Vol. 1 - Chapter 408 - The Days Ahead

When HuMing boarded the ship, he never expected that the one coming to meet him would be Ye QiuXue.

Her face looked a little tired, but the moment she saw him, her whole body seemed to relax.

She reached out, slid her hand into his palm, and gripped it, resting her forehead against his shoulder.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

“Let’s try not to do anything this thrilling again,” HuMing said as he wrapped his arms around her soft frame, a deep sense of contentment welling up inside him.

Kang Xin was also standing in front of him. Seeing he was safe, she simply nodded without saying much.

“Thank you, Kang Xin. You’ve been working hard these past years.”

HuMing knew that today’s resolution owed a lot to her.

He didn’t know exactly what had happened back home, but the bloodstains on the edge of her clothes suggested she had just gone through a life-and-death struggle of her own.

The thought made his heart tighten — but at least the outcome was good.

“Han YunXi and Xia XiaoXi are waiting for you at home,” Ye QiuXue said, lifting her head with a faint smile. “Looks like you’ll have to do some explaining.”

HuMing rubbed his nose.

“That’s only right.”

No sooner had he spoken than explosions rippled through the island’s buildings.

Francis’s life’s work went up in flames along with his life.

HuMing was more than satisfied with that ending.

The island’s sudden appearance had shocked the entire world — and exposed exactly what Francis had been doing there.

As for how the people on the island would rejoin society, that was for the authorities to decide.

The Gu family erased any trace of HuMing’s involvement.

No one knew where Francis had gone, nor how the island had destroyed itself.

Just as HuMing had wanted — it was over.

……

“The weather’s so hot. Wouldn’t it be better to just stay home with the air conditioner on?”

Dressed in a white shirt, HuMing fanned himself. Beside him, Ye QiuXue was scrolling through her phone, picking shops from a list of plans.

This was the shopping trip he had promised her.

Honestly, accompanying a woman shopping was more exhausting than fighting Francis.

More than a year had passed since Francis’s death.

Without constant trouble, HuMing’s life had become relaxed and comfortable.

During that time, he had explained his relationships with the various women.

The process was… delicate. He had endured several near-death stares, but unexpectedly, none of them objected. In fact, it seemed they had silently accepted one another’s place in his life.

At last, the weight lifted from his heart.

Otherwise, he had considered disappearing for a while until everyone had mentally prepared themselves.

Truth be told, he knew his behavior was somewhat scummy — but all he wanted was to give these women a home.

After Francis’s death, HuMin had disappeared again.

According to Bai XingQi, HuMin said that with her worries gone, she was going to travel the world and relax.

Zero had also vanished.

Han YunXi had told her family about him, and although they were eager to meet him, he said he had important things to do.

A year passed without a single word from him.

The news of Xia GaoWu’s return to the Xia family had also stunned many people — after all, a “dead man” suddenly reappearing in public was hard to comprehend.

As for the rest, HuMing didn’t know much.

Oh, and there was Gu ZhaoChuan. Discovered on the island and brought aboard, his identity had been quickly confirmed.

He was now in prison, though word was that his mental state wasn’t good — always muttering the Gu family’s name.

“HuMing? HuMing!”

A sudden sharp pain in his foot brought him back to his senses — just in time to meet Ye QiuXue’s deadly glare.

“What, is that pretty girl over there so fascinating you’re about to pop your eyes out?”

Only then did HuMing realize that a woman in black stockings had just walked past.

He swallowed quietly, slid an arm around Ye QiuXue’s shoulders, and gave an awkward smile.

“How could that be? No matter how pretty, she can’t compare to you, QiuXue.”

“Heh.”

It suddenly occurred to HuMing — had Francis cursed him?

How had he gone straight from youth to marriage without experiencing the middle?

Something wasn’t right — not one bit!

Wasn’t this exactly what married life looked like?

……

“HuMing, do you think my brother will come back?” Han YunXi asked as she tidied up his clothes.

Although the household staff could handle this, she still liked to do it herself.

HuMing clipped a hairpin into her hair, pinched her cheek, and said,

“I don’t know. But I think he’s probably taken over everything Francis left behind and gone to develop it elsewhere.”

“Ah? Isn’t that dangerous?”

“Probably not. Your brother wouldn’t do anything too risky. Besides, with me here — isn’t he afraid of me?”

“But after we get married, he’ll be your brother too.”

Han YunXi blinked mischievously.

HuMing could only rub his forehead helplessly.

“It’s fine. He’ll listen to you. And once you’re happy, he’ll listen to me.”

With that, he swept her into his arms and kissed her on the bed, clothes scattering.

……

“HuMing, I’m entrusting XiaoXi to you,” Xia Gaowu said solemnly.

Even without the words, HuMing would have treated her well.

In their most dangerous moments, he had stayed by Xia XiaoXi’s side.

Seeing the sense of responsibility in HuMing, Xia Gaowu approved — even knowing he had several girlfriends.

Blushing, Xia XiaoXi squeezed HuMing’s hand under the table.

Xia Chen, watching this, could only shake his head. It seemed his sister was the impatient one.

Still, the thought of HuMing calling him “brother-in-law” made him smile.

HuMing met Xia XiaoXi’s gaze seriously — and in that moment, she was already imagining the name of their future son.

Who said a superstar couldn’t be love-struck?

She was proof.

……

Kang Xin sat quietly on the beach, gazing at the sea.

Her thoughts were simple — to pass each day peacefully.

Then, suddenly, a crooked little flower crown was placed on her head.

Given her skills, she should have sensed it — but somehow, she hadn’t.

Her body relaxed.

She turned to see HuMing sitting beside her, grinning, before shamelessly laying his head on her lap.

They stared at each other, the air tinged with ambiguity.

“Why are you out here alone? Can’t sleep?”

“A little.”

“Something on your mind?” HuMing took her calloused hand and gently traced it with his fingers.

The ticklish feeling made her want to pull away, but she didn’t.

“I feel like I’m so far behind the others,” she said softly. “QiuXue can help you with work, YunXi can manage the household, XiaoXi has her family backing you… but me? I can’t do anything.”

It was a rare moment of doubt from her.

But HuMing tightened his grip on her hand, bringing her back.

“You were the first one to know my secret.”

His light words pulled her mind back to a time long ago.

Yes — they had been the first to share secrets.

Maybe that alone made them inseparable.

“That’s… really nice, HuMing.”

“Yeah, Kang Xin. This is all really nice. Let’s see it through to the end — together.”

“Okay.”

They chatted idly, until the sound of hurried footsteps came from behind.

Turning, they saw Ye QiuXue, Han YunXi, and Xia XiaoXi running toward them.

HuMing was just wondering how they knew where he was when Kang Xin suddenly seized him and pinned him down.

“Yay! Kang Xin, you’re amazing!” Xia XiaoXi cheered.

Han YunXi’s cheeks flushed with excitement.

And Ye QiuXue?

She was already grabbing his legs, directing the others to hold his arms.

“What are you doing?” HuMing asked, startled.

But like a trussed pig, he was lifted into the air and carried toward the shore.

“Your punishment, of course — for being so two-timing!”

“That’s right! We can’t just let you get away with it!”

“Don’t worry, we’ll fish you out later.”

HuMing looked at Kang Xin — and saw the normally expressionless girl smiling from the heart.

“Kang Xin, you’re in on this?!”

“They’re right. We’re sisters.”

“Sisters? Since when?!”

Before he got an answer, they tossed him into the sea.

The girls’ laughter rang out across the shore — and days like this would continue for a long, long time.

(The End)

(TL: The ending is rushed, but glad that it at least finished.)
