Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Spending One Night Together Part I

Victoria was still unaccustomed to wearing oversized pajamas. She slowly walked out of the bathroom and approached her husband, who was sitting on the edge of the bed. Her cheeks flushed red as she stared at his dwarf-like appearance, making her reluctant to look him in the eye. She immediately looked away and stood far away from him.

"My wife, why are your cheeks red?" Matthias spontaneously walked over to his wife and touched her forehead. "You don’t have a fever. Are you cold because the water wasn’t warm enough?"

Victoria averted her eyes and felt the wall, trying to escape the awkwardness of facing her husband. "Actually, the water was already quite warm."

"But why are your cheeks still red?" A mischievous smile spread across his handsome face. "Is it because you feel like a dwarf now?"

Victoria pinched her husband’s arm with a little force. "I knew you’d make fun of me."

"Instead of you complaining so much, I want to help you dry your hair first."

Matthias led his wife to the dressing table while grabbing the hairdryer. It had been a long time since he’d served her like a queen since they’d signed the divorce papers. Furthermore, it had been a long time since he’d helped her dry her hair after a shower.

"Matthias, is it true that you’ve been having trouble sleeping?" Her right hand touched her husband’s. "You can’t lie to me. Your eyes have been unsightly. Your face has gotten thinner, too."

Matthias smiled mischievously and kissed his wife briefly on the cheek. "Now that I have you to keep me company, I’ll definitely sleep soundly tonight."

Seeing her husband so sweet today made her want to talk to him even longer before bed. It wasn’t certain they’d be able to chat to their hearts’ content tomorrow after they’d ruined their divorce proceedings.

"By the way, were you actually late to your wedding on purpose? I was actually looking everywhere for you."

Matthias moved his hands nimbly, drying his wife’s hair with a hairdryer. "Actually, I did go somewhere earlier. I handed over all the evidence I had to the police station. Then, when I returned to the party, I happened to find you earlier."

"Then, you suddenly pulled me and kissed me in the other room." Victoria felt her heart pounding as she thought about the hot kiss they had before the wedding reception started, making her body start to get hot.

"Actually, I couldn’t hold it in anymore. At least I wanted to kiss you before I risked my life."

"At first, I thought you’d be accompanying Amber to the bridal room. That’s why I visited the bridal room and had a chance to chat with her."

Matthias’s brow furrowed. "What were you two talking about? Did she provoke you again?"

Victoria took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. "As usual, she won’t let me marry you. She’s still confident that today is her day of victory."

"She’s completely insane just to marry me. She wasn’t like this before."

"But, actually, when did you realize that Amber approached you for a specific reason? And when did you start preparing for all this?"

Matthias turned off the hairdryer as soon as he felt his wife’s hair dry. He carried her slowly around the room.

"I’ve been noticing this since you two first became friends. The dress he gave you suddenly fell apart while you were wearing it, which was completely unreasonable. That’s why I went to find out for myself."

"Then, how did you know where she bought the dress?"

"When you were planning to wash that dress, I already found out secretly." Matthias patted his wife’s back rhythmically. "Not only did that incident make me suspicious, but I’ve been suspicious since she first returned to this city. What was her purpose in returning when she didn’t want to be with me before?"

"But why did you always seem to be defending her? You’re truly unpredictable! Moreover, I never thought you’d been working with Ansel all this time!"

"I think I should tell you everything so you won’t be curious anymore."

Flashback to Victoria’s hospitalization following a miscarriage. Matthias and Ansel briefly chatted outside the room, as Ansel felt guilty for failing to protect his friend from harm. Furthermore, the unexpected accident had resulted in a miscarriage.

"Ansel, may I ask for your help? Perhaps the mission I’ve been given now is more difficult than before."

"What should I do? I can help you do anything."

"I plan to divorce Victoria."

Ansel’s eyes widened. "Are you crazy?!"

Matthias quickly covered Ansel’s mouth with his hand. "Don’t scream! My wife will hear!"

"But why do you want to divorce her all of a sudden? Hasn’t your marriage always been harmonious?"

Matthias shook his head slowly. "No. Our marriage has been facing various obstacles lately. I don’t want my wife to be in any more danger. Therefore, I want to stay out of her life for a while."

Ansel rolled his eyes. "But, aren’t you thinking about how hurt your wife will be? She’ll be shocked to hear you suddenly divorce her!" He gripped his friend’s hand with a pleading expression. "Please, you should think this carefully! Don’t make Victoria feel even more guilty! She needs you right now."

"Now is the time for me to act. I want to protect my wife from all the bad people. Amber and Gianna have been trying to separate me and Victoria."

"So, now you want to take revenge on them both?"

Matthias rested his chin on his hand. "I’ll settle my revenge with Amber first. I know Amber wasn’t the one who pushed Victoria down the stairs, but she’s the killer who’s been trying to kill Victoria all along. I have the proof."

"Don’t tell me your wife was hit by an iron shelf because of her!"

Matthias nodded.

"Then I can help you, Matthias. I promise I’ll protect Victoria if you guys ever get a real divorce." He pulled a recording device from his suit pocket. "I’ve also prepared evidence that Amber once asked me to collaborate with her to get rid of your wife."

"But, I want you to keep my plans a secret from Victoria until I’m ready to tell her everything."

"Maybe I could advise her not to hate you so much. Because I’m sure she really hates you because you divorced her so suddenly."
