Chapter 679: 679 Chinese New Year
"No way. We’re just going to take a look. If we think it’s good and it suits us, we can go to the grassland after the root gathering is done, can’t we?"
"Alright. It’s settled then." Zeng Hongling was a bit excited.
In the past, she was always stuck at home. She wanted to go out and have fun, but both her grandpa and dad didn’t agree, saying it wasn’t safe for a girl to go out alone.
But now it’s different. She can follow Yuanyuan wherever she goes, and that way, she won’t be wronged for a lifetime, right?
After finishing the dumplings at midnight, they were supposed to stay up all night. So, the five of them sat to the side, listening to songs on the radio, drinking tea, and eating peanuts and sunflower seeds.
"Yuanyuan, I’ve suddenly realized that past New Years didn’t have any meaning. This is the proper way to spend New Year’s, right?"
"This is how we do it in the North."
"Yuanyuan, can we travel to all the cities someday? Isn’t it said that reading thousands of books doesn’t compare to traveling thousands of miles?"
"That’s a great idea."
The two women hit it off instantly, and of course, the three men didn’t have any objections. After all, they were quite looking forward to it too.
"The luckiest thing in my life is knowing Su Yuanyuan," Zeng Hongling said with a smile.
The three men nodded in agreement, especially Wei Guangxiang, who felt much more relaxed now, with a lot less of that oppressive feeling in his heart.
On the next day, they didn’t go out to visit anyone for New Year, nor did anyone come to visit them, because Su Yuanyuan didn’t really know any of the neighbors on either side.
Still, wishing each other a Happy New Year among the five of them was quite fun. The following days were spent enjoying food and drinks at home. Life was pleasantly comfortable.
On the sixth day, as soon as they got up, someone knocked on the door.
This time, it was Zeng Yixin who went to open the door. Seeing the four people outside, he recognized one of them and realized they were Su Yuanyuan’s friends.
Su Yuanyuan already knew that Hu Zi and his group had come along.
"Sis-in-law," Hu Zi said excitedly.
Su Yuanyuan smiled, "Come in and have a seat."
Daqing and the others followed Hu Zi inside. Each of them brought gifts.
Zeng Hongling poured them some tea and then went back to study pharmacology.
"Sis-in-law, we just got back yesterday."
"Did you spend New Year’s away again this year?"
"We’re used to it."
"Chengzi and Da Yang went on a mission," Daqing said with a grin.
"Sis-in-law, are you leaving again this time?"
"Yes, I’ll be leaving in a while. By the way, did Da Yang leave you any Blood Stopping Pills?"
"We’ve all received them."
"Alright, be careful. Like I’ve always said, you only have one life. You must protect yourselves."
Da Biao remained silent on the side, but hearing the concern in his sister-in-law’s words, he suddenly stood up.
"Sis-in-law, Cao Minzhu is dead. Da Yang did it."
The smile on Su Yuanyuan’s face froze, and she frowned, "Did Da Yang suffer any consequences?"
"No, Zhang Chunsheng took responsibility."
"In the future, none of you should be so impulsive."
"Sis-in-law, they harmed our leader."
"Where did Da Yang go for this mission?"
"Zhang Chunsheng sent him to the North. It’s a long-term mission. Even if he returns, it won’t be for at least half a year.
Sis-in-law, don’t worry, Chengzi is with him."
Su Yuanyuan thought for a moment. She decided to head north a month early for root gathering, to visit the two of them. So, she didn’t say anything more.
"Sis-in-law, are you going to the seaside again this year?"
Su Yuanyuan nodded, "I definitely am."
Last year, she saw three kids. I wonder if she’ll be just as lucky this year? Will she see them again?
All four of them fell silent. They knew that talking about this was pointless.
Hu Zi talked about the situation outside, focusing on interesting things. They liked bringing good news, not bad.
"Sis-in-law, the girl we discovered with the leader before still hasn’t been found. It’s surprising that she turned out to be quite capable. I’ve been looking for almost three years now," Hu Zi said, trying to test if Su Yuanyuan had regained her memory. Seeing her puzzled look, he knew it hadn’t returned.
Su Yuanyuan genuinely didn’t know what Hu Zi was talking about. "Which girl?"
"The one who, like Zheng Lanying, crossed over from another time.
Sis-in-law, don’t worry about it. It’s fine if you can’t remember past things," Daqing quickly reassured Su Yuanyuan.
"Who is Zheng Lanying?"
"Sis-in-law, we don’t know much either. This Zheng Lanying is a girl who crossed over from another time. She used to know you. But because of something involving murder, she was discovered."
Su Yuanyuan was taken aback, realizing that there were already three people who had crossed over in this world.
"What happened to Zheng Lanying?"
"She’s been imprisoned, with no freedom at all. Let’s see how she’s going to stir up trouble now," Hu Zi said indifferently, though he was a bit frustrated about not finding the other girl.
Not being able to find her after three years really hurt his pride.
Daqing, Da Biao, and the others also shared interesting things they’d seen outside.
Su Yuanyuan found all of it quite entertaining. Before they knew it, it was already past ten.
"Why don’t you four stay for lunch?"
The four of them didn’t stand on ceremony.
Luckily, there was plenty of meat and vegetables at home, or else there might not have been enough to go around.
The four of them met Zhan Yunzhao and the others, and seeing how their sister-in-law got along well with them was reassuring. Truth be told, they were just afraid she’d become stubbornly insistent on her own views.
Having company for their sister-in-law was the best thing. Things were quite good as they were.
Zeng Yixin and the others also developed a favorable impression of Hu Zi and the group, marveling at what kind of charm Su Yuanyuan’s late husband possessed?
Indeed, not just anyone could have married Su Yuanyuan.
After lunch, the four of them left.
"Yuanyuan, are these people all your husband’s subordinates?"
"Yes, they’re teammates."
"They seem alright."
"They’ve gone through life and death together, so of course, their relationship is good."
In just a few days, it would be the fifteenth of the lunar month, and they had decided to leave on the sixteenth.
"Yuanyuan, do we need to bring all this stuff with us?" Zeng Hongling asked, looking at the untouched New Year’s goods they had been given.
"Let’s bring it all. We’ll stay at the sanatorium for a while."
"Are we driving there?"
"Yes, this car is mine now, so it’ll be more convenient for us. Actually, if you’re okay with a bit of fatigue, we could drive north for root gathering."
"Yuanyuan, both my brother and I can drive."
"I can drive too," Wei Guangxiang added.
"Well, I can’t," Zhan Yunzhao said with a laugh.
"Alright, let’s drive then. It’ll be convenient, and we can take turns driving since there are enough of us who can drive," Su Yuanyuan said without objection. Anything was fine with her, and it would allow her to explore along the way.
Now, they were just focused on finishing the food at home so they wouldn’t have to bring too many supplies.
