Chapter 1924: Chapter 1924: Sharing a Boat
The Priestess hurriedly picked up the copper coin, and a few silver coins appeared in her hand. Just as she was about to hand them to the little Ogre, the man who had spoken earlier snorted and said, “Am I wrong? Stupid Ogres can’t learn crap, don’t give them silver coins; spoiling them like this. This broken city requires us to travel so far just to run a dungeon, and they won’t even let us players stay in the Bright District. Staying at an inn costs ten Gold Coins a night, daylight robbery.”
At this point, the little Ogre had already docked the boat, looking coldly at them, clearly telling them to get lost.
The Priestess was furious: “That’s enough, taking it out on a child NPC because you’re upset in real life—do you have any shame? If you’re not in the mood to raid today, I’d suggest you go back and rest.”
The captain, who had been sitting at the stern studying the strategy guide, finally spoke, “Alright, you know he’s in a bad mood, don’t provoke him anymore. And you too, for someone your age, even in a virtual world, you shouldn’t be picking on a kid.”
The Priestess snorted coldly and stuffed a few silver coins into the little Ogre’s hand.
“My mentor said as a creature of Advanced Wisdom, I should have dignity. I row a boat after school to supplement the family income, relying on my familiarity with the city and my strength, not your Light Faction’s charity. Give me five copper coins, and I’ll take you to your destination, but don’t board my boat next time anyway, there are plenty of boatmen.”
The little Ogre ultimately only took five copper coins, even though five silver coins were a huge amount to him.
The wisdom enhancement, especially impactful on young creatures, had allowed them to adapt to their new lives in just two months.
Originally, the little Ogre was quite happy with their teasing, but after this incident, he ignored them, leaving the two female players quite frustrated, glaring at that player fiercely.
“Don’t be mad, sisters. I was just confused earlier, upset in real life and then upset in the game too. But Starfire is too much; I’ve stayed in so many inns and the price never exceeded a silver coin, but here it’s ten Gold Coins. Starfire’s arrogance knows no bounds,” that player said softly.
“Just say less, this is Starfire’s territory: even the main city belongs to them. You’re lucky they let our faction in to raid Dire Maul. You saw it yourself, with so many players in the main city, who wouldn’t want to live in the Bright District? But it would be too crowded, and it’s now an internal area of Starfire’s guild. Allowing access already shows Starfire’s huge generosity. If you were in a large guild, would you let other players near your guild’s core area?” the captain said.
“Captain, don’t bother convincing him, he’s just jealous of Starfire for occupying the main city. He can’t stand watching Starfire and the vassal guilds basking in glory, he’s always been like this, unable to see others doing well,” the Priestess pouted.
“What kind of sister are you?” the angry player was immediately deflated, sulking on the boat.
The captain smiled wryly, “Don’t talk about him anymore, who doesn’t envy Starfire? Now there are queues just to join Starfire. I’ve heard that Starfire’s affiliated guilds have increased by ten, each joining as experts, all because of Starfire’s benefits. Even the benefits of an affiliated guild are much better than those of a large guild.”
The Priestess said, “I’ve heard that by the end of this month, Starfire’s guild level will be upgraded, raising the member limit again, and idle players would naturally be tempted. Not to mention, I’ve heard that players from their affiliated guilds can secure good personal residences in the Shadow City District in the main city. Moreover, because of the Dire Maul Copy Group, this place is expected to remain bustling, coupled with the dangerous adventure areas around it, the allure of personal residences is enormous, who wouldn’t be tempted?”
“Are you regretting choosing the Light Faction, otherwise you could’ve joined Starfire?” the rogue in the team teased with a smile.
“Indeed, I have some confidence in my skills. It’s such a pity,” the Priestess sighed. “We can only be spectators. Didn’t the recent epic battle make your blood boil? Look at the so-called battles we’ve participated in, hastily concluded. Meanwhile, look at battles here… but we can only be spectators, what a regret,” the Priestess said regretfully.
“Come on, with our little resources, participating in the battles here would likely see us as cannon fodder. Let’s not aim too high. Yesterday’s Ancient Tree boss trapped us all night, share any strategies and insights, let’s clear the five-man mode sooner. With some gear, we can form a ten-man team, or even participate in larger team explorations. Having an Ancient Tree Nemesis, even an epic level one would be enough to elevate us,” the captain said.
Soon, the boat docked, and just as everyone was about to disembark, they suddenly heard a thunderous explosion.
They looked up in shock to see numerous harpies in the sky, surrounded by electric light. A faction-level harpy wielding a bizarre Magic Wand was striking the city’s defensive barrier with bolts of lightning.
Even eerier, as the lightning rampaged, a hole a few meters wide appeared in the barrier, allowing harpies to enter the city through the breach.
A male player was grabbed and lifted by a harpy.
The shrill alarm rang out, with many Ogres gathering on land while countless bats appeared in the sky.
Players around shouted, “City invasion spotted, a great opportunity to grind reputation, Lan Meng Guild members, gather on me.”
Many players understood, hunting a monster that entered the city equated to hunt a hundred outside, the hundredfold military merit and reputation was a great incentive to numerous players.
“Courting death!” The faction-level harpy outside the barrier was furious, unleashing endless lightning.
The recently disembarked team watched as a twisted bolt of lightning struck down, targeting the small boat they had just disembarked from, where the little Ogre was blankly looking up.
“Damn it, save him!”
The Priestess instinctively wanted to use a skill to pull the little Ogre over, but since they weren’t allies, it was impossible.
Li Yao, who was about to take flight to hunt the harpies, saw this scene. With a flap of his wings, he reached the little Ogre’s side, wrapping him with his wings.
Crackle!
The lightning shattered the small boat, and Li Yao spread his wings, bringing the little Ogre to the Priestess: “Help me protect him, consider this a part of your quest.”
Before the Priestess could respond, he shot into the sky. As he ascended, arrows deflected the rampant lightning, preventing it from raging below.
The team was dumbfounded, and the little Ogre joyfully exclaimed, “It’s the King, I’ve been saved by the King! Look, Little Gera boasted about having the King’s wooden carving, but I’ve actually seen the King!”
The team also realized, the King’s mouth was naturally referring to Prairie Fire. They couldn’t believe they had shared a boat with Prairie Fire…
