Chapter 819: Work from 8 to 9
At five o’clock, Yuanyuan stopped the comrade who wanted to ask questions.
"We’ll continue tomorrow. It’s time to finish work."
Everyone was taken aback for a moment. But no one said anything, since the leader had declared the end of work, they just wrapped it up.
Actually, everyone was pretty tired. But no one had the nerve to say it, except Yuanyuan, who didn’t care about these things.
Her mindset was to clock off when it was time to clock off, and there was plenty of time.
"Want to grab a meal together?"
"I don’t feel like eating."
"The eight-treasure porridge here is quite delicious."
Yuanyuan stood up, packed her things, and the two left the meeting room together.
The rest followed afterwards, having gained new insights from today’s meeting.
On their way to the canteen, they were called from behind.
"Mr. Su, the leader wants to see you."
"Is there anything urgent?" Yuanyuan asked Xiao Lee, Zeng Zhenqing’s secretary.
"No, the leader just wants to have dinner together."
Qin Zhiyuan laughed, "I’ll go tell the leader, you go have your meal."
"Okay, just tell him that I’ll come over right after I finish eating." Who wants to eat with them? Indigestion.
Xiao Lee had no objections. Since Qin Zhiyuan took over, it was no longer his concern.
Yuanyuan reached the canteen and ordered a bowl of eight-treasure porridge. She had thought of ordering a steamed bun as well but decided against it when she saw the large bowl of porridge.
However, she did get a piece of soy sauce tofu and a small serving of pickled vegetables.
She knew many people were watching her as she sat down to eat her porridge.
To be honest, the eight-treasure porridge was really tasty. It was cooked to perfection.
After finishing her meal, she cleaned her bowl and returned it, then headed to Zeng Zhenqing’s office.
She’s familiar with the place. She nodded at Qin Zhiyuan, who was working outside, and went to knock on the door and entered.
"You don’t even want to have dinner with me?"
"Leader, you’re so busy with work, I really can’t adjust to discussing work while eating. That’s just bad for digestion.
You should be careful about this in the future. Eating is the most important thing. You need to think that the little time you squeeze out now might result in losing more time in the future."
"Haha, I’ll be obedient in the future. I won’t work during meals.
So, how are you adjusting?"
Yuanyuan shook her head, "I can’t, I don’t like it."
"Xiao Su, your work will only get busier in the future."
Yuanyuan stayed silent, thinking when the three kids return, she’ll leave with them. She has no ambition and doesn’t want to be a workhorse.
That’s what she concluded from her past life. There’s nothing more important than living. Everything else is fleeting.
"Xiao Su, the senior leader intends for you to take a position in the Ministry of Finance."
Yuanyuan shook her head, "I’m not going."
"Refusing so straightforwardly won’t do you any good. Actually, there’s nothing to overthink.
If Xiao Tan were still here, my position would be his."
Yuanyuan said nothing, thinking that when that man returns in two years, he can do whatever he wants, but she doesn’t want to be busy all the time. She just wants to take the kids on a free and easy life around the country.
"I know you don’t want to, but you’ll eventually be made to work.
You might think you’re not suited for what I suggest, but it’s everyone’s dream except yours.
You don’t care, but not liking it isn’t an option."
"I’ll refuse. I can’t stand a constrained life."
Zeng Zhenqing just shook his head and smiled. Sometimes, it’s not a matter of what you want.
"Alright, you and Zhiyuan still need to meet with Lu Chengmin. Don’t you think diplomacy is much easier?"
Yuanyuan shook her head, "It’s too brain-draining. I can’t handle all the scheming every day."
"But you really have a talent for languages."
"I don’t."
Zeng Zhenqing laughed heartily. After all, she’s just a girl in her twenties.
Yuanyuan walked out of Zeng Zhenqing’s office, and Qin Zhiyuan stood up with a smile and approached her. "Let’s go!"
"Have you eaten?"
Qin Zhiyuan smiled and nodded, "Yes, I have. Let’s go. Mr. Lu is very busy."
Yuanyuan understood Qin Zhiyuan’s hint, which was to get it done early.
Both of them were ushered into the office.
"Xiao Su, do me a favor. This is a translation document sent over just now. Help me check for errors; there are differences in a few translations."
Yuanyuan took a look and sat down, pulling out paper and pen to start translating.
Lu Chengmin glanced at Qin Zhiyuan. They both had smiles in their eyes.
Yuanyuan spent an hour translating the document. She felt awful. This was a damn setup. She got up to look at the three translated documents.
After reading them, her expression wasn’t too good. "Three people, and yet one person’s translation can reveal the traps set."
Lu Chengmin smiled, "Xiao Su, I’ve looked at the translations from the other three, and I just saw yours too. It’s really good. Seriously, Xiao Su, come over and be my assistant. I don’t care where others want you, but you must be here with me."
"Leader, I have no such desire."
"Xiao Su, I see you’re very unhappy. Why? Is it that you feel cheated and unhappy because of foreign manipulation?
You love your country and don’t want the vast public to be deceived, so you must do your utmost."
"Leader. You don’t need to put a hat on me. I’m selfish and not that noble."
Lu Chengmin just laughed. "Alright, these are all matters for the future. For now, let’s focus on discussing this task."
Yuanyuan diligently took notes. Some issues required a three-person discussion.
At nine, Yuanyuan tossed down her pen. The fountain pen had been refilled with ink three times already, and her wrist hurt.
"I’m clocking off now."
There were still quite a few issues, normally one would work overtime to finish, but Yuanyuan didn’t want to.
Lu Chengmin also put down his pen, "Alright, time to finish work. Let Zhiyuan take you home."
Yuanyuan shook her head, "No need. Secretary Qin is also too tired. Leader, people are made of flesh and blood; this isn’t right. We should combine work with rest."
"Okay. Be careful on your way. Tomorrow, I’ll have someone pick you up and assign you a driver." They weren’t comfortable with a girl walking home at night by herself.
Yuanyuan shook her head, "I have a car. I’ll drive tomorrow."
When she got home, she went straight into the space, where it was comfortable.
Having been too tired during the day, she opened her eyes and left the space at six.
She quickly washed up and drove off.
In the morning, there was no eight-treasure porridge, so Yuanyuan ordered a bowl of soy milk and a steamed bun. She didn’t even get an egg.
Secretary Wu came over to get her meal and greeted Yuanyuan with a smile. He even specifically gave Yuanyuan a bowl of milk. But it was declined.
"Thank you, Secretary Wu. I don’t like this flavor. I’ve had soy milk."
