Chapter 677: Chapter 54: Then I’ll come in
“Aske.” Peggy closed the balcony door and turned around, her voice filled with hope as she asked,
“Can I sleep with you tonight?”
“What?” Aske was startled by her request, “Of course not.”
“But I can’t sleep tonight.” Peggy walked to his bedside, showing the aggrieved expression she had practiced for a long time in the mirror. Paired with the pretty face of a Blood Clan girl, she indeed looked pitiable.
However, Aske was utterly unmoved. To put it bluntly, if Peggy lifted the blanket, the room would probably explode tonight, so he could only firmly shake his head and say,
“I’m too tired tonight, really can’t stay with you, maybe next time. Peggy.”
“Next time?” Peggy was unexpectedly pleased. She hadn’t really expected the Squad Leader to agree to her intimate request tonight, but securing a ‘next time’ was still good.
Just as she was about to happily say something, she heard Eleanor’s voice outside:
“Squad Leader, are you there?”
Peggy: ???
Someone else has the same idea as me? Coming to find the Squad Leader in the middle of the night to bond and win his favor?
The Blood Clan girl immediately puffed up her cheeks in anger, ready to rush out and teach the shameless woman outside a lesson. However, Aske on the bed quickly laid a hand on her shoulder.
“Quick! Hide under the bed!” he whispered.
Peggy, of course, understood Aske’s concerns—the Squad Leader just cared too much about his reputation.
Since the Squad Leader didn’t want to be misunderstood, Peggy naturally wouldn’t deliberately contradict him. But instead of hiding under the dark bed… her gaze landed on the spacious bed and the blanket.
“Wait…” Before Aske could speak, the Blood Clan girl had already turned into a small white mouse and scurried into the gap in the bedclothes.
I want to snuggle up to Aske, hehehe! The little white mouse thought, bumping into a lump of flesh and cotton.
She looked up in astonishment, her gaze meeting the Enchanting Demon’s eyes.
Peggy: !!!!!!!!
The white mouse abruptly transformed back into the shapely of a girl, Peggy’s hands already conjuring the dark light of Curse Death, when suddenly Aske grabbed her wrist and twisted it severely, dissipating her Skill with her pain.
You’re actually siding with her! Peggy immediately fell into an endless state of grievance, struggling to crawl out from under the blankets.
“Let me go!” she gritted her teeth.
“Stop it!”
“Why is she in your blanket?!” Peggy angrily questioned the Squad Leader.
“The same reason as you!” Aske hissed back.
“Aske?” Outside, Eleanor knocked on the door again, and then… the door opened by itself.
…
Aske cast an angry accusing look at Peggy, who was half poking her head out from under the blanket: Couldn’t you close the door when you came in? Are you stupid?
Peggy pursed her lips and silently dove back under the blanket, lying down beside Medea.
Medea didn’t taunt her but just silently rested her head on Aske’s thigh, a playful look in her eyes. Peggy glared at her a few times, then somewhat unwillingly rested her head on Aske’s calf.
Ah, the weight of their heads is killing me. Aske held back his complaint, turned to Eleanor who had just entered, and asked with a smile,
“What’s up? Have you encountered confusion on the path to becoming stronger and need some advice?”
“Sort of,” Eleanor said distantly as she looked at him and sighed, then turned around and closed the door.
This unexpectedly moved Aske a little. To the two using my left leg as a pillow, if even one of you knew to close the door after entering the room, we wouldn’t have to awkwardly huddle up like this.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Eleanor said as she sat down on a chair beside the bed and poured a glass of water. “Do you want some?”
“No, thanks,” Aske replied.
“Mmm,” Eleanor took a sip and continued, “Well, how should I put this? I actually have a friend…”
“Did she fall for someone she shouldn’t have?” Aske asked.
Eleanor’s hand holding the glass shook suddenly. She quickly set the glass down, pretending to tidy her hair at her cheeks to hide her unease:
“Uh, not entirely,” she managed to calm herself and continued, “Actually, the man she likes doesn’t have a girlfriend currently. But her best friend also likes him. So… what do you think… she should do?”
This all but confirmed it, and Eleanor’s voice trembled slightly. Aske felt a headache coming on. He had no energy to think about how to respond—especially as Medea and Peggy under the covers had started roughhousing again.
He had to adjust his posture (pretending it was his leg moving under the sheets) while reluctantly giving a forced response:
“Actually, the issue is not with her friend but whether that man truly likes your friend. If not, then of course there’s no question; if yes, then I think your friend can fairly compete with her, as love has no precedence.”
“Is that so?” Eleanor’s voice grew more tense, and after a long pause, she added, “So, does that man like her?”
“Yes.” Aske sighed. “So the real question is, does that man like her?”
“Don’t you know?” Eleanor asked shakily.
“How would I know?” Aske played dumb.
“Okay, Aske,” Eleanor bit her lip and stood up, “Actually I…”
“Aske?” Nora’s voice came from outside the door.
Eleanor: ????!!!!!!!!
Her face shifted rapidly through an array of expressions, a tangled mix of panic, embarrassment, guilt, remorse, awkwardness, sadness, and anxiety that was almost indescribable.
“Under the bed, under the bed, under the bed!” Aske quickly said.
Eleanor hurriedly bent down, trying to squeeze under the bed—unfortunately, the space between the bed and the floor wasn’t wide enough. While it would have been just right for Peggy, Eleanor was completely stuck outside.
So, the blonde knight stood up again, violently flipped the blanket off Aske, and one foot landed on the bed.
……
She looked at Peggy and Medea lying on Aske’s legs, and for a moment, all three seemed to lose the power of speech.
“Cough cough!” Aske coughed.
“Aske, are you there?” Nora’s voice asked from outside again.
That snapped the three women back to reality. Eleanor quickly jumped onto the bed, whipping the blanket energetically over all four of them.
“Your chest is against my face, Medea!” Peggy complained under the cover as Nora hadn’t come in yet, “It’s stuffy and hot!”
“Whose leg is pressing on my stomach, it’s making me uncomfortable!” Medea grumbled irritably, “Eleanor!”
“Sorry, I can’t make my legs shorter!” Eleanor said with a cry in her voice, as her legs were too long, “They’ll stick out if I don’t curl them up!”
“Cough cough cough!” Aske had to cough desperately, trying to muffle their arguing.
However, Nora outside seemed to sense something amiss. She paused for a bit, then with her characteristic gentle tone (which inexplicably sent shivers down your spine), she said:
“Aren’t you going to answer? Then I’ll just… come… in, okay?”
