Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Slapping the Fake Heiress 52
Zhang Ke gave Anning a rundown of the robot competition.
He also expressed his longing: "I wanted to go watch it last year, but my parents took me back to our hometown, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it this year."
Anning immediately looked up a lot of videos to study.
She found the competition quite interesting.
The competition featured robots made by high school students from all over the world. Those robots were full of imagination, with every kind possible, some even bizarre in shape.
In this life, Anning wanted to research artificial intelligence.
She always felt a bit uneasy.
She didn’t quite understand what Main God was, or even how An Xin was built.
Although she had thoroughly bound An Xin to herself using a special method and severed the connection between An Xin and Main God, she still didn’t quite grasp the principles behind An Xin.
Anning planned to dedicate this lifetime to delve into research; she thought that if she figured out An Xin, she might be able to get a step closer to Main God.
And since she wanted to research artificial intelligence, it was necessary to participate in the robot competition.
Maybe, she would meet some interesting people there.
Having made up her mind, Anning went back to discuss with Song Ruyi about taking a break from some classes.
Song Ruyi initially thought Anning was too tired and wanted to stop studying so many things.
She readily agreed.
After that, Anning went to ask Zhao Han for money.
What she wanted was not pocket money, but funds to create a firewall for the company.
After all, making a robot required purchasing a lot of materials, all of which cost money.
Zhao Han didn’t ask what Anning wanted to do; when Anning asked for money, he gave it to her.
In the following period, Anning was extremely busy.
She didn’t work on the robot at home but rented a warehouse outside, got someone to tidy it up, and moved all the purchased materials there.
After school, she would rush to the warehouse to conduct various experiments.
It was tough for Anning to build a robot alone.
She had to handle every aspect herself, and she often came home exhausted.
After a few days, Song Ruyi had a talk with Anning.
"Ningning, what are you busy with lately? Your Teacher Wu told me you’ve been distracted in class, and also, you’re coming home so late every day. Is something going on?"
Song Ruyi spoke while trying to observe Anning’s expressions.
Anning was very calm: "It’s nothing. I’m just working on something. I’ll be pretty busy for a while, but I’ll speak to Teacher Wu about it tomorrow."
Song Ruyi didn’t pry into what Anning was working on, but she cautioned her: "Be safe, and don’t get too tired."
Anning smiled and nodded: "Mom, don’t worry."
But how could Song Ruyi not worry? After contemplating for a long time, she still decided to have the driver, Old Li, follow Anning.
Old Li was a veteran who had worked for the Zhao Family for many years. He was a steady driver with good combat skills, and Song Ruyi felt reassured with him around.
Anning didn’t mind and took Old Li with her to the warehouse every day.
Once there, Old Li would play with his phone while she conducted experiments.
Old Li, observing the high-tech feel of the warehouse arranged by Anning, and the sophisticated parts she made, almost questioned his existence.
He almost thought Anning was one of those lifetime researchers, a quirky old man with graying hair like the ones in TV dramas,
rather than a blooming high school student.
However, Old Li was very discreet and didn’t speak about Anning’s activities to anyone. Even when he went home, he didn’t mention a word to his children or wife.
In this way, after about a month of busy work, Anning finally completed the first robot.
That day, after school, Anning called over Xiao Yuan and Zhang Ke and a few other boys: "Do you have a moment? If you’re free, help me with something."
Xiao Yuan hadn’t spoken to Anning for a long time.
Anning timed her arrival at school with the bell and ran off once classes were over, making it impossible for Xiao Yuan to catch her.
He’s been quite troubled lately.
But as soon as he heard Anning asking for his help, he immediately agreed with a smile: "I’m not busy, just tell me what you need."
Xiao Yuan agreed to help, and as Xiao Yuan’s good bro, Zhang Ke naturally joined him.
A few other boys also said they wanted to help.
So Anning led these boys out of the school and then asked them, "Whose family has a pickup truck?"
This was indeed a tough question.
The families of these students were either rich or noble, all used to riding in luxury cars; who would bother to own a pickup?
Xiao Yuan quickly raised his hand: "I have one, I got one."
Anning eyed him for a while and then let Old Li follow Xiao Yuan to drive the car.
Whereas Anning and Zhang Ke and the others took a taxi to the warehouse.
Old Li was relieved because there were a few boys with Anning.
Only after Anning and others hailed a taxi did Old Li and Xiao Yuan take a taxi to his home.
Once in the taxi, Xiao Yuan asked the driver, "Where is the nearest auto city around here, the kind where you can buy pickup trucks?"
The taxi driver mentioned a place, and Xiao Yuan said, "Alright, hurry over, make it quick, I’m in a rush."
Old Li was shocked: "Xiao, you... doesn’t your family have a pickup? Why are we still going to the auto city?"
Xiao Yuan waved his hand: "Who has a pickup? We’re going to buy one now, and then we’ll have one."
Old Li: ...
Xiao Yuan even patted Old Li on the shoulder to comfort him: "No worries, it’s not that expensive anyway, and don’t tell Anning we’re buying it on the spot."
What could Old Li say?
Xiao Yuan was in a hurry; they quickly found a pickup truck at the auto city, promptly paid for it, and got the vehicle.
Old Li drove the brand-new pickup truck with Xiao Yuan to the warehouse.
When they arrived, they could hear crying and howling from the warehouse from far away.
Xiao Yuan was anxious, jumped out of the car and ran inside: "What are these guys doing? Don’t scare Anning."
Old Li was quite calm though.
He followed Xiao Yuan inside.
Upon entering the warehouse door, they saw Zhang Ke and the others howling around the robot.
"Anning, I didn’t expect you to be so capable, had I known you were this amazing, I wouldn’t have bothered watching any robotics competition, I could just watch you."
Xiao Yuan got so angry, he slapped Zhang Ke aside.
He then stepped forward and grabbed Anning’s hand: "Anning, you are really awesome, fantastic, too..."
Anning almost rolled her eyes: "You claim I’m great before knowing what I’ve done."
"Anyway, you’re just amazing."
Xiao Yuan wasn’t embarrassed at all and thick-skinnedly changed the subject: "I’ve brought the pickup, what are we going to do next?"
Anning pointed to the silver robot and said, "Help Uncle Li lift it into the truck, I need to take this thing back home."
"Okay."
Upon hearing he was to perform a task for Anning, Xiao Yuan was full of energy.
He rolled up his sleeves, and along with Zhang Ke and the other students, went to lift the robot.
However, the robot, though not very large, was very heavy.
Xiao Yuan and the others tried but couldn’t lift it.
Xiao Yuan asked Anning, "Why make it so heavy? Why not use lighter materials?"
Anning smiled: "Isn’t it meant to be a combat robot? If it’s too light, it can easily get tossed over by other robots in a fight."
That made sense.
In the end, it was with Old Li lending a hand that the group managed to lift the robot onto the pickup truck with great effort.
Anning then found a piece of black cloth to cover the robot, securing it before letting Old Li drive home.
