He worked for over three hours.
All ten thousand apartments had found owners, eight thousand sold and two thousand rented.
Many people had pooled their resources to buy or rent together, so these ten thousand apartments housed nineteen thousand people.
There were still a thousand people without a place to live.
Jiang Ye yawned repeatedly, posting the list of buyers in the group chat for everyone to confirm their information.
Moments later, someone spoke up.
"Hey @Jiang Ye, Commander, there are still a thousand people without homes, what about them?"
"Jiang Ye, don't just make money, there are still a thousand people without a place to live, say something! What should we do? You, the highest authority, should make arrangements."
"Yeah, make arrangements. I'm one of those thousand people. I don't have money, but you can't let me sleep on the streets, can you?"
A group of people chimed in.
Jiang Ye scratched his head and typed, "I'm thinking of a solution. Please be patient. Those who have already paid, please confirm your information first. If there are any errors, message me privately."
He intended to calm everyone down, but his message only led to more replies.
"Holy cow, you still haven't figured out a solution? Mr. Jiang Ye, forgive me for saying this, but you're an idiot!"
"Oh my god, this is really unreliable. We've already boarded the spaceship and arrived in just a couple of days, and there are still people without housing."
"Respected Commander, I have a suggestion. Let those who bought houses draw lots, and let the thousand people live with them."
"The person above is too unreliable. Why should they? That's not a solution!"
"You're all idiots, stop babbling. Let's wait for Commander Jiang to arrange it. Commander Jiang is definitely much smarter than you, so why are you all worrying?"
Jiang Ye watched the people in the group chat argue, his head starting to ache.
The immigrants from outer space were indeed different!
These people had a very free spirit, truly fearless of authority. They would speak their minds directly if they thought something was wrong, and they weren't afraid to be harsh.
You're the Commander? You're the supreme ruler of this planet? You have thousands of elite soldiers under your command?
So what? If you can't do things properly, I'll still call you an idiot!
They weren't afraid of being suppressed or anything. It was likely that the culture on their previous planet was like this, where the common people were very assertive and didn't hesitate to speak their minds to those in power.
Isabelle patted Jiang Ye's back and laughed merrily, "No restraint is not a man."
"I'll endure it!" Jiang Ye nodded.
After a moment of thought, he typed in the group chat.
Jiang Ye: "I sincerely apologize. I accept your criticism. It was indeed my oversight. I have a temporary solution. There are many residential areas in other cities. I'll inquire if any local residents are willing to share their homes with you. What do you all think of this plan?"
The group chat fell silent for a moment, and then the messages became more measured.
"That's great, ask quickly!"
"Sharing a place temporarily is fine. I'm willing."
"Commander Jiang is a good official. I take back my earlier insults."
"Okay, okay, I support it."
"We weren't criticizing you as a person, just saying that you didn't handle this matter properly. We are still grateful for your efforts on our behalf."
Jiang Ye switched to the public channel of Jiang Ye Star and posted a pinned notice, announcing the arrival of alien immigrants and soliciting local residents for shared housing.
However, after the message was sent, there was little response.
It was three in the morning, and everyone was asleep.
With no other option, he could only wait slowly.
Isabelle was very sleepy. She took off her outer coat, wearing only her underwear as she climbed onto the small office bed, burrowing under the covers and kicking out her fluffy, fair legs.
"When you don't go home, do you sleep on this bed?" Isabelle peeked her face out from under the covers, looking at Jiang Ye by the desk.
"Yes," Jiang Ye nodded. "If you're tired, rest first. I'm not sleeping; I'll solve this matter first."
"Do you sleep here alone, or do you cuddle with your female secretary in bed?" Isabelle asked with a mischievous grin.
"Nonsense! Of course, I sleep alone! Even a rabbit doesn't eat the grass near its burrow. Am I the kind of beast who would take advantage of his secretary!" Jiang Ye glared.
"Worse than a beast," Isabelle closed her eyes with a smile, pulled the blanket tighter, and began to sleep.
Jiang Ye's face darkened.
He really wanted to go over and kick her.
But a message came through the public channel. A few residents from Binhai City were willing to share their homes with the alien immigrants for a short period.
Jiang Ye messaged them privately, confirming various details, including the duration of the shared housing, location, rent, and so on.
More messages continued to come in through the channel, all expressing interest in renting.
By five o'clock, the messages had increased significantly, dozens at a time. It seemed many people had woken up and seen the notice on the channel.
Jiang Ye worked tirelessly, fighting off his drowsiness.
Finally, the thousand shared housing spots were filled.
He created another group chat, pulling in both the landlords and the refugee tenants, allowing them to coordinate directly.
The refugees were finally all settled. The only remaining task was to wait for their arrival.
Having not slept all night, Jiang Ye was as drowsy as a dead pig.
He glanced at the small bed in the corner. Isabelle was sleeping soundly. The office was warm, so she had kicked off the covers. Her fair body was sprawled out in a starfish position, dominantly occupying the entire bed.
Whether it was an illusion or not, Jiang Ye felt she had gained weight. The flesh on her thighs looked softer, and her waist seemed a bit thicker. Of course, she was still a beautiful woman with a great figure.
As good friends, Jiang Ye didn't have the heart to disturb her sweet dreams. So, he flattened the sofa, converting it into a sofa bed, and lay down to sleep.
...
He opened his eyes to find a furry, white arm pressed against his face.
Jiang Ye was dazed for a few seconds before he realized what was happening and turned around in alarm.
He was still lying on the sofa. His jacket had been removed, and he was only wearing his thermal underwear. Isabelle had somehow come over and was hugging him from behind. It wasn't a delicate, bird-like embrace, but more like a strong woman hugging a child. They were both under the same large blanket, and it was extremely hot.
Jiang Ye pried Isabelle's arm away and tried to wriggle out from under the blanket.
"Where are you going?" Isabelle reached out groggily, grabbing his waist. "Sleep."
"No, no, I'm awake now. I'm going to get up and work." Jiang Ye pulled her hand away.
Isabelle also woke up, her eyes opening hazily. She revealed a playful smile. "Hey, Jiang Ye, it's very comfortable sleeping while hugging you. It feels like hugging a son."
"Nonsense, it feels like hugging a father!" Jiang Ye stopped her from making cheeky remarks.
Isabelle glared at him. "You're talking nonsense, I'm your father!"
"You're my granddaughter!" Jiang Ye retorted.
"I'm your grandfather!"
"You're my great-grandson!"
After a few rounds of bickering, their generational order was completely mixed up.
Jiang Ye made a stopping gesture, halting the pointless argument.
"It's already eleven o'clock in the morning. After you eat, please go home, okay?" Jiang Ye pointed to the clock on the wall and picked up his clothes from the side of the sofa to put them on.
"I won't eat. I'm on a diet recently," Isabelle sat up, stretched, and also started to put on her clothes. "There's no more work for me to do, right? I've finished helping you, so I'm going home to sleep."
Jiang Ye watched her get dressed and walk towards the door. "Should I find someone to send you back?"
"No need. I appreciate your kindness." Isabelle waved her hand without looking back. "You go ahead and busy yourself."
