Chapter 303: Chapter 301 The Missing Nanny
Jian Xi thought it over and decided, "Big Brother, give him a share of Jian Group’s stock. Take it from my shares and give it to him."
"Xixi, what are you doing?" Jian Mingcheng was rather stunned by her bold move.
Jian Xi spoke firmly, "To retain such talent, we must invest effort and demonstrate tangible action and sincerity. Mere promises and money are insufficient to sustain the relationship. Giving him shares aligns our interests—we prosper together and suffer together. Before making any decisions, he’ll have to consider us, won’t he?"
Upon careful consideration, Jian Mingcheng conceded that Jian Xi had a point and agreed.
"Those shares aren’t yours to simply give away." Jian Mingcheng wouldn’t allow her to manage this.
Jian Xi guessed he would use his own shares.
Although she felt a little helpless, she had to accept it. Her big brother doted on her so much, after all!
It was truly wonderful to have such a brother; there was nothing she could do about his pampering!
That night, Luo You personally called Jian Xi to thank her.
"I’ve encountered many generous bosses, but very few who would dare to involve me in actual shareholding and decision-making."
Jian Xi laughed. "It’s only appropriate. After all, the future development of Jian Group will greatly depend on your support."
"Miss Jian, you’re too kind. I hear you’re resting during your pregnancy. May I ask which city you’re in currently?"
Jian Xi almost blurted out that she was in Saint Seymour. However, on second thought, she said, "I’m in a small city in Q Country."
"Is that so..." He seemed to be contemplating something.
"Alright then. If I have the chance to visit Q Country someday, I’ll treat you to a meal."
The call ended.
Jian Xi lay in bed, unable to sleep, her mind preoccupied with Luo You.
In truth, even now, Jian Xi couldn’t quite fathom what kind of person Luo You truly was.
Haohan Group had nurtured him, yet he left in a fit of anger without the slightest hesitation.
Later, when Si Yuhuan, his supposed benefactor, fell into misfortune, Luo You showed no compassion nor offered any help, which highlighted his ruthlessness.
Rumor had it he was engrossed in research and indifferent to worldly affairs. However, during their few meetings, he had proven to be a skilled conversationalist, albeit not very talkative. He was certainly no socially inept research nerd!
Now, dissatisfied with Tianyao Group’s operations and some of Fu Shengyuan’s transgressions, he had abruptly jumped ship to Jian Group.
Jian Xi was so astounded by his series of audacious moves that her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
It had to be said, exceptionally talented individuals could be incredibly willful!
And yet, everyone was invariably won over by him.
Who could complain? He was, after all, a walking, talking money-printing machine!
"Richest person, here I come!" she thought with determination.
...
Her fourth brother, Jian Sirun, paid her a personal visit.
He moved directly into the hospital room adjacent to Jian Xi’s.
Jian Xi felt this was an excessive fuss and wanted to decline.
"If I hadn’t come, Big Brother and Second Brother would have skinned me alive," Jian Sirun stated. "Besides, I’ve already resigned from my job. I can conduct pharmaceutical research anywhere, so there’s no need for you to feel uneasy." Her fourth brother was typically a man of few words, and once he spoke, his decisions were immutable, leaving no room for debate.
Jian Xi reluctantly accepted his kind gesture.
However, with Jian Sirun present, she felt an inexplicable sense of security.
As her due date approached, Jian Xi’s various medical examinations were nearing completion.
Reviewing the various indicators, Jian Sirun frowned deeply.
"Avoid overconfidence, impatience, and fatigue. Your physical constitution isn’t optimal, and carrying twins is extremely demanding. You require substantial rest. From this point forward, apart from essential sunbathing, you are not to go out."
Jian Xi obediently complied.
She wouldn’t dare disobey her fourth brother’s instructions. Otherwise, a single dose of his concoctions could render her unconscious, a risk not worth taking.
"Then, Fourth Brother, may I go back to my place to retrieve some things?"
