Chapter 1403: Chapter 1403: Suspecting Everyone and Everything (5)
Ye Qilan watched as Xiao Ji and Su Hongxing were “getting along like a house on fire,” even Little Pudding was siding with Xiao Ji and helping him polish his shoes. Ye Qilan felt utterly displeased, put down his bowl and chopsticks: “I’m not eating!”
Everyone’s gaze froze on Ye Qilan’s face, not knowing what had gotten into him.
Even after Ye Qilan got up and walked away, Su Hongxing was still baffled.
“Little Pudding, your dad didn’t eat breakfast. Go check on him,” Su Hongxing said, then stood up. “Forget it. You keep eating, I’ll go have a look.”
Little Pudding couldn’t be happier, burying his head and eating with enthusiasm.
Su Hongxing chased after him, Xiao Ji’s gaze followed her movements, his eyes gradually losing their sparkle. He could see that, in Su Hongxing’s heart, that man was clearly more important. But it didn’t matter – since he had come, he’d take the upper hand sooner or later.
Su Hongxing caught up to him in the garage. Ye Qilan was about to get into his car. Seeing her approach, he turned back to face her: “Why are you chasing me down?”
Wasn’t her gaze supposed to only be reserved for that drama king, Xiao Ji?
“Why are you suddenly throwing a tantrum? Skipping breakfast is bad for your stomach. Even if you’re in a bad mood, you shouldn’t sabotage your health,” Su Hongxing said, grabbing Ye Qilan’s arm. “Come on, eat breakfast first before heading to work.”
Ye Qilan followed behind Su Hongxing, watching her bouncing ponytail, his brows and eyes softened.
Suddenly, Su Hongxing turned back to look at him, and he immediately put on a stern face, pretending to be serious.
“Where exactly were you last night when I called you?” Su Hongxing asked, her gaze sharp and unwavering.
Ye Qilan didn’t want to lie to Su Hongxing, but since he’d already lied last night, coming clean now didn’t seem to mean much.
“I already told you, I was outside,” Ye Qilan said, his eyes flickering slightly.
Su Hongxing stared at Ye Qilan for a long moment, then let go of his hand and looked at him coldly: “Your flickering eyes just now? Dead giveaway – you’re lying. I genuinely thought you wouldn’t lie to me.”
If he hadn’t done anything indecent with Du Qingyu, then why lie? Even if he went to Du Qingyu’s house last night, as long as he explained, she would have believed him.
But as for him? He lied last night, and he kept up the lie today. How could he do this?
Seeing the disappointment in Su Hongxing’s expression, Ye Qilan instantly knew he was in the wrong. He wanted to explain, but the words lodged in his throat. By the time Su Hongxing hurried off, he was still rooted in place.
He was just about to chase after her when Du Qingyu’s phone call came in.
At the moment Du Qingyu’s name flashed on the screen, he really wanted to smash his phone.
But in the end, rationality won out over emotion. He picked up the call, his voice ice-cold: “What do you want?”
Du Qingyu immediately noticed his bad mood and asked curiously, “Who upset you?”
“Who else could it possibly be? Aside from my wife, do you think there’s anyone else? I really don’t understand – are all women the same, always suspecting everything? She just asked me where I was last night, I told her I was outside, and now she’s accusing me of lying and throwing a tantrum. Fine, I lied, but it was a harmless lie. If I told her the truth about what happened last night, wouldn’t it just lead to more misunderstandings…”
Ye Qilan kept rambling on, while Du Qingyu couldn’t help but laugh aloud: “Mr. Ding, I think you’re quite funny. Aren’t all women like this? If they didn’t endlessly suspect things, they wouldn’t be women. Want me to explain it to Su Hongxing for you?”
“You explaining things – wouldn’t that just make it worse?” Ye Qilan narrowed his deep eyes.
