Chapter 199: Chapter 197: Stay for a Few Days
Fu Shengyuan’s secretary nodded to Fu Shengyuan and said, "Miss Jian headed straight for the finance department the moment you left. The Finance Director, in his eagerness to curry favor, has already given her the financial statements for Tianyao Group from the past three years."
Fu Shengyuan nodded without surprise. "Mm."
The secretary said admiringly, "You guessed correctly, Sir. Miss Jian wasn’t here for a sincere visit."
An hour ago, he had received a notification and made preparations throughout the Tianyao Group.
Ostensibly, Fu Shengyuan had brought Jian Xi back on a whim, but in reality, arrangements had already been made in secret.
The financial statements Jian Xi was currently examining had been specifically prepared for her.
As Jian Xi was examining the financial statements, the door was suddenly kicked open with a forceful CRASH.
"Is Jian Xi here?"
A tall, sturdy middle-aged man barged in, his face radiating fierce anger. Ignoring the Finance Director’s attempts to stop him, he walked straight towards Jian Xi.
Fu Wenxiong? Jian Xi recognized him. He’s Fu Luosheng’s father, once a pivotal figure in the Fu Family. Unfortunately, when Fu Shengyuan rose to power, Fu Wenxiong was ousted. His current standing within the Fu Family is awkward; he has no real power and is essentially retired. After Fu Luosheng was disabled, he and his wife took their son abroad. I didn’t expect our paths to cross here in the finance office—enemies truly are fated to meet on a narrow road.
Jian Xi knew he wouldn’t let this go easily. She wanted the Finance Director to call security.
BANG! The door was slammed shut.
He pointed at Jian Xi and roared, "It’s all your fault, you bitch! You’ve made my son’s life a living hell! I’ll kill you!"
Fu Wenxiong’s eyes were bloodshot as he roared and lunged forward.
Jian Xi nimbly dodged, but he wasn’t an easy opponent. When his first strike missed, he grabbed the nearest folder and hurled it at her.
Although Jian Xi dodged, it grazed her scalp, sending a sharp pain through her.
Fu Wenxiong acted like a madman, wildly flailing and grappling.
Just as Jian Xi was about to be pushed to the ground, her pupils constricted, and she instinctively protected her abdomen.
"AHHHHH—IT HURTS!"
A dark shadow burst from the crowd, swiftly grabbing Fu Wenxiong by the hair and dragging him back several steps. With a powerful kick, the figure sent Fu Wenxiong flying several meters. He slammed into a desk before skidding to a halt, spitting out a mouthful of blood. When he clearly saw the man standing before him, he cowered, his head shrinking back in fear.
"Si... Si Yuhan..."
Jian Xi was stunned.
She looked up and saw Si Yuhan standing before her, dressed in a black trench coat, like a savior. He rushed over and pulled her into his protective embrace. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
When Si Yuhan heard Yan Qing report that Jian Xi had arrived at Tianyao Group, he rushed over without a second thought, ignoring the receptionist’s attempts to stop him.
That was close! he thought. If I had been just a moment later, she would have been hurt!
"I’m fine!"
Just then, the door was kicked open again. Fu Shengyuan stormed in, his brow furrowed in anger.
He glanced at Jian Xi, sheltered in Si Yuhan’s arms, then at Fu Wenxiong on the floor. His eyes narrowed, and he coldly commanded his bodyguards, "Take him to the police station for attempted murder. Third Uncle, you’ve truly become senile."
Fu Wenxiong hadn’t expected that his own family, rather than Si Yuhan, would be the one to deal with him. He burst into a torrent of curses.
"Fu Shengyuan, you traitor, siding with outsiders! You dare accuse me of attempted murder and turn against your own family! Just you wait, your end won’t be any better than mine!"
The bodyguards dragged him out.
His hoarse, abusive shouts didn’t cease until the elevator doors closed.
Jian Xi gently pushed Si Yuhan away and staggered upright.
Fu Shengyuan moved to offer support, but Si Yuhan’s piercing gaze stopped him.
