While Xiao Xun remained unaware, a grand 'showcase' of skills was about to commence.
Currently, he was still fretting about how to have dinner that evening. Just then, Lei Wenxiu ran over. "Director, why are you personally coming down for meals? Usually, I bring them back to you in the office."
Lei Wenxiu's words drew many eyes towards them. Xiao Xun detested being the center of attention and pulled Lei Wenxiu aside. "Call me Director Xiao, or just my name. Why are you calling me 'Director'?"
Lei Wenxiu looked at Xiao Xun with a wronged expression. "No, isn't everyone supposed to call you that?"
Xiao Xun was momentarily speechless. "I... Anyway, don't call me that. Also, I can eat my own meals, you don't need to bring them for me. You don't even know what I like to eat."
As he spoke, he looked at Lei Wenxiu's employee ID. Lei Wenxiu followed Xiao Xun's gaze to her ample 'assets.' She crossed her arms over her chest. "That's not possible, Director."
Xiao Xun's face instantly flushed. "What are you thinking? My ID hasn't come down yet. I wanted you to get me some food first, and I'll pay you back later."
Upon hearing this, Lei Wenxiu let out a long sigh of relief. "Oh! You scared me, baby~"
Xiao Xun thought to himself, *What kind of anime freak is this? I have to ask Zhang Youwei later what his peculiar preferences are, why he insisted on choosing her as his assistant.*
Seeing Lei Wenxiu staring at him, Xiao Xun held out his hand. "Then give it to me!"
Lei Wenxiu stuck out her tongue and quickly took off her ID. "Sorry, I forgot."
If it weren't for the fact that she was a beautiful young girl of a similar age, he would have definitely spit out blood.
The dinner options were slightly fewer than at lunch, but there were hardly any repeats. So, Xiao Xun was very curious about where the leftover food from lunch had gone. However, that wasn't his concern.
He drank a bowl of eight-treasure congee, ate a basket of steamed buns, and sampled a few local specialties from different windows. Satisfied, he returned to the office.
Looking at the spacious office, now empty, he really wished he could buy a foldable bed and sleep there after work.
The project had been progressing smoothly recently. After handing over the revised system to the product development department, he didn't have any urgent tasks left.
He opened his computer and then the game's login interface, only to remember that his account had already been sold.
Suddenly, a notification popped up in the lower-right corner of the computer. "According to company regulations: office computers are not allowed to download third-party programs without authorization. An abnormal program startup has been detected on your desktop. It has been automatically uninstalled, and you have received one warning. For a second offense resulting in the leakage of company confidential information, severe disciplinary action will be taken at our discretion."
A slight smile played on Xiao Xun's lips. "You think you can monitor me?"
In moments, he created a virtual program. After opening it, he ran the background monitoring system within the virtual program. Except for a normal desktop display, the background detected nothing. He re-downloaded the game and, just in case, gathered all the icons into one folder.
However, with his injured left arm, even though the game was downloaded, he couldn't enjoy playing it. He could only watch movies to pass the time.
Perhaps he was truly tired, or perhaps he was too sleepy. As he watched, he lay back in his chair and fell asleep.
"Achoo~"
Xiao Xun woke up feeling cold. He looked at the finished movie playback page, yawned, and closed the movie.
He glanced at the time; it was past eleven. He decided he should go back to the internet café today to retrieve his belongings, just in case they were lost.
So, he hurried out of the office and found that everyone in the technical department had already left. The entire office area was dark, appearing very eerie.
He turned on his flashlight and took the elevator to the first floor. Fortunately, it was well-lit here, and there were security guards on duty.
He wanted to exit through the turnstiles but discovered that entry and exit required an employee ID. With no other option, he had to go to the security room.
There were four security guards in the room, two playing mobile games and two sleeping.
Seeing someone enter, the two awake guards instinctively stood up. Upon seeing a young man with no employee ID around his neck, their expressions immediately changed.
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm from the technical department. It's my first day working here, I don't have an ID, and I can't get out after finishing work."
The two security guards, without looking up from their phone screens, replied, "That's not right! We just finished patrolling the technical department's office area half an hour ago, and there was no one there."
"Perhaps because..."
"Director Xiao, still not home?"
A familiar voice sounded from behind him. Xiao Xun turned his head; it was Secretary Fan.
Hearing Secretary Fan's voice, the two security guards immediately stood up, forgetting about their games.
Xiao Xun looked at Secretary Fan. "Yes! I had something to attend to, just finished, and I can't get out without an ID."
Secretary Fan nodded and pointed inside. "I have a package that the front desk left with security. I'm here to pick it up."
Xiao Xun realized he was blocking Secretary Fan's path and quickly moved aside. The security guards, holding the package with both hands, handed it to Secretary Fan.
Secretary Fan checked it and found no issues. She then said to the guards, "This is our company's new Director Xiao."
The two security guards saluted Xiao Xun. "Hello, Director Xiao."
Xiao Xun gave an awkward smile.
Secretary Fan asked Xiao Xun, "By the way, where do you live? How will you get back?"
At this hour, public buses and the subway were long gone. "I'll take a taxi!"
Since Secretary Fan had asked, she naturally wouldn't let him go his own way. "No need, I'll give you a ride! It's on my way."
Xiao Xun asked a question that sounded like it came from a 'steel straight man': "But you don't even know where I live."
Secretary Fan had been amused by this young man twice already. She said, half-jokingly, "As long as it's not in outer space, it's on my way. Let's go! It's hard to get a taxi around here anyway, and I'm not working tomorrow."
Xiao Xun didn't ask for the reason and followed Secretary Fan to the underground parking lot. Most managers who worked here drove themselves. Of course, many, despite having cars, found the parking fees in this prime location quite expensive, so they wouldn't use them unless there was a special occasion.
Secretary Fan's car was a red sports car, though not the world-famous model.
It was Xiao Xun's first time in a sports car, and he didn't even know how to open the door.
Secretary Fan opened the car door for Xiao Xun. After he got into the passenger seat, she closed the door and moved to the driver's seat.
Xiao Xun looked left and right, feeling like he was practically lying down in the car.
The car had a mysterious and noble scent, similar to Secretary Fan's perfume.
After getting into the driver's seat, Secretary Fan didn't start the car immediately. Instead, she retrieved a pair of flat shoes from the extremely narrow back seat and casually tossed her peep-toe high heels to the back.
After changing her shoes, she closed the car door, fastened her seatbelt, and reminded Xiao Xun to fasten his as well.
However, Xiao Xun had no idea how to use a sports car's seatbelt. Secretary Fan, with a smile free of any mockery, leaned over and fastened the seatbelt for the blushing Xiao Xun.
As she returned to her seat, she smiled at him. Xiao Xun swallowed with difficulty.
With that done, Secretary Fan stepped on the brake, pressed the one-key start button, and the car instantly roared to life.
