Chapter 507 Battle in the Sea

Jeram’s role was important, but a pilot didn't have much say. Moreover, he had only obtained his position through a mission.

“Then, whatever you do, don’t clash with the defense wall people. You can’t get into the base anyway.”

Jeram was still quite fond of Bai Ye. It would be a shame to lose such a fierce fighter.

Bai Ye said, “Got it. Go back to your work.”

After dismissing Jeram, Bai Ye found a secluded spot and rekindled the campfire to rest.

The night passed without incident.

The next morning, Bai Ye was woken by noise.

Yawning, Bai Ye opened his eyes and saw numerous aircraft flying overhead, heading towards the sea.

Bai Ye rubbed his face to clear his head, then heard his communicator buzzing incessantly.

Yawning again, Bai Ye pressed the button, and Jeram’s figure appeared. “Bai Ye, the breakthrough point has been confirmed.”

Bai Ye replied, “That’s good news.”

Jeram explained, “The base’s plan is to use ships to transport the mechs to the area above the breakthrough point. Then, I’ll descend with the cluster energy bomb and blow up the breakthrough point.”

Bai Ye nodded, “That aligns with our plan.”

Jeram continued, “The problem now is you. You definitely can’t travel by plane or ship. In the eyes of the base personnel, you’re just a civilian.”

Bai Ye stated, “It’s fine. I can go out to sea myself.”

Jeram asked, “Are you sure?”

Bai Ye affirmed, “I’m sure.”

The speed of the Chenglong wasn’t much slower than a warship, and carrying such a massive mech would inevitably reduce its speed.

Jeram added, “Oh right, the submarine explored the seabed with sonar equipment and found no signs of life.”

Bai Ye countered, “I’m certain my mission involves the presence of a ‘Du Fu’ (Poisonous Woman), and besides, haven’t you encountered this before? By the time you arrive, the Du Fu might have just appeared from the breakthrough point. Do you really think you can complete the mission by simply dropping a bomb?”

“That makes sense. Rewards aren’t that easy to come by,” Jeram mused. “Then we’ll contact each other later. The warship should depart in about an hour. The cluster bomb has already been sent over. You should see the planes.”

“Mm,” Bai Ye replied. “I’ll head out to sea now.”

The two ended their communication, and Bai Ye went to the seaside, releasing the Chenglong to set sail.

Bai Ye felt that his departure wouldn’t conflict with the fleet, but for safety’s sake, he activated his electric field.

This electric field wasn’t part of the Thunder-Thunder Fruit’s abilities but was a supplementary ability used in conjunction with his teleportation. It was a basic power that came with his lightning manipulation ability.

However, Bai Ye found this move to be incredibly useful.

Besides aiding in teleportation, it could generate electromagnetic force to deflect melee attacks from metal weapons and interfere with electronic equipment.

Bai Ye’s current objective was the latter. By covering the surroundings with the electric field, the warship’s radar would be unable to detect him.

An hour later, the fleet set sail.

The target was obvious, so Bai Ye only needed to keep a safe distance and have the Chenglong follow far behind.

The journey was longer than expected, taking about a day and a night for the fleet to reach its destination.

From the sea, everything appeared calm and peaceful, with no hint of anything unusual. However, the submarine’s detection had already pinpointed the breakthrough point.

At this moment, Jeram boarded his mech. A group of technicians began inspecting it. Since this mission required underwater operations, not close-shore combat, some of the mech’s equipment was replaced.

A submersible thruster was even specially installed.

Bai Ye didn’t approach, watching from a distance.

The massive mech was hoisted into the air. Once all its components were reinstalled, it began to slowly descend into the water.

Bai Ye wasn’t in a hurry, waiting for Jeram to enter the water first.

Meanwhile…

The mech entered the water and began to sink.

The breakthrough point of the sea beasts was located at a depth of approximately 2,500 meters, appearing as a large hole.

Jeram’s task was to drop the cluster energy bomb into this hole. The danger lay in the fact that to ensure the breakthrough point was destroyed, Jeram needed to penetrate a certain distance into it.

What would happen inside was unknown. Who knew what the interior of the breakthrough point was like? He might perish inside.

It was also possible that he might simply pass through.

If sea beasts from parallel universes could come here, then it was natural that they could also go to the other side.

However, due to Bai Ye’s information, Jeram wasn’t overthinking. If a Du Fu was guarding the area, the danger likely wouldn’t come from within the breakthrough point.

But…

Jeram glanced at the screen. There were still no life signs detected. Why?

Was Bai Ye deceiving him?

Were their missions in conflict?

Or could their missions not be combined?

Was the Du Fu exclusive to Bai Ye’s hidden mission?

As Jeram was pondering, the cockpit suddenly began to flash red, and an alarm blared.

The middle-aged man beside Jeram said, “Connect the communication, maintain neural synchronization, and slow down the descent.”

Jeram nodded and quickly established the connection.

“Life signs detected on the seabed. A sea beast has emerged from the breakthrough point. Its speed is very high. It will leave the breakthrough point in about thirty seconds and reach your location in approximately one minute and thirty seconds.”

Here it comes!

Jeram’s gaze sharpened. Bai Ye hadn’t deceived him. It was indeed not easy to enter the breakthrough point.

“Neural synchronization check, balance instrument check, power unit check, weapon bay check, armor defense system check, thermal emission system check…”

Jeram shouted loudly.

On the warship on the surface, a group of researchers manipulated the machinery, quickly calibrating the mech to enter combat readiness.

At this very moment…

The seawater was a deep black. The energy core on the mech’s chest emitted light, illuminating the surroundings slightly.

Suddenly, a massive dark shadow flashed by.

Before Jeram could react, the cockpit began to shake violently.

A colossal sea beast slammed into the mech’s back. A simple impact sent the mech plunging downward by more than ten meters.

The middle-aged man beside Jeram said, “The opponent is very fast. It’s engaging in close combat. Open the left thigh weapon bay and prepare to draw the sword!”

Two-person mech piloting required excellent coordination. Different body parts were operated by different individuals, necessitating a high synchronization rate.

But Jeram performed well. The weapon bay on his thigh ejected, and the mech drew a massive mechanical sword, slashing sideways.

Precisely as the sea beast lunged, the sword struck its neck!
