Chapter 1 Heartbroken

A room filled with tender intimacy.

Quan Jiu panted, gazing at the man above her. Glistening sweat beaded on his nose, adding a touch of approachable allure to his extremely aggressive, beautiful face.

She tilted her head slightly and kissed him. Only at times like this did this man feel real.

Chu Rong felt the warm touch on his nose, his lower abdomen tightening. His eyes deepened further, yet he still exerted great restraint, his brows furrowed slightly as he stroked Quan Jiu’s skin, as soft and smooth as silk.

“Meng Ran’s blood this month, I’ll have to trouble you.”

His voice was as gentle as an angel’s, as if she were the most precious thing in the world.

Quan Jiu’s passion instantly chilled her from head to toe. She shivered with cold.

This man, as always, used the gentlest tone to utter the most cruel words.

“Cold?” Chu Rong rolled off her, his strong arms encircling Quan Jiu’s slender waist, which fit perfectly in his grasp.

Quan Jiu turned her back to him. Her heart ached so much that even tears felt like a luxury.

So, not everything could be achieved through effort. Two years. She thought that if she just did well enough, he would fall in love with her. But in the end, she was still just a blood bank for him to raise for Jiang Meng Ran.

“Ring ring~” Chu Rong’s phone rang.

Quan Jiu knew it was Dr. Guan arriving. She quietly sat up, washed herself first, and then sat on the living room sofa in her pajamas.

Not long after, Chu Rong also came out after washing up. His tall figure looked fashionable even in a bathrobe.

“Guan Shi will be here soon, go change your clothes,” Chu Rong reminded her.

“I’ll be sleeping anyway after the blood is drawn.” Her tone was unusually stiff.

After moments of tenderness, she had to donate blood to her husband’s lover. She felt increasingly unable to control her grievances and anger lately.

Chu Rong’s brows furrowed slightly.

Quan Jiu saw it clearly. She told herself to endure; even a clay figurine should have some temper.

But verbally, facing her beloved’s displeasure, she still couldn’t help but obediently comply: “Okay.”

When Quan Jiu came out after changing, Guan Shi had already prepared the needle and blood bag for drawing blood. Quan Jiu rolled up her sleeves and sat down. As she looked at the needle in Guan Shi’s hand, she suddenly felt dizzy.

“Don’t look,” Guan Shi instinctively reached out and turned her head with his long, slender fingers.

Chu Rong’s brows tightened, his eyes narrowing slightly, his gaze locking onto Guan Shi like a knife.

Quan Jiu looked at him, and the last bit of innocence and hope in her eyes vanished without a trace. He would always favor Jiang Meng Ran. Even when drawing blood, his gaze was fixed on the bag of blood meant for Jiang Meng Ran.

Quan Jiu’s heart ached as if a piece had been gouged out. She stood up numbly, but a strong wave of dizziness washed over her. Fortunately, before she could fall, a pair of strong arms steadied her shoulders.

Quan Jiu smiled gently, “Thank you.”

Guan Shi helped her sit down, handed her a packet of nutritional supplements, and urged her to eat well.

Chu Rong saw this and, abandoning his usual gentleness, his face turned ashen. He strode over, scooped Quan Jiu up in his arms, and carried her into the bedroom.

Quan Jiu was somewhat flustered, but more so, she felt flattered. She had only peeked through the crack of the door to see Chu Rong holding Jiang Meng Ran like this.

Chu Rong placed her on the bed, then reached to unfasten her bra.

Quan Jiu’s face flushed, and she shrank back, “I can do it myself.”

But Chu Rong didn’t listen. He even unfastened her bra somewhat roughly, then helped her lie down. Finally, he gently kissed her forehead before turning to leave.

That kiss was like a feather, lightly brushing across the spring of Quan Jiu’s heart. She inexplicably softened her voice, “A Rong, tonight, can you not leave? I feel a bit dizzy and unwell, can you stay with me?”

A hint of displeasure appeared on Chu Rong’s usually gentle face. “Don’t be unreasonable. She needs a blood transfusion tonight, and I need to be there to watch over her to feel at ease.”

