Chapter 386: The Nature of Curses
Wen Nuan tilted her head to think. For many people, **fate and curses** are the same thing, but for her, they were different. She didn’t believe in fate, but she did believe in curses.
Dudi was quite surprised by her answer.
Typically, people who don’t believe in fate also don’t believe in curses. They usually think that they are the masters of their own destiny. As someone from the Du family, who had a deep connection to the two families of fate calculation, Dudi was taught to believe in both fate and curses.
He believed in all of it, which was why he had been waiting for his fiance for so many years.
But Wen Nuan didn’t believe in fate.
So why did she believe in curses?
Wen Nuan said, "I don’t know why. I just believe in it. There are a lot of things that can’t be explained."
Lately, she had been having a recurring dream about a bloodstained butterfly flying toward her. She couldn’t sleep soundly at night. It felt as if a disturbing sound was constantly ringing in her head, but she didn’t know what it was. She only knew that the butterfly was terrifying.
She never told Feimo about her sleepless nights, because she didn’t want him to worry. She had been feeling much better recently. For some reason, she hadn’t dreamed of the bloodstained butterfly and felt more relaxed.
Having the same terrifying dream so many times had made her believe in it a little.
"I know a family whose descendants are cursed. Do you believe in that kind of thing?" Dudi asked with a laugh, watching Wen Nuan closely, afraid of missing any expression on her face.
"What kind of curse?"
"A long time ago, a family’s heir was engaged to be married to another family’s heir before they were even born. They grew up together, but the girl’s heart changed, and she married someone else, abandoning her fiance. The fiance’s family was known for their witchcraft. After being betrayed, he used his own life to get revenge on the girl. He cursed the husbands of her family’s heirs to die before the age of 30, unless her husband was from his family," Dudi said calmly. "Because of this curse, the husbands of the family’s heirs have all died before the age of 30, unless he..."
Wen Nuan was furious. "What a cruel curse. That man was so heartless and vicious. How could he do something like that? It’s too much. He can’t just curse people who are in love because he couldn’t get what he wanted. Is that really true? Do they all really die before 30?"
"Yes," Dudi said calmly. "It has been that way for generations."
But even with the curse, the Du and Long families had always been very close. It was because of the curse that the second generation of the Du family, who cast the spell, felt like they owed the Long family. That’s why they had always looked after the Long family.
To break the curse, the two families had been looking for a solution for so many years. But it seemed that it was all destined. They always missed each other, and the curse had not been broken yet.
Otherwise, the Long family would be cursed forever, for generations to come.
"I never knew that such a curse existed in the world. It’s so cruel," Wen Nuan said with a lingering fear.
Dudi smiled faintly. *She’s a Long family member, alright.* Her reaction just now was too emotional. Wen Nuan usually took things that didn’t concern her very lightly. It was very rare for her to be so angry about something.
This also confirmed her identity.
"You believe me?"
"Why wouldn’t I?" Wen Nuan asked in return. "You’ve confirmed it. How can I not believe you?"
The feelings of someone who had been through something like this were different from someone who hadn’t.
"You believe everything I say? Maybe I’m just making up a story," Dudi said with a laugh.
Wen Nuan was stunned. "Whether it’s a story or not, I think that the world is a big place, and anything is possible. It wouldn’t be strange for a curse like that to exist, would it?"
"You’re right," Dudi said with a faint smile. "The world is a big place, and anything is possible."
When she got home, it was not yet 8 p.m. Ye Feimo had already eaten a little something and was looking at Anning’s quarterly financial report in the living room. Wen Nuan came over and gave him a hug. "Are you hungry?"
"I’m starving."
"I’ll heat it up for you right away," Wen Nuan said, putting down her bag and taking off her coat to go to the kitchen. Ye Feimo’s eyes followed Wen Nuan. His face was solemn.
*Dudi didn’t tell Wen Nuan?*
That was strange. If he had told her, she wouldn’t have come home so early. She would have found a place to cry, overthink, and torture herself before coming home.
She came home with such a natural and carefree expression, as if nothing had happened. Wen Nuan’s acting was good, but she couldn’t hide something this big, especially since it concerned him.
The only explanation was that Dudi didn’t tell her anything.
This man was interesting. He traveled all the way to see Wen Nuan but didn’t tell her a single thing. What was he trying to do? What was the point of all this? But Dudi not telling her was what Ye Feimo wanted. He didn’t want Wen Nuan to know about these troubles.
He had regretted it as soon as he hung up the phone. He had only intended to test Dudi’s attitude and didn’t think too much about it. But after he hung up, he thought that if Wen Nuan found out, it would be a huge blow to her.
Forget about the Long family’s curse. Just finding out that she wasn’t Mrs. Wen’s biological daughter would be a big enough blow to Wen Nuan.
Wen Nuan heated up the food and brought it to the dining table, asking Ye Feimo to come and eat.
"What did Dudi tell you?" Ye Feimo asked calmly as he sat down.
"Nothing much. He said he was looking for his fiance and that he wanted my help, but then he said it was fine," Wen Nuan said honestly. Ye Feimo let out a cold snort, clearly displeased.
*Fiance...*
His fiance was a thing of the past.
No wonder he hated Dudi so much. This man really had some kind of inexplicable connection with her. It would be best if Wen Nuan never found out about it. As for the "dying young" curse, he hoped it would go to hell.
Wen Nuan went to get her phone. "Feimo, my phone is broken. Can you fix it?"
Ye Feimo took her phone and fiddled with it for a bit. "I’ll fix it for you later."
"That would be great. It would save me from having to take it to a repair shop." Her general rule was to wait for Ye Feimo to fix anything that broke in the house. He could fix almost anything. He could fix the refrigerator, the air conditioner, and now her phone, too. She had already guessed that he would be able to help her with it.
Ye Feimo looked up at her and shook his head. Wen Nuan smiled. "My scenes are all done. I can rest for about ten days, starting tomorrow. Do you have any time off?"
