537: Chapter 537 I’ll Bite You to Death 537: Chapter 537 I’ll Bite You to Death Spirit Mountain, a hill on the southern outskirts of Donglin City, was hardly a towering peak, but for a coastal city like Donglin where mountains were scarce, it was indeed a treasure.
Driving there took nearly forty minutes, but since Tangyu and his companions had set out quite early, the journey was smooth.
Though they arrived early, the mountain was already buzzing with activity; many local elderly residents enjoyed their daily morning hike, and the vast Donglin City had plenty of weekend hikers too.
By mid-morning, Spirit Mountain would undoubtedly bustle with visitors.
After parking the car and grabbing some simple equipment, the group of four started their ascent.
Of course, Tangyu was the one carrying the gear.
After the quartet had begun their climb, a black car pulled up, and four men stepped out, wrapped up tightly—three Caucasians and one African.
Each of them carried a long bag, swollen with unknown contents.
“That little bastard thwarted our plans twice, causing us to fail our mission and killed one of our comrades.
We of the Knights’ Order must make him pay in blood.
If we don’t kill him, our mission will be difficult to accomplish,” a Knight said with a chilling face.
“We could just shoot him and be done with it, why follow him all the way here?”
“No, we strike in a secluded place.
We’re not afraid of death, but we have a mission to carry out and can’t risk exposing ourselves too soon.
After killing that little bastard, we’ll move on to fulfil our task.
This mission is a matter of life and death; fail, and we face death upon return.
The Donglin City police are onto us after yesterday’s incident, so we must be swift and decisive,” the Knight stated.
The African man stealthily approached Guo Momo’s Land Rover, glancing around to ensure no one was watching him, then quickly crouched down attaching something to the underside of the vehicle—clearly an explosive.
Having done that, the four blended in like regular hikers and headed up the mountain.
As they left, a head popped out of another nearby car, lips curled in a cold smirk: “These few foreign devils think they can kill my boss?
Let’s go, guys, and take them down.”
Inside the car were Xu Hu, He Ganlian, He Lengzi, Deng Li, and Xiaoyu’s trusted henchman.
Deng Li spoke: “Xiaoyu, are we really going to kill people?”
With a smile, Xiaoyu looked at Deng Li: “If you don’t kill them, they’ll kill you.
They’re not ordinary thugs; they’re professional assassins.
They might not be as strong as you in combat, but they have guns, and their assassination skills are certainly superior to yours.
If you don’t act, you’re the one who will die, and now is not the time for mercy.
I know it’s your first time, but those are internationally wanted killers, criminals of the worst kind.
I told you before, you didn’t have to come, but you insisted on following.
In our line of work, fights and killings are inevitable.”
Deng Li clenched his teeth, his eyes hardening: “How could I not come when Master is in trouble?
I will take care of myself.”
“Alright, stay with Brother Hu later for backup,” Xiaoyu said.
Then the six of them quickly exited the vehicle, stealthily following under Xiaoyu’s lead.
In terms of surveillance abilities, Xiaoyu was undoubtedly the strongest, and also an expert in this area.
Spirit Mountain was fairly easy to climb, as there was a dedicated hiking trail.
Guo Momo and the other two were chatting and laughing; climbing such a mountain wasn’t really tiring.
Tangyu followed them, his gaze vigilantly sweeping the surroundings.
Although Xiaoyu’s team had been called in to set up defenses, Tangyu believed in being over-prepared rather than complacent—a single slip-up could prove costly.
That morning, Tangyu had anticipated that the assassins from the previous night would come after him again.
Given their tracking skills and intelligence network, locating him would not have been difficult, thus he continued to hike with Guo Momo and the others to lure them out for a decisive confrontation.
Leaving such a serious threat at large was not something Tangyu was comfortable with, as constantly worrying about being targeted by assassins was indeed vexing.
In the woods, the four Knights’ Order members spread out, forming two pairs flanking Tangyu’s trail on either side, waiting for the optimal moment to strike.
When Tangyu’s group reached the midpoint of the mountain, they encountered a small waterfall.
Zhao Yaya immediately complained of being tired and wanted to rest there.
Although she proclaimed exhaustion, her playful nature soon had her kicking off her shoes and splashing into the water barefoot.
Guo Momo and Lin Feifei took a seat on the rocks to rest while Tangyu continued to survey the area inconspicuously.
The terrain here was exceedingly vulnerable to snipers; should one get into position, there would be no escape for Tangyu as the area was low-lying with no cover available.
If Xiaoyu and his team failed, Tangyu’s life would indeed be at risk, but he still trusted in Xiaoyu’s abilities and was willing to take that gamble.
“What are you looking at?” Lin Feifei asked Tangyu with concern.
Tangyu diverted his gaze and shook his head with a smile, “Nothing, I just thought the scenery here was quite nice, so I was taking a look.”
“Are you sure there’s nothing on your mind?” Lin Feifei probed further, noting that Tangyu’s demeanor had been somewhat distant all day and it wasn’t likely just about appreciating the view; he might have some concerns.
“Really, nothing.” Tangyu replied.
Lin Feifei didn’t press further, and the two sat silently, while Zhao Yaya played joyously in the water, embodying the innocence and vivacity of a young girl, radiating charm and energy.
“Knight, Knight, I’m in position, the target locked.
