Chapter 1 What Happened?
"What's going on? Why is there such a commotion inside?"
Kallen frowned.
The sounds of fighting in the city were particularly loud in the silent night.
Wan Lei pondered for a moment, a solemn look in his eyes.
"We must have been exposed. These criminals are so unreliable."
"What do we do? If the city gates don't open, we can't take it by force."
Kallen looked at the tall city walls in the distance, nearly ten meters high, and gritted his teeth.
They had been planning for almost a year, and now that the time had come to act, they were failing at the crucial moment.
(Western European city walls are not like the sloped city walls of ancient China, they are almost vertical, making them very difficult to climb.)
"Here's what we'll do. I'll sneak in, get onto the city wall, and kill my way to the gate, trying to open it. You guys sneak over a little later, but don't charge the gate, so you don't attract the enemy's attention, or they'll desperately block the gate.
Once I start opening the gate, you immediately charge and break it open, then kill your way in."
"No, it's too dangerous. There's already a chaotic battle going on inside, how can you go alone?"
Kallen immediately shook his head.
"Don't worry, I have armor, and I'm strong. Unless I'm crushed to death, a few cuts won't hurt me."
"But, can't we wait for them to weaken each other before we try to seize the city?"
Yang Lazi suggested.
"No."
Wan Lei and Kallen said in unison.
The two looked at each other, and Wan Lei gestured for Kallen to speak.
"We don't know who will win in the end. If the good people win and don't open the city gate, and we don't have any siege equipment, we won't be able to get in.
And if we want to show favor to those criminals, we must do everything we can to minimize their casualties. Otherwise, if they win in the end, why would they help us open the city gate and let us in to be the masters?
They're helping us because they want to take the city with us, because they want to reduce casualties. If the battle is over, what do they need us for?
It's best to strike when the battle is at its most intense, giving the good people a fatal blow. This will minimize casualties for both us and the criminals, maximizing the effect."
"Alright, enough talk, I'm going now."
Wan Lei turned around and asked Zhuo Jiu for a grappling hook, standard equipment for scouts.
"I'll go with you, I have armor too."
Fang Xiaoyu stood up and grabbed Wan Lei.
"No, you stay here. It's too dangerous inside. Lazi, watch her, don't let her run around."
Wan Lei squeezed Fang Xiaoyu's small hand, then turned and ran towards the city wall without looking back.
Wan Lei bit the hammer handle, ran while swinging the grappling hook, and when he got close to the base of the city wall, he threw it, and the hook caught the edge of the wall.
Then, he jumped off the ground, grabbed the rope, and quickly climbed up the city wall.
Perhaps the good people thought it was impossible for any enemy to climb the tall city wall, or perhaps they had sent all their troops down to fight the criminals to the death, but there wasn't a single guard on the city wall.
After getting onto the city wall, Wan Lei crouched down, walked to the city gate, and quietly looked down.
Below, a dense crowd of good people and criminals were fighting, the battle lines chaotic, but Wan Lei could still tell that the good people were near the city gate.
The good soldiers wore uniform clothing, while the criminals were in rags.
Looking at the height of more than ten meters, Wan Lei gritted his teeth and activated the Thunder Armor.
He missed the days when he had cultivation. If he still had it now, he wouldn't need to go through so much trouble, he could just fly up and down.
He wouldn't need to open any city gates, he could just use a Thunderstorm to wipe out everyone.
Unfortunately, he was now a mortal.
Wan Lei looked at the good soldiers on guard below, took the hammer in his hand and threw it down. Then, as a scream rose from below, he covered his head with his hands and jumped down, back first.
Boom!!!
A loud noise rang out as Wan Lei, wearing armor, crashed heavily onto several good people. The weight of hundreds of pounds falling from a height of more than ten meters crushed them into a pulp.
Wan Lei wasn't feeling good either. Even with these meat cushions, he was still dizzy and in great pain from the impact.
"Damn it, my Thunder Body..."
Wan Lei cursed. Seeing a dozen spear tips suddenly appear in front of him, he immediately rolled to the side, then picked up his hammer and swung it with all his might.
Crack! Crack!
"Ah!!"
Accompanied by the sound of bones breaking, several good soldiers immediately fell to the ground, clutching their legs and screaming in agony.
Wan Lei flipped over and stood up, smashed a soldier to death with his hammer, and then, wielding the hammer, charged towards the city gate.
His hammer was extremely heavy, and wherever it went, there were sounds of bones breaking and screams. No soldier could withstand a single blow.
The gate tunnel wasn't deep, and he quickly fought his way to the city gate.
On the city gate, there was an iron bolt, holding the gate shut.
Wan Lei dropped his hammer, propped his hands against the bolt, and tried to lift it up.
It was too heavy.
The bolt weighed at least two hundred pounds.
"Ah!!!"
Wan Lei used every ounce of strength he had, and the bolt slowly rose in his hands.
"Don't let him open the city gate!"
A good soldier roared and thrust a spear at Wan Lei.
Fortunately, Wan Lei was wearing Thunder Armor, and ordinary weapons couldn't penetrate it.
But the soldiers noticed this and changed their tactics, raising their spears and swinging them at Wan Lei's back.
The spears hit Wan Lei's back with a series of loud thuds. With each heavy blow, Wan Lei felt like his spine was about to be broken.
His body was in agony, but he gritted his teeth, turning the pain into strength, desperately lifting the two-hundred-pound bolt over his head.
Then, Wan Lei fell backward, and the bolt immediately crushed a row of soldiers behind him into a bloody mess.
Without looking back, Wan Lei immediately stood up, grabbed the bolt, and used all his strength to pull the door open a crack wide enough for one person to pass through.
When he saw the situation outside, he was so angry that he almost vomited blood.
The long line of torches outside was still at least half a kilometer away.
"Hurry up!"
Wan Lei roared, then turned back, picked up his hammer, and stood in front of the city gate.
Seeing that the city gate had been opened, the good soldiers went crazy trying to close it.
And Wan Lei's most important task now was to block them, to block the city gate.
"Kill!"
Wan Lei roared and, with all his strength, swung his hammer, defending against the soldiers.
Lifting the bolt and taking the beating had almost exhausted all his strength. Now, he felt like the hammer in his hand weighed a thousand pounds.
Taking a beating was also very tiring.
The soldiers attacked Wan Lei like madmen. Wan Lei, with his own body, stood in front of hundreds of soldiers.
One man standing at the pass, ten thousand men unable to pass.