Quan Jiu’s heart trembled violently, and her fists clenched involuntarily. With a hint of defiance and unwillingness, she said, “It’s just a blood transfusion, nurses and doctors will be watching…”

But before she could finish, Chu Rong interrupted with an even more displeased tone, “What’s wrong with you tonight? She’s a patient, and you shouldn’t be competing with a patient for attention. It annoys me.”

Quan Jiu’s mind went blank. After a moment, she suppressed her grievances and gently pleaded, “ I don’t ask for anything else at other times, but today, can it be different?”

Perhaps seeing her eyes so soft and pitiful, Chu Rong’s heart tightened, and he gently stroked her head.

“Get some sleep early. I’ll come back as soon as Meng Ran finishes her transfusion.”

Quan Jiu couldn’t stop Chu Rong from leaving. She watched the back of her husband rushing to his lover and said sadly, “A Rong, you know I’ve loved you for ten years, right?”

Chu Rong’s back stiffened.

“Since I married you, I will be responsible for you for life.”

Chu Rong left these words behind and strode away.

Quan Jiu got up, as if seeking out a needle to prick herself. She went to the bedroom door and listened to the conversation outside.

“She is very weak, aren’t you staying to accompany her?” Guan Shi questioned.

Chu Rong said coldly, “You are the Chu family’s doctor. You only need to do your job properly.” Don’t meddle in other matters, and don’t care about other people.

Guan Shi sighed deeply and left with his medical kit.

Soon, the living room fell silent.

Quan Jiu walked like a zombie to the dressing table, opened a box, and took out an exquisite sandalwood box. Inside lay a set of men’s clothing, embroidered with lifelike patterns, which she had spent a year hand-stitching.

Today was her birthday. She had made this outfit as a gift for Chu Rong.

Quan Jiu held the clothes with a mournful expression. On her twelfth birthday, she fell in love at first sight with the eldest young master of the Chu family. As of today, it had been exactly ten years. Eight years of unrequited love, two years of marriage. It was enough; she was tired.

Guan Shi and Chu Rong went downstairs. Chu Rong then revealed his undisguised brutality, saying coldly, “Dr. Guan, Quan Jiu is my wife. I hope you will be more mindful of your boundaries in the future, so I don’t mistakenly think you have improper thoughts about a married woman.”

Guan Shi felt a blockage in his chest that he couldn’t expel. He turned his head, unable to hide his anger.

“So the high and mighty Young Master Chu still remembers that she is your wife. I thought you only had eyes for your lover and not your wife. However, your wife faints at the sight of needles and blood. She just donated 400 milliliters of blood to your lover, and now you’re going to see your lover. Calling you hypocritical isn’t too much, is it?”

Chu Rong’s eyes darkened. “How could she faint at the sight of needles and blood?”

Guan Shi gave a sarcastic laugh. “She didn’t faint before. Perhaps donating blood to her husband’s lover every month has left her with psychological trauma. She’s a medical student, yet she faints at the sight of needles and blood. Her future is ruined.”

Chu Rong ignored his sarcasm, his eyes narrowing dangerously. “Regardless, she is my wife. Her affairs are not for an outsider like you to manage.”

Guan Shi shrugged indifferently. “Perhaps I still have some conscience.” He then got into the car, but as he closed the door, he said, “Oh, by the way, my contract with your Chu family expires in a month. Don’t bother me about renewal.”

Chu Rong’s expression turned cold. “You are a doctor, please keep your personal and professional lives separate. Meng Ran’s illness…”

“It has nothing to do with me. Although I am a doctor, I also have the right to choose my patients.” Guan Shi slammed the door shut and drove away.

Chu Rong’s face grew darker. His assistant Wang Xiao dared not speak and quickly went to get the car.

Chu Rong got into the car and then said, “Call Chen Ma and ask her to bring some blood-replenishing meals for the young madam.”

Wang Xiao hesitated for a moment and tentatively asked, “Now?” It was almost eleven o’clock.

Chu Rong glanced at him coldly. Wang Xiao’s heart skipped a beat in fear, and he quickly called Chen Ma, asking her to immediately prepare some blood-replenishing food for the young madam.