Jian Sirun replied without a moment’s hesitation, "No."
Jian Xi was speechless.
This wasn’t recuperating abroad during pregnancy; this was imprisonment!
The unfortunate Jian Xi could only trudge back to her hospital room. Suoya, who lived locally but was a dyed-in-the-wool Beijinger, teased her, "I see it now, Miss Jian! You’re actually afraid of Fourth Master, aren’t you!" Suoya had moved to Saint Seymour for work and, having spent considerable time with Jian Xi, had begun to joke more freely.
"It can’t be helped. Fourth Brother has always been a formidable man of few words," Jian Xi retorted, though a blissful smile graced her lips.
"Since I can’t go back myself, could you please bring some of my personal items, especially the things I’ve prepared for the babies?"
During her recent rest periods, Jian Xi had made several handmade items. She hoped her children could use the small pillows she’d personally crafted for them the moment they were born. The mere thought filled her with happiness.
In this lifetime, everything had changed. She had exacted her revenge, and these two children were her unexpected, precious treasures.
From now on, they would have only a mother, no father!
A beast like Si Yuhuan was unworthy!
"No problem, I’ll head back right away."
Jian Xi waited until evening, but Suoya still hadn’t returned, and she began to grow anxious.
She made several calls to Suoya, but none were answered. Left with no alternative, Jian Xi called Zhang Yaxuan.
"What’s wrong?" Zhang Yaxuan sounded as if he had just woken up, his voice pleasantly deep and slightly muffled.
"Has Suoya returned yet?"
Zhang Yaxuan got up. "Hold on, I’ll check and call you back."
「Fifteen minutes later.」
Zhang Yaxuan called back. "I’ve checked the surveillance. She hasn’t returned."
"Oh no!"
Something must have happened.
Jian Xi’s heart leaped into her throat.
"Please help me report this to the police, and ask Hilda to use her connections. Suoya must have gotten into trouble because of me."
Si Yuhuan, that despicable, shameless scoundrel!
What exactly was he trying to do?!
Just as a frantic Jian Xi was changing her clothes, preparing to go out and search for Suoya herself, Suoya appeared.
Clutching a pile of items, she nearly collided with Jian Xi.
"Miss Jian, where are you going?"
"Suoya! Are you alright?" Jian Xi gripped her shoulders, looking her up and down.
Suoya, realizing the situation, said, "Miss Jian, I’m so sorry. Something came up at my home, and I had to go back to help. I hope you don’t mind?"
"What? You went home?" Jian Xi was exasperated.
"My phone battery died, otherwise I would have called to inform you," Suoya explained, knowing she was at fault. She lowered her head and apologized repeatedly.
Jian Xi couldn’t bring herself to scold her. "In critical moments, no matter what you’re doing, please inform me first. There’s nothing else for now. You may leave."
"Okay!" Suoya glanced back at Jian Xi several times as she left, an unreadable emotion in her eyes.
Jian Sirun, who had been watching Suoya, said nothing as he pushed open the door and entered Jian Xi’s room.
"Fourth Brother!"
Jian Xi had just ended her call with Zhang Yaxuan, informing him that Suoya was fine and the police report could be withdrawn, and expressing her thanks.
"How long do you intend to maintain this charade of being a couple?" Jian Sirun’s first words upon entering made Jian Xi freeze on the spot.
"The children are Si Yuhuan’s. You might be able to deceive other family members, but you can’t fool me."
Jian Sirun looked up at her. "Since you’ve already admitted it, don’t even think about trying to deny it."
Jian Xi gave a wry smile. "Fourth Brother, thank you for always helping me keep this secret."
"It doesn’t matter. Regardless of whose children they are, they are my nephew and niece."
Only her fourth brother could be so detached and aloof!
He never uttered a word of criticism towards her. Touched, Jian Xi’s eyes reddened like a rabbit’s.
"Your nanny’s disappearance earlier was rather suspicious," Jian Sirun stated coolly.
