Rachel gasped, her hard-won composure vanishing instantly.
What lay on her lap was a bomb…
A bomb!
Bai Ye took out wires from the cake box, looped them around Rachel's neck, and then connected them. Next, he pulled out two more wires, wrapped them around Rachel's wrists, and carefully connected the wires.
"Miss Rachel, I don't actually mean any harm," Bai Ye said with a smile. "I just want to use this to help you test how much your boyfriend loves you."
Rachel's face turned pale. "What do you mean?"
Bai Ye smiled, took Rachel's bag, opened it, and took out her phone. He quickly found the number he wanted in the phone book and dialed it.
"Hello? Rachel, what's the matter calling me at this hour?"
A deep voice answered, completely different from the hoarse voice he'd heard last night. As expected, that voice had been processed by the machine inside the Bat-mask.
"Mr. Bruce Wayne?" Bai Ye said with a smile. "I'm Bai Ye, you should be familiar with me, right?"
On the other end of the phone, Batman was instantly shocked. He almost blurted out a question asking Bai Ye why he had Rachel's phone, but his reason held him back.
"Bai Ye?" Batman said. "I'm sorry, I think we're indeed strangers. I don't seem to know you?"
"You don't know me? That's fine too," Bai Ye said. "Because I didn't sleep well last night, I'm very angry. When I get angry, I like to give gifts to others, for example, our beautiful Miss Rachel. By the way, do you know it's her birthday today?"
Rachel looked up. "My birthday two months ago, I celebrated it with him."
"It's fine, you can celebrate it again," Bai Ye shrugged at Rachel, then continued, "Mr. Bruce, can you guess what my gift is? Here's a hint, it's the same type as the one I gave Commissioner Gordon before."
Batman clenched his fist, knowing Bai Ye was deliberately provoking him. He took a deep breath. "Sir, this joke isn't funny."
Bai Ye chuckled. "Of course, you can take this as a joke."
As Bai Ye spoke, he connected the last wire. Immediately, the bomb's electronic timer began to tick.
Bai Ye continued, "Did you hear that? It's started timing. The bomb will explode in an hour and a half."
Batman seemed extremely agitated and stood up. "Sir, do you know you're committing a crime?"
Bai Ye nodded. "I know."
This left Batman speechless. He had seen many criminals, but this was the first time he had seen one so blatant. Even the Joker liked to beautify his crimes with mad ramblings.
Bai Ye said, "I've installed a leveling device on the bomb, so normally Miss Rachel cannot leave the bomb. To disarm it, she would have to hold the bomb while it's being disarmed. If it fails, can you guess the outcome? Of course, there's a more secure, foolproof way to disarm the bomb."
Batman asked, "What do you want? For me to stop chasing you?"
"So now you admit you're the guy who was wearing tights and showing off your muscles last night?"
Bai Ye burst into laughter, then said, "I saw the Joker declaring war on you, and I found it very interesting. If you're willing to take off your mask and announce to the world that you are Batman, I guarantee that bomb won't explode. Of course, the Dark Knight is the Dark Knight because he can only operate at night. If you appear in broad daylight, you'll be challenging order. You know what that will turn into. So, take your time and consider it. You have an hour and a half."
After speaking, Bai Ye hung up the phone without waiting for Batman's reply.
"Miss Rachel," Bai Ye leaned down. "If you don't want the bomb to explode, remember not to stand up or move around carelessly. See the transparent tubes on both sides? The ones with the small balls inside, try to keep the balls in the center as much as possible, because if they touch the sides, then..."
However, Bai Ye's strength was far greater than the woman imagined, and she couldn't resist the impact.
With a bang, the woman was thrown against the elevator wall.
Bai Ye turned instantly, aiming his gun at the woman. The woman was startled and quickly grabbed Bai Ye's wrist, pushing his arm upwards.
Bang, bang, bang…
Bai Ye pulled the trigger, and blue beams of light shot out, creating bullet holes in the ceiling of the elevator. Then, the woman delivered a knee strike to Bai Ye's abdomen, but Bai Ye caught her hand.
But in that instant…
The woman suddenly opened her mouth, her tongue flicking out a blade that she had been holding in her mouth. With a sudden jerk of her head, it flew forward.
Bai Ye instinctively tilted his head. With a clang, the blade grazed his cheek and flew out, hitting the elevator door with a crisp sound.
Bai Ye grinned. "You've got quite a few tricks."
Bai Ye grabbed the woman's arm, lifted her up, and then threw her to the side.
