Chapter 416 Ungrateful Wretch

Su Sangong watched Gao Jun and Yuan Yang interacting with his younger sister, his expression growing increasingly displeased.

His sister was capable and talented, having been doted on and cherished within their family.

She had come to help them today, so why should she be subjected to mistreatment?

Su Xiaomei, though generally mild-mannered, harbored many dissatisfactions with Gao Jun and Yuan Yang.

She had heard from Shen Zizhen that the reason these two students were selected for the experimental field was that they were from rural backgrounds among the same cohort of students.

Ever since arriving at the experimental field, these two had held themselves in high regard, believing they had earned their place in the experimental field group through their own merit.

Consequently, they looked down on Su Sangong and Su Xiaomei, believing they had joined the team through nepotism.

When Shen Zizhen was present, it was manageable. But in his absence, these two would often make sarcastic remarks, their tones dripping with irony.

However, for the sake of team unity, Su Xiaomei had never mentioned these issues to Shen Zizhen, believing that in time, everything would become clear.

But their treatment of Xiao Tian made Su Xiaomei feel quite unhappy.

Xiao Tian was incredibly capable. When she was only seven or eight years old, she had already helped increase grain yields for the production brigade. Years later, Xiao Tian’s knowledge had become even more profound. Who wouldn't praise such a young girl?

On what grounds did they look down on Xiao Tian?

What abilities did they possess to look down on Xiao Tian?

“What do you mean by this?”

Before Su Sangong and Su Xiaomei could speak, Shen Zizhen spoke first.

“Teacher, we just feel that one should only take on responsibilities commensurate with their abilities.”

As Yuan Yang spoke, he cast a pointed glance at Su Xiaotian.

*Hmph, a mere girl, trying to get a share of the pie!*

Initially, Shen Zizhen seemed acceptable, but who knew he was also biased, solely considering his own family’s interests.

Upon hearing their words, Shen Zizhen suddenly lost the desire to converse politely with them.

“The combined abilities of you two together are not as great as Xiao Tian’s,” Shen Zizhen sighed.

The two were clearly taken aback by Shen Zizhen’s directness, momentarily stunned!

“I know you don’t believe this, but if you don’t believe me, you can watch from the side.”

Shen Zizhen had complete faith in Su Xiaotian.

Su Xiaotian, however, completely ignored the two. She took the materials from her brother and sister, sat quietly in a corner, and began to study them, focused and serene.

But the more Su Xiaotian behaved this way, the more uncomfortable Yuan Yang and Gao Jun felt.

By this point, their faces had darkened.

They exchanged a look, then turned and walked out of the experimental field.

Shen Zizhen assumed they were leaving out of embarrassment and paid them no mind.

As for Su Sangong, he had intended to follow them out to argue, but Su Xiaomei stopped him.

“Sangong, there’s no need to be aggressive. When Xiao Tian solves the problem, they can apologize to her!”

Su Xiaomei spoke softly, careful not to disturb Su Xiaotian.

Although Su Sangong didn’t want Xiao Tian to suffer these grievances in vain, just as Su Xiaomei said, once the problem was solved, everything would be resolved smoothly.

Shen Zizhen watched their retreating figures and sighed, then said to Su Sangong and Su Xiaomei, “You two, come over here. Let’s continue our discussion and see if we can find any new breakthroughs.”

Shen Zizhen began to consider whether these two should continue to remain on the team.

People who are ambitious but lack the skills are the most problematic, especially in their line of work. If they cannot settle down and do the work, there will be endless future troubles.

“Teacher, they…” Su Sangong asked.

“Don’t worry about it. Perhaps since they arrived at university, they’ve been in the laboratory and already think they are superior to others!”

Su Xiaomei thought, isn’t that exactly it?

It seems that sometimes, their arrogance needs to be tempered.

Young people need to experience some setbacks!

The three of them then quietly began their research, not giving the two who had left a second thought.

When one is focused, time always passes exceptionally quickly.

In the blink of an eye, an hour had passed. Su Sangong looked up and saw Su Xiaotian still frowning, writing and drawing on the paper.

He wondered if she had found any direction yet.

These two days were critical. If the problem could not be resolved properly, and this opportunity was missed, they would have to wait for the next round.

They could wait, but could the vast farmlands of the country wait?

With every increase in yield from the seeds they cultivated, the nation’s grain production would increase.

Su Sangong believed that if they persevered year after year, once grain production increased significantly, the people of the nation would all be well-fed, and no one would go hungry again.

As Su Sangong was thinking, he suddenly heard noisy commotion from outside.

Su Xiaomei and Shen Zizhen also looked towards the main gate, only to see a large crowd of people arriving.

What was going on?

The three looked at each other in bewilderment.

This experimental field was planned separately, and few people usually visited. Why had so many people arrived at once today?

Shen Zizhen stood up and walked towards the main gate.

He did not want unrelated people to intrude.

This experimental field was the culmination of his hard work.

As he got closer, Shen Zizhen saw clearly that it was the principal himself who had arrived, followed by many people. Among them were two familiar figures – it was Yuan Yang and Gao Jun!

Wait a moment, there was someone to the left and front of the principal. He looked somewhat familiar. Who was this person?

Shen Zizhen was an academic. He would forget some people after seeing them once, not keeping them in mind at all.

He racked his brain, trying to recall who this person was and when he had met them.

Meanwhile, Su Xiaotian, who had been diligently studying the materials, was also awakened by the commotion.

She turned her head to look and saw that standing at the very front was none other than Director Wu, whom she had met just the previous night!

Su Xiaotian put down the materials in her hand and then stood up, walking towards Director Wu.

Seeing Su Xiaotian approaching, Shen Zizhen quickly called out, “Xiao Tian, come over here first!”

Even in his confusion, Shen Zizhen understood at this moment that Gao Jun and Yuan Yang had gone to complain.

He had not expected these two to have such influence, to the point of alarming the principal.

He had underestimated them.

Su Sangong and Su Xiaomei, standing behind Shen Zizhen, also understood.

They clenched their fists tightly.

Well done, Yuan Yang, well done, Gao Jun, to resort to complaining!

Did they feel wronged in this experimental field?

Had they forgotten that if they hadn’t joined this small team, in this vast university, who would have known who they were?

Would they have the prominence they had now?

They were truly ungrateful!

Did they really think that among so many students, there were no others more talented than them?

Hmph!

“Teacher Shen, is there a problem here?” the principal asked.
