Chapter 4 Battlefield Phantom

Meanwhile, on the Iron Bone Mountain city battlefield.

Lisa and ten other female soldiers marched with slight tremors on the road.

Although the defense line here had been broken, and civilians were hiding in rooms, afraid to come out, these gun-wielding female soldiers felt no sense of security in this foreign land. They looked even more fearful than the civilians.

These were the teammates Sherry found on the battlefield, and the only reason she brought them along was not to fight, but to collect dog tags. Sherry could eliminate hundreds or thousands of people with a sweep of an energy beam, but collecting all the dog tags would take far longer than the battle itself. Thus, she had gathered these female soldiers to improve the efficiency of picking up dog tags. If not for the time wasted collecting dog tags, Sherry might already be drinking afternoon tea in the congressional office of the Mountain Ridge Country. It was truly unfortunate that Sherry was young and had a simplistic way of thinking when she entered the apocalypse. In reality, she could have simply held a knife to the throat of the Mountain Ridge Country's leader and demanded any amount of money.

"Look, there are bodies over there!" Lisa pointed to the location of the bridgehead. The entire bridge was intact, but all the tanks and infantry fighting vehicles around it were blasted to pieces, their dog tags and steel fused together, making them impossible to collect. The bunker at the bridgehead was also reduced to rubble. Thousands of soldiers' corpses lay scattered on the bridge defense fortifications and the bridge deck.

"Sisters, let's get to work!" Lisa assigned one soldier to stand guard while the others immediately bent down to pick up the dog tags.

"This is unbelievable, how did Sherry manage to kill so many enemies by herself?"

"Maybe she has superpowers. I saw news reports saying that various countries are vigorously recruiting people with superpowers, and they might become the main force on the battlefield in the future!"

"I'm exhausted. Just picking up dog tags makes me so tired. Even if these soldiers were standing here for me to kill, I'd die of exhaustion before I could finish them all!"

The female soldiers complained as they put the dog tags into their backpacks. They dared not keep any of the dog tags for themselves. Not only had Sherry saved their lives, but given Sherry's greedy nature, anyone who dared to touch a dog tag would be killed in the next second. Wasn't living a life with a 200,000 monthly subsidy more appealing?

Boom!

An explosion echoed from within the city. Lisa and the other female soldiers acted as if they hadn't heard it, continuing to pick up dog tags. They knew that Sherry was likely destroying another enemy defense fortification.

Indeed... Sherry, dusting off the dirt that had fallen on her, emerged from the smoke. Behind her, a thirty-story building collapsed with a roar. This building was an enemy defense stronghold, but now, it was completely gone.

"I hope Lisa and the others aren't slacking off. There are at least a few million dog tags here," Sherry muttered to herself, clapping her hands.

The enemy had intended to delay Sherry through street fighting. However, they didn't anticipate that Sherry possessed powerful sensory abilities. In the apocalypse, her sensory range could only extend to one or two blocks at most. But in this world with scarce energy, Sherry only needed to release her sensory abilities slightly. Instantly, more than half the city came into view. All the tall buildings seemed to turn transparent, allowing her to see the soldiers and civilians, their positions, all at a glance. Sherry activated her stealth ability, silently jumping into building after building, killing soldiers without a sound, and then heading towards another target.

At the command center, the commander was anxiously contacting officers at various defense points. "What's your situation? Did you see the enemy? How many are there? What high-tech weapons are they using?" the commander asked anxiously.

"Enemy? We haven't seen any enemies. Everything is calm. Perhaps the enemy hasn't attacked yet!" replied the officer.

"How is that possible? The defense point in front of you is no longer responding, and it's not radio interference; they're just not answering. This means the entire stronghold has been overrun. Haven't you heard any gunfire?" the commander asked in astonishment.

"What? The defense point in front of us is gone?"

"But... I haven't seen any soldiers retreat, nor have I heard any gunfire." The officer, while surprised, felt a chill creep up his spine.

"Hold your ground! You must hold your ground! Our heavy assault forces are on their way and will arrive in three hours!"

"I don't care what reason you use, but you must hold for at least one hour. Do you understand?"

"Hello? Hello?" the commander shouted into the microphone. But all he heard was the sound of the microphone being struck, followed by dead silence.

"Hello?" Suddenly, a clear female voice came from the other end of the call.

"Who are you?"

"You're the intruder, aren't you? How many of you are there, and what methods did you use?" the commander demanded sternly.

"Let's meet and talk..." Following that, the microphone emitted a busy signal.

"Prepare for evacuation, the enemy knows our location!" the commander said with a cold expression.

"Yes!" The soldiers beside him immediately began destroying files on their computers, and several soldiers escorted the commander quickly towards the helicopter waiting on the helipad.

Bang!

Suddenly, a figure descended from the sky, smashing the helicopter into a flat piece of metal. The high-speed rotating rotor blades snapped instantly upon hitting Sherry, sending her flying dozens of meters away, where they embedded deeply into the wall.

"Hello, the person on the phone, we meet at last!" Sherry said with a smile.

"Protect the commander, open fire!" The soldiers nearby pulled the commander and retreated into the room. Simultaneously, countless bullets were fired towards Sherry.

Clang clang clang!

Sherry waved her hands gently, blocking all the bullets. "Don't damage my clothes!" In the next moment, Sherry moved like a phantom, darting past the soldiers. Afterward, before these soldiers could even scream, they slowly collapsed on the ground.

"Are you the commander?" Sherry stared curiously at the officer in front of her.

"Do as you please, kill or torture me!" the commander declared, chest out and head held high, showing a spirit of unyielding defiance.

"Hmm... capturing you should fetch another twenty thousand dollars!" Sherry pondered, touching her chin.

"What twenty thousand? What are you talking about?" The commander's monthly salary was more than twenty thousand, yet Sherry intended to exchange him for a mere twenty thousand dollars? And for money, she single-handedly annihilated his sixty thousand elite soldiers?

"I'll offer you a billion dollars if you join us!" the commander said, a flash of inspiration striking him.
