"I didn't expect you to actually come visit the set," Su Han said to Yang Mi with a smile.
"Why wouldn't I? We agreed on it," Yang Mi replied.
"I thought you were just joking around, trying to amuse the staff."
Yang Mi smiled and handed Su Han a bowl of douhua. "Here, dessert I brought for you. There's plenty more, like corn soup, grass jelly, and taro balls. You can switch them up."
Yang Mi truly doted on her staff, buying lots of food to bring to Su Han.
They sat down together, sipping soup and chatting.
It was half-past nine in the evening, and the breeze was still quite cool.
Drinking sweet soup and talking at this hour was indeed quite comfortable.
"I saw you filming just now. I didn't expect you to be so good at acting, without any retakes."
Yang Mi took a sip of the corn sweet soup, looking at Su Han.
"It's alright. Actually, when I was acting, I deliberately held back a bit, not showing my full capability."
"What?! Brother Su Han, you're saying you haven't even fully expressed yourself yet?" Reba exclaimed, looking at Su Han in surprise.
Su Han nodded. "Yes. If I had truly performed at a hundred percent, I probably wouldn't have been able to control my emotions."
After all, when he acted, he activated his character templates. Once he started acting, he truly entered the world where that character's events genuinely happened. For others, they were filming, but for Su Han, it was something that truly occurred in his life, not just acting. He hadn't realized this when playing Feng Yuxiu before, which led to him accidentally hospitalizing people multiple times. But this time was different. With the lessons learned from the past, he had begun to understand how to control himself, preventing himself from becoming too unhinged.
"Brother Su Han, how do you manage that?"
"This is the first time I've heard someone say they have to control their emotions to prevent themselves from performing better. I'm always worried about not conveying enough emotion, not getting into the character's mindset, and not being able to act out that feeling." Reba blinked her eyes, looking at Su Han with great curiosity.
Su Han looked at Reba and smiled.
"The reason you feel that way is because you haven't truly understood the character. You haven't personally stepped into that character's world, haven't truly become the character themselves."
"In my opinion, acting isn't just about pretending. I believe that only by truly becoming the character oneself can there be no pretense; all that happens are genuinely the character's own experiences."
"Once you enter a role, you'll discover that our emotions are much higher than at any other time. It's not something we can control just because we want to."
Su Han explained this very seriously to Reba, and Yang Mi also listened intently. Yang Mi initially thought he was just trying to impress the young girl, but upon listening closely, she realized there was genuine insight. However, to achieve what Su Han described, to truly believe oneself to be the character, was incredibly difficult. If everyone could achieve this, the film industry would likely be filled with countless Best Actress and Best Actor awards.
"Wow, Brother Su Han, you're amazing. I feel like I can't do that when I act, like you said." Reba looked at Su Han and sighed deeply.
Su Han smiled. "It's normal if you can't. If everyone could do it, wouldn't there be many Best Actors and Actresses in the world?"
His words echoed exactly what Yang Mi was thinking. Because of this, Yang Mi shivered slightly and looked at him in astonishment. Then, Yang Mi asked him meaningfully, "So, what you're saying is, you have the potential to become a Best Actor?"
"Alright, let's get back to work, get back to work!" Director Mai and Director Liu called out, conveniently interrupting Yang Mi's question.
Su Han smiled. "Of course. Don't you believe I have that ability?" He retorted, then turned to go back to filming.
This left Yang Mi and Reba looking at each other. Reba still had a fangirl look, appearing smitten. Seeing her like this, Yang Mi looked at Su Han's retreating figure and shook her head helplessly. "Hey? You know, this person, sometimes his self-confidence is just strangely bizarre."
"Sister Mi, don't you think Brother Su Han has a natural charisma?"
"What charisma?"
"Thwack!" Yang Mi lightly hit Reba on the head. "I think you've never seen a man before!"
"Ouch, that hurt!" Reba said, wincing.
"Quick, quick, they're filming again. Let's keep watching Brother Su Han's performance and learn how he gets into character."
"I think what he said is so magical, that he can truly believe he is the character itself. Of course, I know that's the right direction, but it's just too difficult."
Yang Mi added, "What he's talking about is indeed very difficult to achieve. It's not something ordinary people can comprehend or accomplish. That's why film academies exist."
"I feel like he doesn't follow a normal person's path. It's hard to learn acting from him."
