Chapter 337 The Strange Zone

"The number of zombies is indeed problematic, Brother Lu. Have you noticed that there seem to be zombies continuously moving into Luocheng from outside the city?"

Lin Yu killed zombies while observing the surrounding situation.

He keenly noticed that the zombies in the distance, before being attracted to this area, were all facing the direction of Luocheng, and they were gathering towards Luocheng.

"Could it be that there's a high-level zombie inside Luocheng attracting them?"

They had encountered such situations before, so the unusual behavior of these zombies immediately led them to this line of thought.

Lu Heng didn't say anything. He would release Lin Xue once they entered Luocheng, and then they would know if it was a high-level zombie issue.

However, both he and Lin Yu tacitly quickened their pace towards Luocheng.

"Wait a moment, you go back first and rendezvous with those two teams, then we'll gather at the government building."

Having already entered Luocheng, Lu Heng estimated the time and said to Lin Yu.

"Okay, I'll kill for a bit longer. It'll probably take them a while to reach the edge of Luocheng."

Lu Heng nodded and waved his hand, killing the zombies surging from the left.

...

"Master, there's an area in the middle of the city without any zombies."

Just after Lin Yu left on a roc, the golden eagles reported to Lu Heng via telepathy the information they had observed from above Luocheng.

They had watched for a while and reported to Lu Heng only after repeatedly confirming.

"No zombies?" Lu Heng frowned. Despite the large number of zombies being drawn towards him, there was an area within the city devoid of them.

"Are there humans?"

"No, no moving objects were seen."

Lu Heng frowned. He waved his hand around him, using his earth element ability to expand an area that could accommodate the roc's takeoff, and killed all the zombies within the circle.

With their scent blocked by the earth wall, the zombies outside seemed to have lost their target. However, some of the running zombies couldn't stop and crashed into the earth wall.

Lu Heng ignored the zombies outside. These zombies were dense and continuous, likely coming from the surrounding areas.

Getting on the roc, Lu Heng quickly ascended to high altitude and headed towards the golden eagles' direction.

Flying near the golden eagles, he looked down. Indeed, there was a considerable area completely devoid of zombies.

"Hmm? Is that the government building?"

Lu Heng's gaze shifted to the left, and he clearly saw a magnificent building.

There was also an open space in front of the building, but it was currently crowded with zombies.

Lu Heng controlled the roc and flew over.

However, as he attempted to cross that zombie-free area, the roc seemed to hit something, and its body instantly plummeted.

Lu Heng reacted swiftly. He summoned another roc in mid-air, and a vine instantly latched onto the leg of the newly emerged roc, pulling the falling, seemingly unconscious roc into his spatial dimension.

"Fly towards the area with zombies. Do not touch that high-altitude area without zombies."

Fortunately, they had flown high enough, preventing Lu Heng and the roc from directly falling into the zombie horde below.

Lu Heng quickly adjusted his body, climbed onto the back of the new roc via the vine, and issued rapid commands.

This zombie-free area was bizarre.

Perhaps this was the reason for the disappearance of that team.

The new roc carried Lu Heng, circling above the zombies. Lu Heng carefully observed the zombies below.

Since Lu Heng had masked his and the roc's presence in the air, the zombies below did not detect the anomaly above.

The zombies were gathered and wandering outside the zombie-free area, but they seemed to have encountered some barrier below.

The zombies' bodies hit an invisible wall, causing them to instantly change direction and wander elsewhere.

"A barrier?"

"No way?"

This was a world without cultivators, how could such an absurd thing exist?

But if it wasn't a barrier, what else could it be?

The roc had suddenly collided with something, and so had the zombies below.

Lu Heng raised his gaze and looked at the zombie-free area.

Then, a vine suddenly shot out from his hand, striking towards the area without zombies.

With a bang, the vine was indeed obstructed, hitting some invisible object.

"Physical?"

He retracted the vine and looked at the spot where it had made contact. There was no scorching or cutting.

"Let's head to the government building first."

He still wanted to check if there were any surviving humans there. Their purpose for coming was to rescue people.

Lu Heng landed on the rooftop of the government building, following the vine. There were no zombies here.

He then recalled the roc into his space and summoned the golden eagle, tying a message cylinder to its leg.

He intended to inform Lin Yu of his discoveries within Luocheng and instruct them to wait for his news outside the city, temporarily changing their plan to not enter the city yet.

"Go find Lin Yu and deliver this message."

The golden eagle soared into the sky again, heading in the direction Lu Heng had come from.

Lu Heng walked to the edge of the building and looked at the zombies below. If the team from Wuming City had been here, the situation he saw below would not be like this.

He wouldn't claim all the zombies here were eliminated, but the density of zombies definitely wouldn't be like this.

He went to the safety door on the rooftop. As expected, the door was locked. Looking through the glass on the safety door, he saw no zombies behind it.

This area was temporarily safe. Lu Heng summoned Lin Xue on the rooftop.

"Are there any high-level zombies nearby?"

Lu Heng wanted to know if the gathered zombies were controlled by a high-level zombie.

"No, the highest is only level five."

Lin Xue sensed for a moment, then shook its head and communicated with Lu Heng via telepathy.

A level five zombie couldn't control so many zombies from a distance, so the zombie aggregation in Luocheng had nothing to do with high-level zombies.

Standing on the rooftop, Lu Heng looked again at the area where no zombies were active.

It gave him a strange sense of familiarity.

Lu Heng and Lin Xue flashed back into his space. The roc from earlier seemed to have been knocked unconscious, and he hadn't checked its condition yet.

That was the first male roc he had contracted. It could change its body size, making it more useful than the other female rocs. It couldn't die.

As soon as Lu Heng returned to his space, he saw the giant bird's body lying on the ground outside the apartment building.

He also heard Fatty Hu and the others gathered around the roc discussing, "Is it dead?"

Lu Heng...

Without Lu Heng's knowledge, a red light flashed again in the chest of the robot lying on the ground in his high-dimensional space.
