Chapter 293: Heartless plans

Chapter 293: Heartless plans

Edna had eaten through all of her nails, down to her cuticles.

A wedding dress? Really? Were they moving that fast? But why? They had so little in common!

That wench probably wanted children which could never happen with Silas. Was she willing to make such a large sacrifice just to be with him?

It didn’t make any sense. It was too high of a price to pay, wasn’t it? Not to mention, she was human and would only be by his side for a few decades at best!

Granted, she too, Edna was human but was well versed in the occult in witchcraft and would do anything to prolong her life in order to stand by him for longer. That was the extent of her love and devotion for him.

That was the glaring difference between her and that poser!

The blonde had made up her mind that Arabella merely wanted to bask in the family’s riches and in turn would sacrifice anything, just like she’d surrendered her body so willingly to him.

Arabella didn’t love him! She never did!

Such thoughts swirled her mind as she glared past the door to the entertainers’ room where the maids huddled around Arabella.

What were they so taken by? Edna could not comprehend. Then again, those accustomed to mediocrity couldn’t differentiate high standards from their pesky, average tastes.

If nothing occurred to stop them, their union would take place right after the spring equinox. Since the next auction was only happening the next month and that meant, the prince of Lustris wouldn’t arrive before that.

That was unacceptable! Something needed to be done in order to stop that sham of a union!

Silas was hers and no one other than her would have him!

The shrill giggles and chirping emanating from the room made her stomach churn, coating its empty inner walls in stinging acid.

Her feet led her towards the open air of the gardens where their infuriating voices couldn’t reach.

The moon was kind to everyone, regardless of their hearts and intentions. It shone bright on Edna, emphasizing the dull layer that coated her eyes due to the Mirari.

Beholding the round, celestial body that glowed brighter that night, preparing for the events to come, Edna smiled. Not with content, but with resolve.

If she did not step up and act, then no one would. There was no one she could reach out to that would solve all of her problems for she wasn’t half the spoiled brat Arabella was brought up to be.

And so, she paced back and forth as the cool breeze of the night brushed her face, her hand squeezing around the potion vial containing the substance that was supposed to be used on Silas.

Instead, Edna had found ways to use it on Katherine every time the chance to had offered itself to her.

The vampiress was in such a critical state that even she pitied her a little... Just a little.

Though the blonde had no way of knowing the effects it’d yield on her body since she was warned not to use it on anyone other than Silas, her hands still leaned towards the vial for that exact purpose.

That was when the plan that started as a mere seed, sprouted into more. Arabella would never agree to have her wedding should she lose a dear friend, would she? At least not in the same month.

Even if that harlot was merely pretending to be concerned for appearances, she’d still have to maintain that façade in front of the Lady and Silas.

As for the Lady, Katherine has been one of her favorites for a long time. She’s raised her since infancy under her own roof after all.

If Katherine were to die... The Lady would certainly need time to recover.

The vampiress stood on the verge of death already. All that was needed was a little push and it’d be done.

Edna crossed her t’s and dotted her i’s. Not wanting to be linked to any of it after the deed was done.

She meticulously prepared two tea cups mixed with blood, not forgetting to put the blood flask onto the tray with the small tea pot in order to further indicate that those weren’t meant for human consumption.

Both in the tea and blood, the blonde slipped a potent substance that was strong enough to put even vampires to sleep.

She then left the tray on the counter where anyone that would enter would immediately see them.

The blonde made the correct assumption that if a maid found them, she’d carry the tray to Allegra and Grace who stood guard upon Katherine and in the case one of the sisters would come down for some tea, or something, they’d carry it back with them.

Edna stood watch until Grace came by the kitchens, spotted the tray and took it with her. After that, the maid counted the minutes for an hour to go by.

That was her time to strike. Upon entering the medical wing, the blonde made her way to the far back where Katherine was being kept.

Knowing full well the door could be opened from the outside, she gripped the knob and peeked inside the lit room.

Allegra had fallen to the floor while Grace leaned on top of the bed Katherine still occupied.

Edna very slowly and carefully approached the vampiress who struggled to breathe, watching as her chest heaved and fell.

Eventually, Edna came to tower over her and for a moment Katherine’s bloodshot eyes connected with those of the blonde.

Utterly helpless, her haggard breath kept on that rhythm as she lay limp, waiting for whatever it was that Edna came to do to her.

The maid picked up the vial and dumped its entire content in her already open mouth before pinching at her nose in order to force her to drink it all.

There wasn’t much else for her to do after that aside from glaring down at the vampiress for seconds then taking her leave from whence she came.
