The ornithopter finally reached the sea.
"Pull the altitude up, hard!" Jiang Ye's voice commanded. "Pull it to the highest point! The annihilation bomb might detonate upon contact with the sea!"
The pilot immediately yanked the control stick, and the ornithopter strained upwards.
The suicide squad members fumbled with their seatbelts, then neatly reached up to wipe the sweat from their brows. So much sweat had dripped into their eyes.
"Attach a parachute pack!" Jiang Ye said. "See if we can attach a parachute pack to the annihilation bomb!"
The suicide squad members pulled parachute packs from beneath their seats, ripped off the useless oxygen masks, and strapped them to the tail of the annihilation bomb. These parachute packs were dual-purpose, deployable manually or automatically at high speeds.
"Can't go any higher!" the pilot shouted. "Throw it!"
The cabin door swung open with a bang. The ornithopter hovered in the clouds, the white mist pierced by sunlight, resembling a luminous field. The squad members took two seconds to push the annihilation bomb out.
"Fly forward! Maximum speed!" Jiang Ye shouted.
The pilot had already accelerated. They had to escape a distance of five kilometers before the annihilation bomb hit the sea.
The suicide squad members all let out a collective sigh of relief, closed the cabin door, and re-buckled their seatbelts.
Everyone turned to look out the window, waiting in silence.
A thunderous roar made everyone's eyes widen.
"Report to command, the annihilation bomb should have detonated!" the pilot said. "We saw many... elongated fish flying!"
"I can't see from this angle. Take some photos and send them to me, avoiding the annihilation zone, and return immediately!" Jiang Ye said. "The budget for this mission has already been transferred to your accounts. In a few days, there will be an all-army commendation ceremony; prepare a speech."
"Yes!" the suicide squad members rejoiced.
The holographic projection closed. Jiang Ye leaned back in his seat, a chill running down his back. He realized he had been covered in cold sweat.
He took a long, deep breath. Both cities were safe. Now, all they needed was to deploy the unmanned bombers to eliminate the biochemical weapons the Mil people had thrown one by one.
After a moment of waiting, the photos and videos taken by the suicide squad members were transmitted.
Jiang Ye stared, stunned. So this was what an annihilation bomb looked like.
A massive vortex had formed on the vast sea surface, with a radius of five kilometers, impossibly large.
Countless amounts of seawater hung suspended in the air, slowly rising. At the bottom, the water was still in large masses, becoming smaller as it ascended, turning into a scene resembling rain, except it was almost still rain. Higher still, it became white mist like clouds.
It seemed that within the area of the annihilation bomb's explosion, gravity had completely failed; all the water could not fall.
Amidst the vast expanse of water, hundreds of thousands of fish, large and small, were also floating.
However, each fish was stretched incredibly long, almost becoming something like pulled noodles.
Like the seawater, the fish at lower altitudes looked relatively normal. But the higher they were suspended, the more bizarre the floating fish became, eventually turning into a cloud of powder, like dust blown by the wind.
Everything was annihilated.
Jiang Ye stared at the photos for a long time, his hair standing on end. He couldn't comprehend the scene. Everything in the explosion zone seemed to be evaporating, and in the process of evaporation, it was turning into a pile of molecules, or even atoms.
Furthermore, judging by the sound of the video, this evaporation and annihilation was completely silent. Tens of thousands of tons of water made not a single sound, not even the sea breeze seemed to move. The scene was reminiscent of a game bug, where models were stretched infinitely.
If the annihilation bomb had detonated in Petroleum City, perhaps all the buildings would have been uprooted, decomposed into countless bricks and steel bars in the air, and then further broken down into powder.
"We have bypassed the annihilation zone and expect to return in half an hour," the suicide squad member reported.
"Good, no rush. Fly steadily, and return victorious," Jiang Ye said.
His phone vibrated, and green subtitles simultaneously appeared on the large screen.
[Air Raid Warning Lifted!]
[Long-Range Strike Effective, Xin-class Ship Destroyed]
Few words, but immense significance.
A feeling of immense relief washed over him, like collapsing on the ground after finishing a marathon.
Jiang Ye was exhausted and couldn't bear it any longer. He temporarily left to use the restroom. He had been holding his urine for several hours, but he hadn't felt a strong urge due to the extreme tension. Now that he relaxed, his bladder was aching unbearably.
The sound of rushing water as he urinated seemed to have no end.
As a result, he fell asleep on the toilet.
...
A series of knocks on the glass startled Jiang Ye awake. Through the frosted glass of the toilet door, he could see Liu Jizi standing outside.
"Commander! You've been in there for an hour and a half! There are many messages from the troops!" Liu Jizi shouted. "Are you alright?"
Jiang Ye got up to pull up his pants. The toilet automatically flushed.
Emerging from the restroom, Jiang Ye gave a tired and embarrassed smile and returned to the control room.
There were many messages from Che Zhen. He was already waiting at the bomber base. As soon as Jiang Ye gave the order, the bombers could take off to destroy the biochemical weapons in Binhai City.
Jiang Ye replied with two words: "Approved!"
He sat in front of the large screen and used satellites to view Binhai City.
The entire Binhai City had vanished. In its place was a massive green cloud, dark green at the center, fading outwards. The outermost layer was a light green, like matcha cake, with some faint, tea-like gas dissipating outside the city in the wind.
A small gas generator had managed to create a massive amount of poisonous gas covering the entire city.
Jiang Ye deeply felt the terrifying gap in technology. The Mil people could throw anything at them, and they would be struggling to cope, on the verge of death.
Suddenly, a ball of fire erupted in the center of the green cloud.
The bombers had dropped their payload.
However, they couldn't see the situation on the ground, nor did they know if the target had been hit, or if it had been destroyed.
Jiang Ye sent a message to Che Zhen:
"Prepare some biochemical troops, wearing full-body chemical protective suits and gas masks, with no skin exposed. Take spider armored vehicles to Binhai City to observe the situation on the ground. Give me a holographic projection; I want to watch it in real-time."
"They are ready. A total of 12 people, in 6 spider armored vehicles, are en route to Binhai City," Che Zhen replied. "We just dropped a hundred bombs; they should have all landed around the gas generator."
The office door opened, and Liu Jizi pushed a meal cart in, placing the dishes on the table one by one.
Jiang Ye was also hungry. He grabbed his chopsticks and started eating. His physical exertion had been immense; the little food he had eaten earlier felt like air, offering no sustenance.
Halfway through his meal, the holographic projection suddenly popped up.
Jiang Ye froze. He saw the interior of a spider armored vehicle, occupied by two enormous... lizards!
Two soldiers, dressed from head to toe in newly produced chemical protective suits from the factory, were dark green, their fabric covered in bumps of various sizes, resembling lizard skin.
"Report to commander, we have entered the outskirts of Binhai City," said one of the lizard-like figures.
Another holographic projection appeared, showing the scene outside the spider armored vehicle.
Jiang Ye gasped, "Holy hell!"