"I apologize," Fu Shengyuan said to Jian Xi. "I didn’t expect this to happen. In any case, it’s my failure to protect you that led to your injury. I’m willing to take full responsibility."
Si Yuhan sneered. "There’s no need. It’s not your place to take responsibility for my woman."
Jian Xi glared at him. This man really knows how to push his luck! When did I become his woman?
In front of so many people, she said nothing, but she did offer Fu Shengyuan a slight smile.
"I came to the finance department on my own initiative. It has nothing to do with you, so there’s no need for you to take responsibility. Besides, it’s not surprising that Fu Wenxiong would seek revenge on me."
Jian Xi handed the financial report she had been reviewing back to him. "Thank you for allowing me to visit; I’ve learned a great deal. Thank you."
Si Yuhan was dissatisfied, his expression dark. "Why waste so much breath on him? Let’s go."
With that, without waiting for Fu Shengyuan’s reaction, he directly pulled Jian Xi towards the stairs.
She’s never even been this gentle with me! Fu Shengyuan thought, his cold eyes narrowing as a chilling murderous intent flashed within them. Si Yuhan, don’t get complacent! Sooner or later, Jian Xi will be mine!
He turned back to his secretary. "That financial report..."
The secretary nodded. "Rest assured, President. Miss Jian is just a lawyer. Even a professional auditor might not find anything amiss with this report."
"Not necessarily." Jian Xi has given me too many surprises; I have to be cautious.
「...」
Si Yuhan followed closely behind Jian Xi. "Hey, I just saved you. Don’t you even know how to say thank you?"
Jian Xi knitted her brows. "I didn’t ask you to save me." In truth, she was somewhat touched. This wasn’t the first time he had saved me, but one good deed couldn’t make up for everything else, she thought. Lifting her chin, she said, "Be careful with Fu Shengyuan. He’s not easy to deal with. I’ve warned you; he poached your technical staff. Watch out, or you’ll end up dead."
"So, you were worried about me today? You risked danger and entered the tiger’s den for my sake?"
"In your dreams!" Jian Xi retorted. He’s getting more and more brazen! "You’re not worthy yet. The capable should hold that position. As for research talent, you want it, and so do I."
"Does Yaowang also need research talent?" Si Yuhan shouted after her retreating figure.
Jian Xi responded with cold indifference.
She had just gotten into her car when the passenger-side door was pulled open, and Si Yuhan slid in.
Jian Xi glared at him impatiently.
Si Yuhan said, "You should try to be a bit nicer to your lifesaver."
"Get out," Jian Xi commanded coldly.
"Grandfather isn’t feeling well. Let’s go back and see him together."
Jian Xi refused. "Not going back!" Last time, he wanted to punish me for Si Junyan’s sake, and I haven’t forgotten that, she thought, pouting petulantly.
"You might have misunderstood Grandfather," Si Yuhan explained. "He was intentionally harsh to try and bring us together, wanting me to protect you..."
So, that’s how it was! No wonder Grandfather sent so many nourishing gifts to the Jian Family afterwards. I thought he’d realized he was wrong, but it turned out... A soft spot in her heart was touched once again.
Si Yuhan saw the hesitation in Jian Xi’s eyes clearly and immediately pressed his advantage. "Don’t let Grandfather’s painstaking efforts go to waste. From the very beginning, all he’s ever wanted is for the two of us to be happy together forever."
"Dream on."
Despite her words, Jian Xi still drove towards the Si Family Old Residence.
The Old Master, knowing in advance that Jian Xi was coming, quickly lay on the bed and began to groan. Housekeeper Qi, playing along, gave Si Yuhan a knowing look. "The Old Master’s health hasn’t been good recently, and he’s been constantly talking about you, Madam. Why not stay at the old residence for a few days? Keeping him company would be good; at least it might help him recover."
"This..." Jian Xi hesitated.
Si Yuhan spoke up. "Then we’ll stay for a few days. That would be good."