Can I take the shot?” asked the African sniper assassin.
“Take the shot!”
The Knight’s order was issued, but at that moment, a glint of cold steel flashed through the air.
As the African assassin reached for the trigger, an icy dagger was plunged into the back of his head.
Crimson blood spurted out like a geyser; the assassin couldn’t even utter a final scream before his head slumped, lifeless.
The comrade next to him turned pale, spinning around and aiming to shoot, but a perfectly placed bullet already pierced through his skull, creating a brilliant spray of blood—a crimson hole opened in his forehead, eyes wide in shock before his body slumped to the ground.
Little Fish and his capable subordinates walked up to the two assassins’ bodies and stripped off their equipment, “Well, well, all fancy foreign stuff, these assassins really aren’t ordinary, are they?
Tsk, tsk, I like this pistol; it’s mine now.
**Guns we can’t use, so let’s leave them here, gotta leave something for the cops.”
On the other side, the two teams composed of Xu Hu, He Ganlian, He Lengzi, and Deng Li were closing in on the Knight and another assassin from both flanks.
Both Xu Hu and He Ganlian knew how to shoot; Lengzi and Deng Li had an aversion to guns, neither of them knew how to use them.
“Blackie, why are you not shooting yet?” Qi Gan asked coldly through the headset, when suddenly his brows furrowed tightly, sensing a dangerous presence closing in on them.
In front of the waterfall.
“Hmm, did I just hear gunshots?” Guo Momo said with a sudden frown.
Lin Feifei listened intently, “I don’t think so, I didn’t hear anything.
There are many sounds in the mountains, why would there be gunshots here, Momo, you might have heard wrong?”
Tangyu glanced at Guo Momo, thinking her hearing was really sharp to be able to detect such subtle gunshots.
The shots were evidently equipped with silencers.
If one wasn’t close, it would be very difficult to hear them, and even if one did, it would be hard to distinguish them as gunshots.
After listening carefully again and not hearing gunshots anymore, Guo Momo shook her head, “Maybe, I might have been mistaken.”
Minutes later, Tangyu’s phone rang.
It was Little Fish calling.
Tangyu stood up and moved aside before answering.
Little Fish’s voice came through the phone, “Boss, it’s all taken care of.
Some foreign professional assassins, they’re nothing much after all, easily wiped out by us.
But Brother Hu and the others were less impressive, they even startled the snake in the grass.
If it wasn’t for being outnumbered, they might have been at a disadvantage.
All four assassins, all taken down.”
“Good job, good job.
Leave the rest to the cops.
You guys head back first,” Tangyu said.
“Alright boss, then I won’t disturb you from whispering sweet nothings with the three sisters-in-law,” Little Fish said with a laugh, and then promptly hung up the phone.
Hearing Little Fish’s words, Tangyu shook his head with a smile.
Accepting Guo Momo was feasible.
But Zhao Yaya, for the time being, was harder for Tangyu to accept, as he still preferred to see her as a younger sister.
Sometimes, however, the feelings this ‘little sister’ gave off weren’t so little.
The thought left Tangyu somewhat conflicted.
“We’ve rested enough; let’s continue hiking.
We’re only halfway up,” Tangyu went back and said.
“Okay,” Lin Feifei and Guo Momo stood up, Zhao Yaya was also done playing and energetically put on her shoes after drying her feet, looking more vigorous to climb.
After being teased by Little Fish just now, Tangyu remained preoccupied with that issue, and his gaze couldn’t help but fall on Zhao Yaya.
He accidentally caught a glimpse of her burgeoning chest, more prominent than Lin Feifei’s, this slightly plump girl actually looked quite attractive, and thinking of her in that little camisole dress made it hard not to fantasize.
“Big brother good guy, why is your face red?
Why are you looking at me with such lecherous eyes?
You’re not thinking of doing something to me, are you?” Zhao Yaya’s voice suddenly rang out.
Thud—
Tangyu’s legs gave out, and he fell to the ground, quickly climbing back up.
“Hehe, just joking with you.
Why so tense?” Zhao Yaya said with a smile.
“No, I just wasn’t paying attention and tripped over a rock.
The mountain road is hard to navigate; you guys should also be careful not to fall,” Tangyu said.
“Giggle, big brother good guy, I just love to see you lie, it’s so cute,” Zhao Yaya said.
“…” Tangyu was instantly speechless.
As they were walking, suddenly Zhao Yaya let out a cry of pain, “Ah, it hurts so much, I’ve been bitten by a snake.”
Everyone immediately stopped, and Zhao Yaya was already sitting on the ground, her face in agony.
Guo Momo looked around with slightly furrowed brows, “Where’s the snake?
Yaya, did you see wrong?
We haven’t seen any snake.”
“I don’t know, I just got bitten by something, and it hurts like death.
If it wasn’t a snake, then it’s something else.
I’ve heard that things in the mountains are very poisonous, and this much pain means it must be very poisonous.
Good guy big brother, you need to check it out for me quickly, it hurts so much,” Zhao Yaya said.
“I didn’t see anything either, stop pretending and get up,” Tangyu said.
“I swear I’ll bite you, I’m not pretending, look.” Zhao Yaya glared at Tangyu and said, pulling up her trouser leg to reveal a swollen purple bruise with a tiny wound at its center.
