastered quite a few basics of magic. Only those that had this kind of magic foundation would be able to figure out this array in the first place.

It was only something that a lich that combined the knowledge of several avatars could do.

Still, this meant that we would be able to use the array for our own purposes.

The only problem was...

"What about the sacrifice? Do we need to sacrifice blood to activate this thing?"

Faust just gave a snort before saying, "That kind of problem is very easy to solve, but it’s not that big of a problem." After a pause, he did add, "I have to admit though that the part of the array that converts life energy to mana really is something that I can’t replicate. It’s something that’s very powerful, so it has to be some kind of ancient magic."

Ancient magic...

Even when this world was still a game, this was something that had been quite high level.

As the name suggested, it was magic from ancient times that was lost to the current modern age.

Whenever things like this come up, it would always be that the past people were much more advanced than the current people. That was just how it was premised in most games since that was the stereotype in these situations.

Once Faust was done praising this, he added, "It’s easy for me to add in a mana stone conversion part to this array so we can accomplish this with mana stones, but it’ll take a decent amount of mana."

"With a lich like you creating the mana stones, is there really anything to worry about?"

Faust just gave a snort without responding.

Instead, he went over to the side where he had a table set up and waved his hand for me to come over.

When I did, I found that he had already set up something for me to take away.

It was a mini altar that already had a separate array prepared.

"If you had all of this, why didn’t you just tell me?" I couldn’t help asking with my eyes twitching.

"If you want to know, just share our memories." Faust said without a care before lifting up the altar and placing it in my hands. After putting this altar in my hands, he waved his hand at me before saying, "You can go now."

It really felt like he was messing with me, but there wasn’t anything that I could do right now.

So with this array, I left the wilderness.

But on my way back, I did test something with this altar.
