Chapter 53 They Are All Filthy
Yang Lazi walked up to Fang Xiaoyu, using her staff to steady herself on the ground. She looked at Fang Xiaoyu, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
"I'm sorry… I'm sorry…"
"You… you once said that we were a team, that we wouldn't abandon… wouldn't give up. Why… why have we come to this? Why are our weapons pointed at our own people…"
Fang Xiaoyu looked up, her hands supporting her on the ground. Beneath her palms were the hilts of two swords.
"I… I don't know either. Why do we have to be like this? Why do you keep doubting Karen? Wouldn't it be better if we kept moving towards the same goal? Wouldn't it be better if we stayed together? The world is already like this, we're destined to live in it…"
"Lazi-jie."
Fang Xiaoyu interrupted Yang Lazi.
"What is it?"
"You're going to kill me, right?"
"I'm sorry, I don't want to either."
"Then… before you kill me, can you hug me one more time? Just one more hug. I'll miss you after I die."
Fang Xiaoyu retracted her armor.
Looking at that pale face, Yang Lazi couldn't refuse this last request before death.
After all, they were once the most trusted and inseparable partners.
"Okay."
Yang Lazi threw down the iron staff in her hand, took two steps forward, and was about to pick up Fang Xiaoyu.
Suddenly, Fang Xiaoyu's right hand shot up, still clutching a sword.
*Chi!*
Yang Lazi looked in disbelief at the sword piercing her abdomen, her eyes filled with fear and astonishment.
Fang Xiaoyu stood up abruptly, slashing upwards without hesitation with the sword in her left hand.
The scarf around Yang Lazi's neck tore, and blood gurgled out, soaking the scarf.
"I… I'm not from your world, you filthy garbage! I shouldn't have trusted you in the first place!"
Yang Lazi fell to the ground, the lively light gone from her eyes. Blood flowed from her mouth and neck, melting the gray snow, turning the ground black.
Even filthier.
Fang Xiaoyu added another stab to Yang Lazi's chest before retracting her hand, her eyes not filled with hatred, but only pain.
Suddenly, Fang Xiaoyu felt a chill run down her spine. Not having time to turn around or dodge, she immediately activated her armor.
The moment the armor covered her, she heard a "ding" sound. A crossbow bolt struck her head and fell to the ground.
Karen threw down the repeating crossbow in his hand, picked up his sword, and strode forward.
Fang Xiaoyu didn't say a word, holding her sword, her left foot braced on the ground, waiting for Karen to arrive.
Neither of them said a word.
Karen used to be a noble young master, physically weak and unable to lift a chicken.
In the shelter, he often trained with the others, learning many combat skills. He had personally participated in battles, so he had some combat ability.
But most of the time, he was busy with management. He mostly commanded battles, so it was impossible for him to have strong combat power.
He dared to face Fang Xiaoyu alone now because he saw that her right leg was broken and she was seriously injured.
Karen's speed increased, the sword in his hand raised high, his eyes full of murderous intent.
He reached Fang Xiaoyu and raised his sword.
*Dong!!!*
Karen's body suddenly flew sideways, then crashed heavily to the ground, leaving a long trail in the gray snow.
Looking at him again, his left arm was bent at an unnatural angle, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, his face contorted in pain.
On the ground lay a hammer.
Wan Lei staggered over, a field of corpses behind him.
The frail Karen lay on the ground, his left arm broken, forced to support himself with his right hand.
Wan Lei walked to Fang Xiaoyu's side, supporting her, and together they slowly approached Karen.
Fang Xiaoyu swept Karen's fallen sword away with her own. She wouldn't let Karen use the same trick on her again.
Karen no longer had any weapons. Wan Lei and Fang Xiaoyu also retracted their armor.
Wan Lei was soaked in blood, his eyes bloodshot, like a demon emerging from the abyss, staring intently at Karen.
Karen struggled to get up, but Fang Xiaoyu raised her sword and pressed it against his neck.
"Heh."
There was no fear in Karen's eyes, but the madness had faded.
"Aren't you two saints? Come on, kill me, muster your courage, kill me! Come on, I'm a villain, I'm a traitor, kill me, hahahahaha…"
"You're a lunatic."
Fang Xiaoyu's eyes were filled with resentment, she gritted her teeth, but couldn't bring herself to stab him.
"If you kill me, the city will be in chaos. Leaderless, two of the Four Giants have run away, one is dead, and if I die, no one can suppress them. They will immediately fall into a power struggle. Come on, kill me, and when you return to the city, it will be yours."
"Filthy."
Fang Xiaoyu thought the city was filthy.
"Go back, go back and continue managing your city. Just pretend we're dead."
Wan Lei carried Fang Xiaoyu on his back, picked up his hammer, and walked north.
The little yellow dog poked its head out of Wan Lei's arms, wanting to say, "I was suffocating, damn it," but didn't say it out loud.
It had been in Wan Lei's arms the whole time.
"I don't need your pity, I'm a strong man, I don't need your pity, come and kill me, kill me!!!"
Karen roared, watching Wan Lei and Fang Xiaoyu's figures disappear into the blizzard. Tears streamed down his face, scalding his cheeks.
"Wan Lei… Fang Xiaoyu… come back… come back…"
They walked far away and didn't hear Karen's sobbing voice.
Karen lay weakly on the snow, gray snowflakes falling on his face, turning into mud spots.
He didn't know what his feelings were for Wan Lei and Fang Xiaoyu. He hated them for always bossing him around. He resented them for not submitting to him, but he also relied on them.
The Lei-Yu duo had saved him time and time again, leading him, helping him, and building this city together.
He looked at the sky in despair. The three people he trusted most were all gone.
Karen was in despair, but even more desperate were Wan Lei and Fang Xiaoyu.
The physical pain was no match for the pain in their hearts. Karen's betrayal was undoubtedly the last straw, severing their last bit of attachment to this world.
"The people here are all filthy."
Fang Xiaoyu leaned on Wan Lei's back, her eyes vacant. She didn't cry her heart out.
Despair seemed to be the main color of this world.
