Chapter 345 - 344: Encountering a Wild Boar

Chapter 345: Chapter 344: Encountering a Wild Boar

Han Yi was slightly embarrassed, coughed lightly twice, and said, "There are many bugs here, let me take you behind that tree," while shining his flashlight in several directions.

"Oh." Lin Wan wanted to say it was nothing, in the afternoon she had solved it in the grass pile, but seeing Han Yi’s nervous look, she didn’t speak and obediently followed him to the two big trees 200 meters away.

The night was long, and the temperature was very low, especially in the mountains and forests. Lin Wan took out extra thick clothes for Han Yi to wear, and quickly put some on herself.

She crawled under the blanket and looked at her watch by the firelight, it was only a little after seven.

Han Yi did not lie down but sat at the cave entrance, tending to the fire. The firelight reflected on him, creating a particularly quiet and warm atmosphere.

Lin Wan thought this kind of night was beautiful and refreshing. It was the couple’s first trip together.

"Can’t sleep?" Han Yi noticed Lin Wan’s gaze and turned to gently stroke her hair.

"Yeah, a bit excited. When I was a kid, my brother often went up the mountains with the villagers, and every time he came back, he’d bring me lots of wild fruits to eat, but those fruits were very sour. My brother would say he struggled to snatch them back from others."

There are tasty wild fruits too, but kids in the mountains back then were hungry and cold, so they’d pick whatever looked edible without caring if it was ripe and bring it home.

"What kind of mountains do you have there?"

"Almost the same, I guess. Not as dense as here. My brother and mom wouldn’t let me go up the mountain."

"Why?"

"The mountains aren’t safe. I remember several girls died when I was young," she said vaguely, but Han Yi understood.

"No one did anything about it?"

"They did, it took years to catch the culprit, even so, girls were still afraid to go into the mountains alone."

"If you want to go into the mountains in the future, I’ll go with you."

"Okay." Lin Wan cuddled under the blanket, her cheek rubbing against Han Yi’s fingers, finding a comfortable position. Just as she was feeling sleepy, Han Yi suddenly furrowed his brow, stood up quickly, and grabbed his knife and bow.

"Get up quickly, it’s dangerous here."

"What’s wrong?" Lin Wan, puzzled, it seemed so quiet.

Han Yi swiftly pulled her to a low tree, helping her climb up the branches. "Stay up here, don’t come down, okay?"

Lin Wan obediently nodded, only then noticing the sounds of snorting wild boars in the nearby darkness.

After settling Lin Wan, Han Yi quickly climbed a nearby big tree. He aimed his bow at the nearest wild boar. Lin Wan only heard a swoosh, and through the dim firelight, saw a wild boar fall to the ground. It wasn’t dead yet, struggling to get up.

Lin Wan dared not make a sound, afraid of distracting Han Yi.

In less than a minute, Han Yi had shot five arrows at five wild boars.

They had come in a group of seven. Han Yi only had five arrows. Lin Wan was getting anxious for Han Yi.

One of the unshot boars somehow noticed her in the tree and started violently ramming the small tree, pushing at the roots with its snout.

Another boar came over, also pushing at the roots.

The other injured wild boars, driven wild by their wounds, were running around crashing into things.

The originally thin tree trunk began to sway precariously under the fierce assault of the two wild boars, as if about to fall.

Lin Wan was terrified and shouted, "Ai Yi" with a sobbing voice.

"Don’t be afraid, I’m here." From another tree, Han Yi’s deep eagle-like eyes, as blue as the sea, locked onto Lin Wan’s figure in the dim light, even able to see her panicked little face. Yet, Han Yi maintained an air of calmness.
