The car slowly pulled into the underground parking lot.
One after another, more cars arrived—it was shift-change time, and everyone was waiting for their turn to rest.
HuMing followed behind the group, blending in as if he were one of them.
“Damn it, just for one guy, the whole city’s on lockdown,” someone grumbled.
For the people living here, laziness had long become a habit. After all, the residents in this place were no different than lab rats—they had no idea what was really happening in the outside world.
“Is the boss really that nervous over this?”
They munched on the food that had been provided, convinced the world only revolved around them. Little did they know, they’d long since been brainwashed. If they ever came into contact with the outside world again, their minds might completely collapse.
Their only job was to monitor the citizens' behavior.
Now, a rat had slipped into the cage. While some of them were surprised, none of them thought it warranted such an over-the-top reaction.
“Say what you want, but we still haven’t caught the guy. Looks like he’s no pushover.”
“Yeah, but haven’t you heard? That guy was brought here by Zero himself. If they already suspected something was wrong, why didn’t Zero just take him out from the start?”
As soon as that question was asked, the group fell silent.
Clearly, no one could figure it out either.
At that moment, HuMing—standing quietly among them—spoke up:
“Maybe Zero changed sides.”
The moment the words fell, everyone broke into a cold sweat.
Someone reached out and slapped a hand over HuMing’s mouth, afraid he’d say more.
“Bro, you trying to get us all killed? If Zero hears this, we’re screwed!”
“If you’re that scared, maybe don’t gossip in the first place.”
HuMing remained calm, eyes fixed forward as he headed toward the main building.
No one knew who he was. People here didn’t see each other every day, and it wasn’t unusual for a few new faces to show up now and then.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, HuMing stepped inside.
He needed to find Francis fast. But one thing he was sure of—coming to this place hadn’t been a coincidence.
That bastard Zero had chosen him through that so-called “selection” and brought him here. The moment he arrived, the city-wide alarm went off. That meant Francis had known.
But why hadn’t Francis acted immediately? Was he worried he wouldn’t be able to kill him—and that he might escape?
The more HuMing thought about it, the more likely that theory seemed.
He glanced around, and when no one was watching, slipped into an empty office.
The moment he entered, he locked eyes with the man sitting inside.
The man frowned, clearly displeased by the intrusion.
“Sir, I have information on the fugitive,” HuMing said calmly.
His expression didn’t change, but behind his back, his fingers moved.
The man’s gloomy expression shifted in an instant. He jumped to his feet and hurried to the door to check for eavesdroppers. Finding no one there, he shut the door with a grin.
“Quick—tell me what you know. If the info’s good, I’ll make sure you’re rewarded!”
Though he said that, in his mind he was already imagining the promotions and bonuses.
“He’s hiding in—”
HuMing’s voice was quiet. The man leaned closer and closer, eager not to miss a word.
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach.
In shock, he looked down—at some point, a fruit knife had been driven into him.
He looked back up at HuMing. In the reflection of his own eyes, he saw a face full of cold indifference.
He tried to cry out, but a hand clamped over his mouth.
And then, HuMing stabbed straight through his heart.
The man died with wide, disbelieving eyes locked on HuMing’s expressionless face.
Ignoring the corpse’s gaze, HuMing reached into his pocket and retrieved his ID badge.
“Logistics manager?”
HuMing narrowed his eyes. A new plan was already forming in his mind.
…
Half an hour later, a massive explosion rocked the ammunition storage facility.
While everyone was still stunned, alarms blared across the entire building.
The whole tower was thrown into emergency evacuation.
Unlike the others, HuMing headed straight for the special elevator.
He knew Francis wouldn’t be fazed by a surprise like this. In fact, Francis had probably already planned an escape route when designing the building—just in case it was ever invaded.
That guy was always thinking two steps ahead, and HuMing knew just how slippery he could be.
Which meant, there was only one place he’d be hiding now:
Underground.
“Still a coward after all, Francis.”
HuMing muttered under his breath, pressing the button and using the manager’s retina to pass the scan.
Meanwhile, below the elevator, soldiers had already taken position, guns trained on the shaft.
They’d received strict orders: Anyone who tried to take that elevator down was to be shot on sight.
On a nearby screen, the elevator’s progress was tracked as it descended.
The moment the doors began to open, the soldiers opened fire like a storm of fire and metal.
The barrage of bullets completely tore through the elevator, making it impossible to see what was inside.
But seconds later, something didn’t feel right.
Smoke began pouring from the elevator as soon as the doors opened.
“Gas! Masks on!” the squad leader shouted.
Just as the words left his mouth, something rolled out of the elevator.
All weapons snapped toward it—until they realized what it was.
“Flashbang!”
Before the warning could fully escape his lips, a blinding light and thunderous shockwave detonated, dropping the entire squad to their knees.
Cries of pain filled the corridor as the soldiers clutched at their blinded eyes, unable to hear their own screams.
A figure dropped silently from above the elevator.
Fully armed, HuMing raised his weapon and opened fire, cold and merciless.
Every soldier in sight fell one by one.
The screams echoed, until silence reclaimed the hall.
HuMing discarded his empty weapon and picked up a fresh rifle from the floor, walking deeper inside.
But the deeper he went, the more his expression darkened.
Along the corridor, human experiments were being conducted.
Test subjects wailed in agony. The lab resembled hell on earth.
Yet the researchers moved like nothing was wrong.
They didn’t care who lived or died. These scientists had lost their humanity—nothing more than beasts in white coats, repeating their twisted work day after day.
“As expected of Francis’s dogs.”
HuMing’s voice was low—but the sound of gunfire soon drowned it out.
Francis had spent over a decade building this hidden lab.
And HuMing had wiped it out in a single day.
Now, there was only one target left—
Francis himself.
