Chapter 314: Chapter 316: Just Going to the Appointment

"Mum, there’s no need to trouble the driver. I can drive myself."

Fluffy Zane turned to leave. Mrs. Zane rubbed her forehead with one hand. "Are you trying to make your mother angry?"

At her words, Fluffy Zane stopped.

Behind her came Mrs. Zane’s heartbroken voice, "You don’t even want to go on the date. You’re driving so you can come back whenever you want, and to prevent Jim Jones from taking you home. Do you think I don’t know all this?"

Damn. She’s been found out.

Fluffy Zane lowered her head and sighed. She had nothing to say.

Mrs. Zane took two steps forward. "My child, why are you so hopelessly stubborn? What’s so good about William Guillen that you insist on tying your fate to him, a man who’s clearly a bad choice—like staking everything on a crooked tree?"

Fluffy Zane’s affection for William Guillen had long been an open secret in Imperial City.

But William Guillen had never spared Fluffy Zane a second thought.

He frequented the flower bushes, and his collection of beauties was never interrupted. He would never give up the entire forest for just one tree.

If William Guillen was considered the second biggest playboy in Imperial City, then nobody would dare to call themselves the first.

The number of women he had slept with and the women who had followed him were countless...

And yet, that stubborn Fluffy Zane—it just had to be him!

For so many years, Mrs. Zane initially thought her daughter was still young, so she turned a blind eye, pretending not to know.

She had thought that as time went by, her daughter would eventually move on, and her feelings for William Guillen would fade.

She never expected her own daughter to be such a devoted soul.

Over all these years, she’d lost count of how many times she had seen her daughter cry, all because of William Guillen.

As a mother, Mrs. Zane couldn’t bear to see her daughter love someone she couldn’t have. She wanted a man who would love and cherish her daughter, to take care of her and protect her.

She tried her best to find suitable candidates for her daughter to meet on blind dates.

Her daughter went to every appointment, but each time she had an excuse to end things.

Even excuses like, "He ate an onion and then wanted to kiss me," "He wore a perfume I don’t like," "His conversation was utterly vulgar," and "His taste is terribly awful" became reasons for her to reject others.

Mrs. Zane took a deep breath, her tone dejected, "Forget it. If you don’t want to go, then don’t. I’ll call Jim Jones and tell him not to bother coming."

Fluffy Zane turned around and looked at Mrs. Zane, raising her hand uneasily to smooth her hair. "Mum, don’t be like that. I’ll go. Since I’ve promised someone, I can’t stand them up. Isn’t this what you taught me?"

"Are you serious?"

Fluffy Zane nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Serious."

Mrs. Zane’s eyes welled up, but she smiled. "Jim Jones is a good young man; he has good conduct, is kind and filial. A truly rare and well-behaved person. You two should meet, even if it’s just to make a new friend, you understand?"

"Mhm, I understand." Fluffy Zane put down the car keys. "Mum, I’m really leaving, or I’ll be late."

"Go ahead, have fun."

She got in the car and drove away from the villa.

Fluffy Zane let out a heavy breath, leaning back in her seat as if all her strength had been drained.

She didn’t want to disappoint her mother, so she went to every single one. But that’s all it was—just going. She knew what her parents were expecting, what they were hoping for, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Deep down, she knew what they wanted to see, but she was incapable of delivering. She couldn’t go against her own heart and be with someone she didn’t like. Not even if she faked it.
