Chapter 488: Chapter 29: A Wasp Pulls the Red Thread of Fate
Zhuo Feng stepped out of the house and saw Xiao Xian squatting by the faucet, washing a glass bottle.
"Xiao Xian, come and taste this. Your uncle and I both think the sweet potatoes we dug up this time have an especially good texture and high starch content," Zhuo Feng cleaned a sweet potato, cut it open, and handed a piece to Xiao Xian.
Living in the suburbs, they ate less fruit and gnawed on sweet potatoes daily. Initially, Zhuo Feng complained for quite a while but recently felt that his digestion and skin had improved a lot. Given the new sweet potatoes tasted really good, he couldn’t resist asking Xiao Xian to judge them.
"They are really tasty, exceptionally sweet and juicy," Xiao Xian chuckled hehe, shaking the glass bottle in his hand to dry it.
"Ah, isn’t that the glass bottle left over from the canned peaches? I remember I threw it at the doorway to wait for the garbage collectors to pick it up. How come you brought it back in," Zhuo Feng saw Xiao Xian wiped the bottle spotlessly clean and was curious about what he was up to.
Xiao Xian then dropped something into the bottle, and soon enough, the bottle emitted a glow like fireflies. It turned out to be fireflies indeed. Zhuo Feng just complimented her maturity and yet the next moment she was playing childishly again. Zhuo Feng made a few remarks then went back inside the house.
"Little master, why did you catch it, it’s actually a beneficial insect," Little White Jiao had seen the fierceness of wasps which could sting people severely.
"I obviously know it’s beneficial. Didn’t you notice the new sweet potatoes had a hint of honey? Even if my aunt doesn’t let me eat them, I can tell by looking—they have a sugar content higher by ten percent," A single wasp was enclosed in the glass bottle, but a light green layer adorned its vicinity, making it look hazy. That hazy green was actually a layer of Spiritual Energy making the inner appearance of the wasp quite blurry, seeming almost like a firefly from afar.
"Why catch it then? No wonder they say humans are the most ungrateful animals," Little White Jiao, relying on hiding in the space, spoke recklessly.
Little did Xiao Xian know, no sooner had she entered the house than she had also stepped back into the space.
She let the wasp out; it had been suddenly wrapped in Spiritual Energy around its legs, rendering it unable to flap its wings. This was an unprecedented situation for the wasp from the time it hatched. Being suddenly released, its first instinct was to flee for its life. Without realizing its direction, it mindlessly bumped into the flower bud of the sugarcane seedling.
After trying to change the blooming period of Vincetoxicum fern and roses with Spiritual Energy, Xiao Xian also attempted to infuse the limited Spiritual Energy in her body into the flower bud of the sugarcane seedling which had been growing for several months, to no avail. Upon seeing the wasp, she had a new idea; could it be that the space lacked the requisite conditions for the bud to bloom?
The environment in the space was basically the same as outside, with similar temperatures and sunlight. The only insufficiency was the absence of bees for spreading pollen and nectar. Ordinary bees wouldn’t care about sugarcane seedlings, but this wasp suited the task well.
The wasp was dazed for a moment on the flower bud, then woke up and joyously flapped its wings. It moved around the sugarcane seedling’s bud, facing up and down, preparing to jab into any suitable crevice it could find. Yet, after searching for a long time, it found no crevice to burrow into.
Little White Jiao finally understood Xiao Xian’s intention.
After a good while, the wasp, driven to desperation, aimed at the bud and stung it.
The Spiritual Energy in the space seemed to have changed.
"It seems one wasp isn’t impactful enough," Xiao Xian could feel that after the wasp stung it, the bud had a slight change—a change for the better.
After one sting, the wasp buzzed back, appearing to please Xiao Xian.
"I’ll let you go, but you have to bring a group of your companions back," Xiao Xian didn’t care whether the wasp could understand her words, she took it out of the space. Once out of the space, the wasp didn’t pause for a single moment and immediately flew out of the farm.
Xiao Xian didn’t chase after it, she turned around and went back into the space, breathing in and out with the sugarcane seedling, absorbing the new Spiritual Energy.
That lone wasp initially was intentional. Under Yezi’s breeding, the wasp’s reproductive capability had greatly increased. The lone wasp was unwilling to be subordinate to the Queen Bee, but couldn’t compete with the Queen Bee for the time being. On that evening tasked with an "official duty," the wasp sharply sensed that the crops in the farm under the influence of Space Immortal Liquid had far superior pollen and nectar compared to ordinary crops.
